"Y/L/N, you’re with me today."
"Oh great, so it’ll be an easy day!"
Natasha threw a murderous glare over her shoulder at her friend, watching her lift her arms up, "don’t be so sure of yourself."
"We’ll see Romanoff." The two best friends sparred for over an hour, not realizing they gained an audience during this short period of time, the boys still shocked about the fact that you were the only one, apart from Yelena too, that could knock the widow out during a sparring session, none of them succeeding in this task, being always the ones sprawled on the mat with a smug Natasha watching them from above. "C’mon Romanoff, this is all you got?"
Natasha grunted and sprinted towards Y/N, the ash-blonde effortlessly dodging Natasha’s hit and crouched down to sweep her off her feet, making her fall on the mat with a loud thud and a frustrated groan, "go easy on her tiger, she’s still a rookie." A familiar voice yelled from the other side of the room, her accent strong than ever, putting an instant smile on the ash-blonde’s face.
She got up and walked towards the approaching figure, accompanied by an unknown black haired girl, "look who’s finally back, missed me Belova?"
"Not even for a second." The blonde had her signature smirk on, who broadened when her best friend opened her arms to let her in for a craved big hug. Yelena leaped into Y/N’s arms and squeezed her tightly, the ash-blonde doing just the same with just as much enthusiasm.
"Well, I missed your stupid face."
"Mushy. Have you gone soft when I was away?"
"You know what? You should have stayed forever in Morocco."
"You would’ve missed me too much."
"Don’t make me use my favorite knife Belova." The two laughed softly and bumped their shoulders together, "oh, how rude. I’m sorry, I’m-"
"Y/N Y/L/N. I know, big fan." The unknown girl interjected enthusiastically, gripping the outstretched hand the ash-blonde offered her and shaking it eagerly.
"Always a pleasure to meet a fan!" She smiled brightly at the blue eyed girl, finding really difficult to look away from her mesmerizing eyes, "and you are?"
"Oh right! I’m Kate, Kate Bishop. Hawkeye." Kate was still frantically shaking Y/N’s hand, a gesture that Y/N found really cute and entertaining, with the corner of her eye catching Yelena snort softly at the funny scene playing in front of her. It seemed that the sound her best friend emitted was enough to pull Kate away from her daze, stop looking at Y/N in awe and clear her throat softly after releasing the girl’s hand, smiling embarrassed.
"I’m pretty sure Hawkeye looked slightly different last time I saw him." Y/N quipped, hearing Natasha laugh beside her, not hearing her approach them. Damned spies abilities. Y/N you are a spy too. Shut up.
"Oh, I’m the other one. Some people says I’m the best archer in the world. The best of us two, but he doesn’t know that." Kate whispered the last part with her hand placed beside her mouth, like it was the most important secret in the world, earning a laugh from the other three girls.
"Clint called me when I was in Morocco, she is our new recruit. We worked together on the mission. She is really good with a bow and an arrow. And she is funny too. Y/N just know that I just replaced you with her."
Y/N stared with her mouth slacked open and disbelief showing in her on her face, "y’know what Belova? Go fuck yourself."
Y/N went to walk away with a unimpressed expression, hearing a melodious, but unfamiliar laugh, that pulled a soft smile at the new and addicting sound, but the ash-blonde quickly replaced it with a pout to prove her point, when a hand prevented her to, pulling her back and felt her body collide with another one, Yelena ruffling her hair softly and chuckling at her friend, "ohw, Y/L/N you’re so easy to make fun of!"
-
Tony decided to throw one of his characteristic parties to welcome Kate on the team, stating that it would be an intimate, small party, but when the ash-blonde walked out of the elevator she was met with at least 300 people she didn’t recognize, rolling her eyes and shaking her head fondly at the billionaire, mumbling a soft ‘typical of Tony’. She walked towards the bar, leaning her back on the counter and observing the room full of people, "what is a pretty girl like you doing here all alone?"
Y/N smiled at the voice and turned around with a seductive smirk, "I was waiting for an hot redhead bartender to offer me a drink."
"Smooth. What do you want to drink?"
"The usual." Natasha nodded and placed two shot glasses on the counter, filling them with vodka and offering one to her best friend, both clicking them together and cheering before knocking the liquid down their throats.
"You started without me!" Yelena whined when she arrived at the bar wearing a green dress and her hair pulled up in a perfect braid, Natasha chuckling at her sister’s antics and grabbing another shot glass, filling it and passing it to her, who drank the liquid fast and slammed it on the counter for a refill. The three of them cheered with their refilled shot glasses and drank again, neither of them reacting at the taste.
"Wow El, a dress. I’m impressed." She made an ‘I approve’ face, her eyes raking her friend’s figure before meeting up her stare, "I thought you only lived with you cargo pants on."
"And don’t forget her vest." Natasha added with a smug smirk.
