no one talks about it but in mario odyessy mario is implied to have been a baby bird from a stork species from cloud kingdom that engages in cuckoo bird like behavior and replaces human children with bird children
the devs 100% considered this if you look at the brochures by the way the cloud kingdom is implied to have been near the lost kingdom and cascade kingdom both of which are the two yoshi's island location candidates
and from there the lost/cascade kingdom are near Metro and mushroom kingdoms respectively which are the two candidates for where mario got delivered by yoshi so they 100% were fucking thinking about this shit
what the fuck is going on
this explains mario's affinity for spicy flowers (birds are immune to caspacin) and his hollow bones allow him to jump and he has a beak-like nosebone on his skeleton
I have a feeling that for most of the movie Toad is just gonna be beefing with Yoshi, and then at the very end, Yoshi saves him or something and then Toad and Yoshi become best friends
I need to get this off my chest and I'm terrified of the Mario subreddit so I'll post here.
I've seen a lot of speculation about the new Donkey Kong game. If Donkey Kong's grandfather Cranky is the original DK who kidnapped Pauline, how is he old in Bananza while Pauline is a kid?
It's because Nintendo is rebooting the Mario world and its timeline.
Before this game, there was always a hiccup in the Mario timeline. How can Pauline and Mario be so young with DK when they were already adults with Cranky. Game Theory pointed out that it would be at least 16 years later if DK was Cranky's grandson. They came up with the idea that the Mario in the DK arcade games was actually his father and that Pauline was actually the Mario Bros' mother. A great theory at the time, but it was pretty much debunked in Odyssey.
What I think happened is that Nintendo just wasn't thinking when they made the main DK into DK III and they're retconning it now. That's why in the Mario Bros movie he's Cranky's son and that's why DK was posing in front of DK Jr. in Mario Kart World.
But more than that, the reason I think that they're rebooting the Mario World is that they specifically chose to include kid Pauline. They could have included adult Pauline. Then it reasonably could have fit in with the Odyssey timeline, that Pauline and DK reconciled their differences as adults and went on an adventure together. But they chose kid Pauline who entirely contradicts the timeline. It seems to me like Nintendo is trying to redefine their origins and dynamic.
If they were rebooting the franchise, it would make sense that they chose to start with Pauline and Donkey Kong. They were there at the beginning, so changing their dynamic and origin sets the tone for the entire reboot.
It explains the recent official changes to the characters' renders.
I think that Mario Kart World is the introduction to the new timeline and Donkey Kong Bananza is the official canon start of it. Mario Bros Wonder was kind of a sneak peek/pilot for the new timeline to show off the new character designs. I'm sure that after Bananza we'll get new origins for most if not all of the characters.
Anyone reading should not use the information here to harass either Game Theory or the other person mentioned in it.
So this is a phrase I've heard said a lot the videos made by Game Theory pre and post retirement of the creator, whenever someone would cover a video of theirs for getting stuff wrong.
Whether is be the Lorax, Get Out, Arcane, Sonic, Minecraft, Megaman, Undertale, FNAF, or Metroid.
Something to the effect of "I don't know much about Game Theory and think they did poor research, and are unintentionally spreading misinformation." Or "I like their other videos and think they do great on them, but this video they did bad in."
But with a full view of things this trend is a not a bug but a feature.
If you read my previous post on this subject I have talked about this very problem and how it is very intentional.
Where he outright said as advice to a new writer that he brushes aside contradicting information to create a narrative, while purposefully leaving out key bits of information with Mario Is Mental as the example.
However, all I had to go off of was some old screenshots and the written quote without video evidence........
Until now
So I basically have gotten a hold of the original video that was basically lost media at this point.
So I clipped together 3 clips from this video titled How I almost worked for Game Theory, with a later addition of "edit now I do. The first one is for context, the second one is for evidence that the creator did work for MatPat eventually, and the third one is the infamous clip in question.

Ok so legit question but what do you guys think about the theory of Pauline being Mario and Luigi's sister cause imma be real I fw it so hard.
Basically it says that Jumpman and Pauline from the og DK are their parents and the modern Pauline is actually Pauline JR. And it's like, I like that a lot actually it's really interesting. Idk if that's what they intended at all but I really like it.
I have. So many thoughts. So many AUs. So much swirling in my brain. I've already infodumped on one theory/au to my boyfriend ((thanks, Eggy, ilysm!!)) BUT I am now gonna throw it out here.
Gonna be long so I'll put a cut teehee
Okay so like. In Super Mario Odyssey, there's the Ruined Kingdom, yeah? And like. The whole point for the area is that it's full of echoes of the past, no definitive answers, it's essentially a world, place, nation lost to time completely. And the location on the map is near the Darklands, which is feasibly bear Evershade Valley. I am going somewhere with this, hold on.
Now the Ruined Kingdom is called that because it's name is lost completely and totally to history. The only thing left is the crumbling architecture and the mild vestiges of a land unknown, overrun in game by enemies, with the dragon guarding over the area. There's differing weather phenomena, metal rods, storm motifs all over the area, either newer to the land or leftover from the time Before whatever happened.... happened.
Now I'm gonna pivot here, the Ruined Kingdom is near the Darklands, it's got the storm motifs, and keep all of that in mind.
In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, we get introduced to the Beanbean Kingdom. The events in game are generally unrelated to this, barring one BIG thing that comes with repeated references in subsequent games for Mario and Luigi both - Firebrand and Thunderhand.
There are two temples, relatively abandoned and no longer worshipped at or in, heralded by two deities, one of Fire, the other of Thunder. Mario and Luigi both go individually to one temple each where they wind up receiving the abilities from the deities there to wield fire and lightning.
