One of about 11 million blackberry patches in Marion county, Oregon. Some of them were actually still in fruit, even though it is october. . . . There is a variety of blackberry named after Marion county, called a Marionberry. When i first heard of it, years ago, i thought it was named in honor of the politician Marion Barry, but as it turns out it was given that name when he was in college and not yet well known. . . Medicinally, all parts of the plant but especially the roots are astringent. A syrup made by decocting the roots and cooking down the berries (and straining the skins seeds and rootbits out) is a traditional remedy for diarrhea, especially in children and babies who are most susceptible to it. . . #rubus #marionberry #marionbarry #marioncounty #oregon