"Oh! How could I forget Yelena’s beloved vest!" Y/N continued with a sarcastic voice, making Nat chuckle with her.
Yelena stared at the two with her mouth slightly open in disbelief, "you jerks, they have a lots of pockets! And you told me you liked them!"
Yelena let her characteristic pout show up on her face and Y/N and Natasha let out tender ‘aw’s picking the blonde’s cheeks, "of course we like them, babe. In fact we love them! And they suit you perfectly." Y/N half-pouted, half-smiled at Yelena and pinched her her cheeks some more before hugging her briefly.
“I hate you.”
“No you don’t.” Y/N smirked and drank another shot of vodka, the two Russians mirroring her, slamming the glasses down and turning around to survey the room full of people.
"I have still to wrap my mind around the fact that you freaks don’t make weird faces while doing vodka shoots." Sam approached the three girls with a teasing smile on, the three of them rolling their eyes fondly.
"Pfft, amateur." Yelena teased Sam, who smiled at her, drinking another shot, just to brag a little, Sam mumbling a ‘show off’ to the blonde, causing a laugh to escape her lips, Natasha and Y/N shaking their heads chuckling. The two of them started to talk animatedly over something Y/N didn’t pay attention to it, because once her eyes laid on the figure walking down the stairs, she shut the entire room out, the girl hearing only a faint muffled sound.
There she was, Kate, walking down the stairs with a midnight blue, velvet dress, her hair tied up in a messy, but fancy bun and light make up, highlighting her blue eyes, Y/N fighting - and failing - against her eyes wanting to ogle at the archer, not wanting to seem like a creep.
"Close your mouth, Y/L/N, or you’ll catch flies." This snapped Y/N out of her trance, blinking up a couple of times before looking at Nat pleadingly, not wanting her to tease for this, the ash-blonde knowing she wouldn’t hear the end of it, "don’t worry, I don’t blame you. She’s hot."
The green eyed girl was wearing a dark grey suit with a white blouse under, bold make up to highlight her eyes and a nude lipstick. When she saw the black haired girl she adjusted her blazer subtly and cleared her throat, Nat watching her with her signature smirk.
"Hi guys! Wow! So, this is one of the infamous Tony Stark’s parties! Clint talked about them all the time." Kate looked around the room for a brief moment before looking back at the two girls smiling up at her.
"Well you get used to it." Y/N replied nonchalantly, leaning on the counter on her arm, crossing her legs and staring at her smugly, trying to give off a cool vibe.
"No you don’t." Yelena interjected, her head leaning on her closed fists, enjoying Y/N’s poor attempt to look cool, Y/N not noticing she took Natasha‘s place behind the bar, the redhead now was at the end of the counter, talking to Sam and Scott.
"Right, you just plainly ignore i everything after the umpteenth party." She cleared her throat and changed the subject, "so Clint, hm? What’s the deal with… y’know… sharing the same name…?"
"Oh we just approved we have the same superhero’s name."
"Right, so you worked with him?" Y/N asked curiously, wanting to get to know the blue eyed girl, meanwhile Yelena eyed her best friend with a knowing, soft smile.
"Well yes, he was my mentor, and after lot of missions together he told me I was ready to become an Avenger. That’s where I met Yelena." The girl smiled and lifted her shot glass up, drinking it up quickly, Y/N signaling to fill her a shot too.
Yelena moved the bottle towards the black haired girl with an arched eyebrow, silently asking her if she wanted some, the girl nodding enthusiastically, only to grimace and groan when she drank her first shot alongside Y/N, losing count of how many shots she already had, but she wasn’t worried, knowing she held her liquor really well, "ugh, I don’t know how you look so unfazed by this burning sensation."
"I know right!" Sam yelled from the other side, making Kate snort at him and nod in agreement.
"So what’s your story? Yelena talked a lot about you." It was now Kate’s turn to ask questions, mirroring the green eyes F girl in front of her, leaning her arm on the counter.
"All good things I hope."
"Of course… not…" Yelena was just plainly drinking from the bottle now, smirking at her best friend, who snatched the bottle from her hands and took a swig of the liquor, passing the bottle to Kate, who reluctantly grabbed it and took a small sip, not wanting to feel that excessively burning sensation.
Y/N rolled her eyes and shook her head, pushing her best friend hard on the shoulder, the girl not even moving a slight bit, smirking up at her smugly, "we know each other since we were kids. I met Natasha and Yelena in the red room."
"You’re a widow too?!" Kate asked in disbelief, widening her eyes and taking a big swig of alcohol now.
"Yes, Natasha was lucky enough to escape, but me and Yelena went through hell, with psychological conditioning and all." Both girls shivered at the memory and Kate stared at them sympathetically, "but it’s all in the past now."
"Wait, psychological conditioning? What’s that?"
