Ambiguous Villain Book Rec
Ambiguous villain: A villain that has a sound reason for their actions, and believes they are doing good/an extremely morally grey villain.

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor- Mina is a wonderful villain and I truly adore her and I would have loved more from her point of view in the duology.
The Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss- I think Kvothe’s story is like a villain origin story. Pay close attention to his actions in WMF, he’s not a great guy, but he always has reasons for his actions.
Elementals by Brigid Kemmerer- So this series follows four brothers and Micheal, the oldest brother, is not a villain but occasionally an antagonist as he is the oldest and voice of reason. And there is another major character who has some great moral grey stuff going on. And the whole premise of the book is about these people hiding from authorities who want to kill them as they believe they have too much power.
The Poppy War by RF Kuang- Uh, yeah. This should definitely be on this list.
The Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo- I can’t say much without spoilers, but some of these stories most certainly fall into this category.
Hushed by Kelley York- Archer, the mc, has very good reasons for his actions but the other bad guys don’t have any excuse for their terrible behavior.
Warcross by Marie Lu- I can’t say much without spoilers but this totally falls into this category.
