My entry for the contest of @ihopesocomic I Hope So is a webcomic I'm reading right now and I really enjoying.
Some information about the character:
Mystery is a marozi (a cryptic feline species from Africa) or at least hopes he is. Since he doesn't know his parents he can't say for sure. He was found as a little cup by a pride of lions, alone in the dessert. On of the lionesses who just lost her cup decided to adopted him, thinking he is a lion leopard hybrid. Even though his adoptive mother tried her best to raise him like her own cup, Mystery felt never excepted by the pride. Especially the cups mocked him for being "not a real lion". One day Mystery met a traveller, who told him the legend of a mysterious groups of cats, nobody has ever seen, called marozi. Thrilled by the idea he could be one of them, Mystery leaves the pride to find the marozi and maybe his parents.
Mystery is non binary trans masculine und goes by he/they pronouns.
Mystery is kind and caring but gets anxious pretty easily. Since he never really had friends, he has a hard time bounding with other animals or trusting them. So he prefers being by himself. He is very creative and loves singing and writing songs.
Despite everything that happened, Mystery loves his adoptive mother and is very thankful for what she did for him. He promised her that he going to come back one day and tell her about his travells. (Please excuse my bad English, I'm not a native speaker)
The Marozi is a type of spotted cryptid lion. There is an absence of a mane in the males. These felids are usually reported in shady mountain type areas. It has been given the scientific name panthera leo maculatus.
Some of the original sightings of these creatures were spotted in the Kenyan mountains. Michael Trent, a farmer killed two or three of these lions in 1931. No live specimens have been captured to date.
Some have theorized marozis are a cross between a lion and a hyena. This is most likely not the case being that lions and hyenas have very different genetic makeup.
Another theory is spotted lions are lion/leopard hybrids. There have been such hybrids in captivity.

It is also notable for living in the mountains rather than on the savannah.
Reports of the marozi's existence have occurred since 1904, while two animals were killed by a Kenyan farmer in 1931. Various explanations for the marozi's existence have been offered, including them being a distinct race of lion, a naturally occurring leopard-lion hybrid, or simply lions that have retained their childhood spots.

Description: Is the “Spotted Lion” of the montane of Africa real? And if it is, is it a distinct species, a color mutation or a natural hybrid of lion and leopard? Marozi have been seen since 1904, but the first documented encounter by a European happened in 1931, when a Kenyan farmer shot and killed two pubescent lions in the Aberdare Mountains. The Nairobi Game Department took interest due to the anima’s unusual spotted hide, which was preserved and photographed. Two years later, explorer Kenneth Gandar-Dower launch an expedition into the mountains to find more specimens, though they only found three sets of tracks. In 1963, zoologist Charles Albert Walter Guggisberg declared that there’s no reliable evidence for the marozi, and therefore can not be classified as an animal species.
