I’m super late but I turned 26 this year. 25 was supposed to be this magical year of maturity & adulting but instead it was filled with depression, heartbreak, anxiety, envy, desperation, basically anything that would involve feeling like the lowest pit of despair. Here’s to 2023 not destroying me again .

NEW MAP: North America 1517: Spanish–Mesoamerican contact (04 Mar 1517) https://buff.ly/32IRwU5 Despite almost 25 years of Spanish colonial expansion in the Caribbean, open contact between the Spanish and the civilizations of Mesoamerica did not occur until 1517, when an expedition under Francisco Hernández de Córdoba encountered Maya boats off the coast of the Yucatán Peninsula. Clashes broke out almost immediately and, after a difficult and violent month of exploration, Hernández limped back to Cuba, dying soon after. South America 133 years ago today: Counani Dispute (04 Mar 1887) https://buff.ly/32MjE8A When gold was discovered in the Guianas in the early 1880s, thousands of prospectors flocked to the region. Taking advantage of Brazil's continued use of slaves, the French provoked a revolt in the disputed area bordering French Guiana, promoting the short-lived Republic of Counani.
