Rosalina Is Not Peach & Luigi's Daughter
So there a hypothesis that claims Peach and Luigi are Rosalina's parents. This is a hypothesis that has plagued the Mario community for a long time in which many people believe it.
So I'm going to be address this "theory," and show why it holds absolutely no water. As well address some of the other things people believe because of this "theory." Before I begin, it is possible Peach and Rosalina are related which I have addressed in a previous post. But this doesn't mean that this "theory" in particular has any accuracy just because they could be related.
So the original creator of this "theory" claims that Rosalina's mother is Peach using specifically her hair and earring. But this ignores her hair matches up more with Rosalina's than Peach's. But something to also note that will be relevant for later is Rosalina was originally going to be related to Peach, thus some design similarities still remain. But this primarily overlooks the fact if the intention was for us to think Rosalina's mother was Peach, they would have given Peach her iconic pink dress. That they wouldn't have simply used earrings of all things to imply this.
The original creator of this "theory" also brings up Rosalina's storybook potentially implying she is from the Mushroom Kingdom. Which while possible since she is a Princess and from the Mushroom Planet. This doesn't mean she is Peach's daughter, and could be related to the Grasslands King. Or as mentioned in the previous post an ancestor of Peach.
They go on to try to force how genetics work in the logic of the real world real world into the Mario World. As I have stated many times before, you can't force real world logic into worlds like Mario's. This is because their world's rules doesn't abide by our world's logic. Overall this point is completely moot.
A side note is they claim Peach is ambidextrous, and uses footage from Mario Golf to show she is. But many have pointed out in the Mario Golf games you can change the handedness. By extension Peach always use her right hand in official art. Anyways back to topic.
The original creator of this "theory" misunderstands the fact that everyone was place on the Mushroom Planet at the end, and this was not related to the universe reset. They go on to claim the Mario timeline is like the Zelda timeline. Which is just straight up wrong since that is not how the Mario timeline works. Also, the fact there is only one Mario.
They claim the extra lives are the result of the universe reset. But this is just blatantly wrong as it has been well established extra lives are literal in the Mario World, and you go to the Underwhere when you run out.
They also claim this is why Mario and Bowser go karting together, aka that it's because of the universe resets changing things. Aside from expecting the universe reset to be the explanation for things that cannot be confirmed. It also ignores how Bowser acts in kart racing events, and Mario's kindness. Which kinda makes sense given the other hypothesis made by this person. Anyways…….
They claim this explains the on and off again appearance of the Koopalings. But this ignores this was never a thing with even Super Mario Sunshine Iggy Koopa makes a cameo.
They also claim this explains why Geno and Mallow don't show up. But it doesn't because there is nothing that claims the resets erase a character's existence. It of course ignores the real life reason why they don't show up. But as for where they are in-universe. Geno had returned to Star Road, and Mallow is somewhere off screen.
They claim Rosalina is from another cycle of the Galaxy, but that doesn't work at all. This is because again, the different versions of the characters aren't created like we see in the Zelda game by these resets. It's always the same characters. Also, Rosalina would be affected by the resets as well as she is not a goddess, and the stars have power over her.
They try to use the fact you can play Luigi after you unlock him, and encounter another Luigi who makes a joke about there being more than one Luigi. They try to claim this is a Luigi from another cycle, while ignoring the fact that the Luigi missions are not canon, and the obvious joke here. Also, Luigi is affected by the universe resets and another Luigi cannot be created by these resets. Just as there is only one Mario, there is only one Luigi.
They try to claim time Rosalina appears to have not aged because she travels around at light speed. This again tries to force real world logic onto the Mario World. Rosalina herself is simply very old, and has visited the Mushroom Planet every 100 years. The reason she hasn't aged is likely due to her constant exposure to Star Magic. While not 100%, it's the only explanation why she hasn't aged.
They claim Rosalina refers to Peach as Mario's special one not because she doesn't know her name, but because she doesn't want to call her mom by her name. But this ignores the fact she does this for other characters she doesn't know the name of such as Bowser. This is something many characters do in-universe when they don't know the name of a character such as Bowser's or Peach. So Rosalina would call Peach Mario's special one as she doesn't know her name. Also, if she was Peach's daughter wouldn't she idk recognize her mom, or even her father, and uncle in this scenario. She obviously doesn't because Peach is not her mother, Luigi is not her father, and Mario is not her uncle.
Now for the Luigi part of all this. They claim that the French version of Rosalina's storybook mentions her dad has a moustache. Which literally would prove nothing since so many characters including the SMB3 Kings have moustaches. But even outside of that the French version means nothing, and what matters far more is the original Japanese version. This is because localizers will add things in at times that are even in the original version. A prime example of this is the Mushroom King.
They bring up the fact that Rosalina's brother appears to wear a green hat in her storybook, as a means to claim she is Luigi's daughter. But ignores the fact and she appears to wear a red hat as well. But it also ignores how many characters in the Mario world will often have a red and green color scheme to twin, especially siblings. This includes hats as well. Examples include the likes of The Iron Adonis Twins, Red and Green, the Jellyfish Sisters, and the Starshade Bros.
They also claim Rosalina's telescope is Luigi's, which he inherited from the mansion from Luigi's Mansion. But this ignores this telescope is not Luigi's, as it disappeared at the end of the game with the mansion the Boos created.
They also try to claim the apparent lack of affection Peach has for Mario. In spite of the fact Mario and Peach are heavily implied to be a couple, as well as the fact that Peach in games like Paper Mario 64 definitely likes Mario By extension it ignores how Luigi and Daisy are heavily implied to be a couple.
In the end of all this, Peach and Luigi are not Rosalina's parents and this "theory" holds no water. Written by Eris the Lorekeeper
