Marcel is a Mikaelson. He does not have to call himself a Mikaelson as he is fully within his rights to denounce the very toxic family but he is one.

I hate the way the show treated him, I hate the way the characters treated him, and I hate that he is involved with Rebekah. I hate the way he and Hope are only kinda sorta siblings.

1. The show:

So we know Julie Plec is very much a white liberal. We know this. We know she has sexism issues, we know she has racism issues (black women will save us all, really Julie????). I don't know which of her multitude of biases made her (and the rest of the writers) think that the way they wrote Marcel and the Mikaelson's relationships with him, was normal (or like normal in the context of the show). But boy howdy.

The plantation house. We're just going to have the Mikaelsons move into the house where Marcel was owned as a slave????? That's what we're gonna do?????? And where his abusive biological father lived and y'know, abused him. Fucking what the fuck?? I feel like this just epitomises the way the show treats Marcel.

2. The characters:

The family never treats him as part of the family unless they want something from him.

They did not raise him as a son and it is weird and terrible and he was a child!!!!! Why did you adopt him if you didn't want a child???

Why is Klaus so scared of having Hope if he's already had a child?

Why does Klaus treat Marcel the exact same way Mikael treated him just because they're not blood related?? (if they actually explored this it could have been interesting but no they just only half treat Marcel as a Mikaelson).

YOU'RE TELLING ME THEY DIDN'T CHECK?? THEY DIDN'T CHECK HE WAS DEAD????? Not once in the 80+ years did Klaus or Elijah go back to New Orleans or even send someone to fucking check that his SON was really dead??? Didn't think to do that???? No???

3. Rebekah:

Oh my god what do I even say about Rebekah?

They could have at least made her be daggered for the time when he was a child and only meet him when he was already an adult and a vampire because that way she's only technically his aunt and not a full fucking adult who saw him grow up!!!!!!!!

Hope:

Idk man, they were siblings. Let them be siblings. The whole thing in Legacies where the Mikaelsons just kind of left Hope alone? Weird. Bonkers. Batshit. I know it's because they couldn't get the actors but maybe think about that before writing your fucking show my guy.

Or in TO where Hope was just left alone and Klaus was not there as a dad for like 5(?) years.

Hayley was the only good parent on The Originals or Legacies canon, fight me.

(side note, you're telling me Caroline would leave Alaric, Alaric, an alcoholic, vampire-hating, weirdo (Caroline and Alaric being romantically involved briefly WAS WEIRD GUYS, WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK HE USED TO BE HER FUCKING TEACHER) in charge of the school for supernatural children??

You're telling me she left him in charge of parenting Lizzie and Josie?? Yeah okay sure.

And look how well that turned out. Locking teenagers in goddamn prison worlds, excellent headmastering there Alaric well done. And just swell parenting of the twins. Favouring Hope over them at all times and letting them bully each other weirdly for years and allowing your mentally ill children to just get more mentally ill from your parenting. Great moves. Very good.

Yeah okay my whole rant is over I think.

TL;DR: Marcel deserved better.

(and so did the kids on Legacies.)

Also PSA, the only reason I have so many feelings about this is because I like the freaking shows okay? I like the characters (except Alaric and Damon and the ones we're supposed to dislike like Mikael and Esther).

Lost in the Humanity Pt. 2

PAIRING: Klaus Mikaelson x Reader

WORD COUNT: 1k+

AUTHOR'S NOTE: Second part anyone?? Enjoy! Italics are journal entries.

You woke the next morning with a dull ache in your head. You groaned sitting up in the bed covered by thick comforters. Which wasn’t the comforters you had in your apartment.

When you were able to pry your eyes open, the sun shown through the curtains just a bit and even then it was painful to your eyes you had to shield them. You stood from the bed, taking in your surroundings. The room was beautiful with wood floors red wallpaper that gave the room an old timey feel. There were doors that led out onto a balcony but currently covered so no sunlight shined through. This was certainly not your place.

You began to panic as you thought back to last nights events. That man, his eyes and his teeth... Nik was there, he... he killed those other two guys and then... the metallic taste of blood in your mouth and then the darkness. You wanted out, you needed to get back where you were safe and secure in your own home. You reached for the door knob but jumped back as the door opened.

