✦ What if: tamed Bakunawa but smol…
"The timeline for Bennett's parents dying in the Mare Jivari doesn't match up."
The Mare Jivari doesn't exist on the timeline. Venti blew it off. It exists in every moment simultaneously, making it non-linear.
On the side of the timeline, Bennett's parents and the adventurers that found Bennett entered the Mare Jivari at different times. But on the Mare Jivari side, these entries happened simultaneously.
It doesn't matter how long ago Bennett's parents died relative to his age, because his age is determined by the point in time the adventurers that found him entered and exited the Mare Jivari, not when his parents did. If a different set of adventurers from a different point in time had found him, he would be a different age.
That's why it's possible that Bennett's parents died a long time ago (linearly speaking) but he's still a teenager. The real question is how the adventurers that found him got into the Mare Jivari, given that by the time they made their entry Venti would have already blown it away and made it 'disappear'.
we will see each other again, right....?
Where the wind dies, and legends fall...
It is said that the vast tract of land to the west of Tenochtzitoc was once the Mare Jivari, a place of sorrow born from the Abyssal invasion. As time washed away the past, the mysteriously vanished Mare Jivari has seemingly reemerged, but what is revealed may only be the tip of the iceberg...
What the fuck, hoyo?
well, I got 1 like, so here's a quick collection of Bennett lore/theories I threw together in a few hours! this is a little long but I'm not putting it under a readmore I want y'all to look at it :)
★ also, this is something I forgot to mention in the slides, but I think myself and many others were assuming that we would get a character more directly linked to the Mare Jivari once we reached Natlan, so the fact that we didn't and Bennett is still the most relevant character to the Mare Jivari's story is kinda insane! he's literally our only playable link to that area and now that we're finally going there... it's super exciting!!
thank you sm if you read all the way to the bottom! <3 I hope if you're a casual genshin player, this helps you understand why some of us are going so feral over a new skin and a single screenshot from the trailer!!
Venti the moment he steps into mare jivari
My theory about Enjous true identity because our fav NPC finally got some more lore
At the end of the new world quest ("The Last Survivor of Tenochtzitoc") we go into the Mare Jivari together with Enjou and Citlali and (at least temporarily) defeat the Bakunawa.
At the end we question Enjou about who he really is and he doesn't really give us a definite answer to it, however he tells us that he has witnessed (or at least knows of) a lot of historical events in Teyvat, such as what happened in Remuria, Enkanomiya, etc., however, he himself does not remember where his homeland is or if he even has one, saying that while he serves the Abyss Order, they are not his home, and decides to go and look for his homeland within the Mare Jivari and disappears.
Before he leaves, he gifts us a flower, and says: "This is the flower that blooms in flames. Until the day that the fires turn me into ashes, you shall see the glowing embers of this flower shining through the dark smoke.", which is the exact same thing the "Lava walker", also called "the Sage who wandered the Mare Jivari". The flower Enjou gives us also turns into an artifact piece of the Lava walker Set in the inventory.
The quest also rewards you with a new Avatar, on which we can see Enjou and the flower he gave us. The Avatar is called "The scholar who crossed the Mare Jivari".
And while "Sage" and "Scholar" technically don't mean the exact same thing, they are often used to describe the same person regardless.
The set also mentions that the "Lava walker" wasn't hurt by the flames of the Mare Jivari around him, which would also fit for Enjou, since he is a pyro Abyss lector (I also find it interesting how we did not see him in his lector form once during the entire quest).
So was the "Sage" (aka the "Lava walker") from the Lava walker Set description was Enjou all along? And will we ever get an Update on wether Enjou has found his homeland or will we never get to see him again (although that would be a little sad given that he promised to tell us his real name if we ever see each other again)?
