From this ask meme- 5 AU Headcanons
Here goes, Seaquest/ Sealab 2020 (or 2021) style:
1. Anderson is a talking dolphin. Nobody likes him. Pretty much everyone has peed in his enclosure at least once.
2. Lestrade signed onto the project after his divorce (change of pace), thinking he’d probably just end up as mid-level security, pushing papers and approving leave requests. He ended up as Captain of Sherrinford Seabase, though he has no idea how.
4. (Who isn’t actually based at Sherrinford, he doesn’t like legwork. But sometimes he has to visit for official reasons. And he really likes how he looks in a wetsuit)
5. He sent Eurus there to give her an outlet (deep sea life is weird enough, it’s an AU) and to keep her away from people (and if one or two meet mysterious and gruesome ends, oh well, there are always more grad students salivating for that unpaid internship). She just haunts whatever lab she feels like, running experiments literally no one understands and writing unintelligible papers in esoteric jargon from completely different fields. Somehow her work has led to two discoveries in astrophysics and a cure for the common cold.
6. Contrast with her brother Sherlock, whose experiments everyone understands because they did them in their first year of undergrad. He’s really not so bright, but they put up with him because he can find anything they’ve lost (even like pens and socks, it’s uncanny and kind of creepy and how does he know what deodorant everyone wears anyway?). And if they do complain, they end up being reassigned because he’s got some kind of high-up government connection.
6. Sally was Anderson’s trainer, but then there was a Shape of Water issue and she left (like, nobody really knows if she was fired or she quit, but it’s 100% a fact that she fucked the talking dolphin) (she didn’t actually even leave she just transferred to a different part of the base and got a haircut and seriously Dimmock, you guys just had lunch last week)
7. Mary and John are medical staff and they’re both really boring, even though they’ve both killed a lot of people.
8. Jim keeps the whole base running from his tiny little sub-basement IT office, the pulsing heart of the place, the spider in the center of the web. Nothing happens without his knowing; he dabbles in blackmail but he mostly just likes to sow discord and capitalize on any opportunity it might create. He also has a guy on the outside and can get anything anybody wants and smuggles it in in big boxes marked “copy paper” (even though literally everything is done electronically, no one questions it)
9. They all wear orange jumpsuits.
10. Molly runs the vertebrate lab and her job is dissecting and preserving specimens dredged up out of the trenches. She gets along with just about everyone and is always invited to parties. It takes John like a year to remember her name, even though his wife goes to yoga class with her.
11. No one’s sure what Wiggins does, but it must be important because he’s always doing something with beakers and chemicals. (He got in the wrong line, he thought he was queueing for the bathroom and ended up on the ship that took him to the seabase. He’s been there three years)
12. The seabase was built by some eccentric billionaire philanthropist who brings terminal kids for visits. Sometimes they go missing. No one says anything because they need the funding.