It was Klaus. He had a woman with him but she seemed... out of it.

“Nik... what the hell is going on here, last night? Those... those things?”

“Calm down, love. I will explain everything in due time.”

“No I don’t want you to explain everything in due time! I want answers. Now!” You screamed, your heart racing, panic beginning to settle in permanently.

Klaus took the few strides he needed to be standing in front of you. His arms came to rest on your shoulders, he was gentle and he could tell you weren’t dealing with this as well as you could have.

“Listen to me, Y/N, last night you were killed.” The bluntness of his answer had you frozen to the spot, staring at him as your heart sank. But wait, if you were dead then how are you standing there right now?

“But you were fed Marcel’s blood which means you are now in transition.”

“Transition? Transition for what?”

Klaus hesitates, releasing your shoulders, “You are turning into a vampire, love.”

You took in the information, standing exactly where you were. Until you burst out laughing so much that your stomach started to hurt.

“There’s no such thing as vampires, Nik.” You managed before you stopped laughing as much.

“Oh trust me, there are things in this world you would believe to be fairytales.”

That’s when you noticed your mouth was dry and you began to become hungry.

“Well as much as I’d like to believe you I need to get home and eat something. I must be going crazy after last night, moving to a new town, starting a new life, this is all just stress.” You started to walk out but something stopped you as you passed the strange girl Klaus walked in with.

You sniffed, smelling something so delicious it made your mouth water. You slowly moved closer to her, gently brushing her hair behind her shoulder which caused her to tilt her neck.

There, right in front of you was a bite mark, dripping blood down her neck. And what got to you was how much you wanted to lick it up and drink it.

Your entire body shook, restraining front just diving in, “What is happening to me?” You didn’t even look at Klaus, eyes solely focused on the blood dripping in front of you.

Klaus stepper forward, “I told you darling, you’re in transition and the only way to complete it is if you feed off the blood of a human.” Klaus came up behind you, resting his hands on your hips, whispering in your ear, “It’ll all feel better after you feed.”

A shiver went up your spine, you wanted it. You wanted the blood, you wanted to rip into her skin and feed until there was nothing left. It scared you but it also excited you. Klaus moved to the other side of the girl, brushing her hair away just as you did before. His eyes changed, Golden and black where the whites should have been with the same veins going to his eyes as Marcel’s did last night. You swallowed, watching as he lowered his fangs to her neck before digging in. And then you gave in, feeling the change complete as you drank the blood from your first victim.

It was riveting. Your eyes rolled to the back of your head, the taste of her blood bring you into an ecstasy. And the intimacy of sharing it with Klaus, it only made you drink more. You felt Klaus release her, looking over as you still fed.

“That’s enough, Y/N.” He said. But you kept going. It felt too good to stop. In fact, you didn’t know if you physically could even if you wanted to.

Klaus came to you, putting a hand on your shoulder. You could feel the power you gained from drinking the blood. And you reveled in it.

“Y/N, that’s enough, you’ll kill her.” He had to yank you away to get you to stop. The girl dropped to the floor, unconscious, or maybe dead, you don’t know how much you took from her. You growled at Klaus for ripping you away. He pushed you back when you started after her again. He yelled and you came to. Klaus looked at you, there was something different about you. You could tell he looked at you differently. You looked in the mirror of the vanity sitting against the wall in front of the bed. Blood dropped from your chin onto your clothes and the floor. But when you looked at your eyes, that’s when you began to feel the guilt.

Your eyes weren’t like Klaus’ or even like Marcel’s, no. You’re eyes were different, they were being like everyone else’s but they glowed a baby blue color.

Klaus didn’t know what you were. He began to think you were a ripper, but after seeing your eyes, he didn’t know what to think.

And you’re telling me he didn’t baby the hell out of Young!Marcellus?

A lot of the flashbacks we have of Marcel are sad ones, but we know there are good moments. Like Klaus telling him to close his eyes and sing when he was frightened. And there are so many moments they tell us but they don’t show.

It wasn’t all bad. Klaus wasn’t a perfect father. But I think his biggest flaw as one was his possessiveness over Marcel. He didn’t know how to let go.

Why couldn’t this show have been about he actual family?

Like in the pilot when Marcel was so happy to see him??