These abilities and associations continue on in more games as well.
Mario is associated with fire and flames and heat and warmth and sunlight and energy and ambition and charisma.
Luigi is associated with lightning and thunder and static and chill and darkness and night and lethargy and unconventional bravery in the same ways.
They are complementary forces, cohesive yet different, opposite and balanced, the sun and moon effectively in mortal forms. And celestial motifs with them aren't uncommon in games at all, frankly.
Now let's shift again back to the map.
The darklands is associated with volcanoes, Koopas and Goombas and so on and so forth. It's heat. It's burning. It's ruled by Bowser, with his lava-association, his fire breathing abilities, his spikes and tail and horns and draconian features. The Darklands is fire and brimstone and is near to the Ruined Kingdom. Mario's primary adversary rules and resides there.
Evershade Valley is in close proximity to the Darklands. It is associated with spirits, with darkness, with trickery and night, and it is ruled over by King Boo, a powerful Boo with a magical crown and it has its own lunar motifs and shadowed descriptors. Boos are ghosts, and all ghosts can be fought and defeated by an electronic weapon. Luigi even has a higher impact ability with MORE electricity on hand to fuel the Poltergust. ((Also let it be said that in paranormal research, electricity is often considered a source of power to supernatural beings. Electricity, limestone, running water - and all those could easily be found in the Mansions. Interesting...))
These two areas are ruled by the two main antagonists to the two primary protagonists who have complimentary and equal associations as well as crumb like connections to a forgotten kingdom.
Mario and Luigi btw are both built differently to most, depending on game perspectives. They're human, most likely. They may have smth like achondroplasia ((and I do love this take honestly)), or maybe they're descendants of a different inhuman species and this accounts for their biology. ((Add in that on the wiki, their race isn't homosapien which may be a silly little joke OR could be something else entirely, idk and idc)).
Regardless I really really love the idea that Mario and Luigi are the descendants of the people who lived in the Ruined Kibgdom once upon a time, maybe even from the royal family there itself.
If something went horribly wrong and the kingdom was in danger, if there was a threat they could not stop or a foe they could not face, escaping with their lives would the the best and safest bet.
And with warp pipes everywhere... well. It isn't too much of a stretch for them to scatter, is it?
Or even for some warp pipes to lead to an entirely new world with different nations, nationals, and a certain Italian Heritage....
Anyway yeah. I think Mario and Luigi are from the Ruined Kingdom, I think there's far more to what's left there and it would be so cool to have another game with that setting bc I am OBSESSED
So, a little side tangent away from my other posts, which is an explanation on why I don't like Game Theory.
This post I am making is going to serve as an explanation on why, and a place I can direct people towards to easily explain it.
Side note anyone reading should not use the information here to harass either Game Theory or the other person mentioned in it.
That aside, awhile back a video was uploaded by a channel I follow named Inside A Mind titled How I almost worked for Game Theory, with a later addition of "edit now I do. The video goes over how he was approached to join Game Theory, and he talks about a Gravity Falls hypothesis video he came up with which now exists on Film Theory.
The video is titled Film Theory: Gravity Falls ISN'T OVER! (Bill Cipher LIVES!).
Why am I bringing this up?
Well in the video Inside A Mind talks about some email exchanges he had with MatPat, these exchanges contain information that shows blatant dishonesty in his theory crafting. In this conversation MatPat talks about brushing aside contradictory information that basically debunks the theory that is being crafted.
He specifically used the Mario Is Mental videos as his example stating that in the Mario Power Tennis shoe grinding scene was focused on on for a reason, and how he purposefully left out information about anything good Mario has ever done.
"You control the story. Don't feel like you have to talk about everything. Focus on the strongest evidence and brush aside some of the weaker moments or parts THAT MAY CONTRADICT WHAT IT IS YOU'RE trying to prove. For good example, look at the MARIO IS MENTAL series of videos--- I really focus in on that shoe gridning moment and AVOID ALL MENTION OF THE GOOD THINGS MARIO HAS DONE THROUGHOUT THE SERIES, In that way, I'm able to direct the viewer focus to what is going to be most compelling for the overall story I'm trying to tell."
MatPat has made various theory videos over the years that have spread blatant misinformation about games such as Mario, and this shows that a lot of it is straight up intentional.
This has majorly messed up people's perception of the lore of games like Mario. It even comes off as irritating when he talks about how loves the lore of games, when he won't even properly represent it.
It's not just the Mario series he does this with. He has done this with Sonic, Pokemon, How To Train Your Dragon, Megaman, Undertale, Minecraft, Star Wars, and yes FNAF as well.
It's also annoying how people will believe his claims with no questions, and when challenged they say "it's just a theory."
MatPat himself has tried to also use the "it's just a theory" defense and claim it's all just fun speculation.
However, this defense is invalidated because 1, he has already stated that he ignores lore to create his theories, and 2 how he gets so upset over criticism of his theories.
Prime examples include criticism over his Sans is Ness theory, his recent Game Theory: Why You HATE My Theories (FNAF) video, and most notably his Mario is Mental theory. He basically tries to have his cake and eat it too.
See the following post.
It is also just straight up obvious on how he ignores actual game lore, countless people have pointed it out before. Heck several of my lore posts I've made either outright debunk MatPat's claims, if not throw major monkey wrenches into his theories.
Edit, I also have to note in his earliest videos MatPat actually did partake in the process of change his hypotheses(what his theories actually are), when presented with evidence that contradicted it. He didn't do it often but he still did it.
I also think some of his theories might hold water, the Banana War to be precise.
Anyways I hope this serves as an explanation on why I don't like Game Theory videos.
