Album Number Three Hundred Twenty Six. “Made in Japan” is a double live album by #deeppurple, recorded during their first tour of Japan in August 1972. It was originally released in December 1972, with a US release in April 1973, and became a commercial and critical success. My copy is a gatefold on #warnerbrosrecords - 2WS 2701. (It’s been thru the wringer. The 2nd album, itself, is missing, with sides 2 & 3). The band were well known for their strong stage act, and had privately recorded several shows, or broadcast them on radio, but were unenthusiastic about recording a live album until their Japanese record company decided it would be good for publicity. They insisted on supervising the live production, including using #MartinBirch, who had previously collaborated with the band, as engineer, and were not particularly interested in the album's release, even after recording. The tour was successful, with strong media interest and a positive response from fans. Now here’s one, NOT, from my second-hand lot, that looks like it should’ve been. I just played the crap out of it in the 70s. “Argus” is the third album by Wishbone Ash. It is their most commercially and critically successful album. It peaked at No. 3 in the UK Albums Chart. My copy is an earlier MCA rerelease, than most. It has the MCA rainbow 🌈 label from 1977 - MCA-49 (formerly DECCA’s DL7-5347) “The album is medieval-themed, featuring a blend of progressive rock, folk, and hard rock, and is considered a landmark album in the progression of twin-lead guitar harmonisation later adopted by bands such as #thinlizzy and #ironmaiden . The sound engineer on #argus was #martinbirch who also worked with #deeppurple later with #blacksabbath #ironmaiden and other hard rock bands. Falleció el legendario Martin Headmaster Birch a los 71 años. Ingeniero de sonido y productor de altos hornos, Birch fue uno de los arquitectos del rock duro y el metal pesado. Very sad to hear that one of my family's closest friends, Martin Birch has passed away. Even sadder that his family isn't allowed to gather to comfort one and other or morn him. Life is so short and we never know when or what will take it from us.