"Well it’s a chemical substance that alter your synapses and practically makes you an lethal human puppet." Y/N explained, Yelena nodding beside her.
"Can you repeat that in a language that can be understood by us normal people?"
"Yeah right." Kate laughed and drank some more alcohol, but when she noticed the two best friends didn’t laugh with her, she asked with an appalled expression, "you’re kidding right?"
"I wish it was joke. We were fully conscious of our bodies and our actions, but at the same time we weren’t. We were just like puppets moved around by their toy-man. Spectators of our own horrible actions and powerless in front of his orders, unable of fighting against our own selves to stop all of the atrocities we committed." Yelena explained, looking in the distance at the end of her speech, shuddering at the memories. A hand intertwining their fingers together pulled her out of her mind, looking down at Y/N’s thumb caressing the back of her hand softly.
"But it’s in the past now. An old widow helped Yelena escape from physiological conditioning and then she found me and freed me, before we did the same with every other widow all around the world."
They stayed in silence to let Kate sink all these informations in, the girl staring at the two best friend’s in sympathy. She shook her head and changed the subject, wanting to lift the spirits up, "so from what I heard and from what I saw this morning, you’re the only one who can beat the infamous Black Widow. And Yelena too of course."
"Yes, and for the record I can beat Yelena’s ass in a second. So we can say I’m the best widow here."
"You bitch, that’s not true."
"The big bruise on your butt you have every time we fight tells otherwise."
Yelena grunted and punched Y/N hard on her shoulder, the girl screeching a loud ‘ow’ before leaping over the bar and punching Yelena too, who let out a loud "HA!" when she dodger it, her best friend not giving up and trying once again, landing a punch on Yelena’s shoulder, the blonde hissing at the pain, a little, harmless fight going on between them, meanwhile Kate was watching them with fond confusion, watching them fight like two siblings and smiling brightly in finding in them what her and Clint have.

It’s been a couple of months after Kate’s arrival and her addition to the team was precious. She was hard working, focused on the mission but always ready to crack a joke, even at the worst of times, like that one time she when they were surrounded by HYDRA minions.
Y/N and Kate got really close, since when the two went on a mission together, having time to know each other on a deeper level, Y/N opening up about her past in the red room and Kate talking about her childhood and her difficult relationship with his criminal father. They were attached by the hip, almost like Y/N and Yelena.
To say Y/N had a crush on Kate was the understatement of the year and of course Yelena and Natasha knew, the two reading their best friend like a book, asking her friend, when they had their suspects, if she had a crush on Kate and the girl just plainly mushed over Kate’s eyes, face, personality and so on.
"Somebody is whipped already! Oh no! Oh no!" Natasha made fun of her friend, side hugging her, squishing her friend hard.
"Guys have you heard her laugh? It’s the most endearing sound I’ve ever heard… beside Yelena’s snores of course."
"Hey!" Yelena pouted and pushed Y/N on her right shoulder who was still hugging Natasha, causing the two of them to fall on the bed, laughing hard.
"She’s not wrong. Your snores are simultaneously the loudest and the cutest thing in the world." Natasha argued and watched Yelena pout.
"Ow come here big baby, we love your chainsaw snores." Yelena slapped Y/N’s stomach and her sister’s right leg before settling between her sister and her best friend and let them cuddle her on either side of her.
Since her confession they did everything in their power to embarrass her in front of the archer, always finding new ways each passing day, or teased her every time they caught her staring lovingly at the archer.
But they outdone theirselves this very night. It started like a normal game night with the Avengers, just hanging out a bit and let the world’s problems disappear for just one night.
"We should play truth or dare." Thor proposed out of the blue, sipping on his Asgardian beer, some concoction that Y/N, Yelena and Natasha tried one night, finding themselves the next day sleeping naked in the backyard with the compound completely trashed and full of colorful styrofoam pieces, not remembering a single thing. They were lucky no one was at the compound that morning and didn’t saw them butt naked. They cleaned the mess and deleted all the surveillance tapes.
"What are you? 12?" Y/N chuckled into her beer, stopping when she saw Thor’s serious expression, "wait, really?"
"Yeah! I did some research and internet told me that it’s one of the most popular games in America!" He told her eagerly, happiness shining in his blue eyes, and who was she to crush a God’s enthusiasm?
"Alright, if you want to play, we can play."
Yelena snorted in her bottle and mumbled, "softy."
"Yelena don’t start or I’ll make you eat the table’s leg again."
"I would pay to see the scene." Natasha laughed hard at her sister’s fearful expression.
"Wait, again?" Kate asked beside Natasha, her widened eyes full of questions and uncertainty.
"That’s a story we’ll tell someday." Yelena dismissed them waving her hand around, Y/N nodding beside her.
"Well, shall we start?" Tony asked, adjusting his position on the couch and asked Steve the first question. This went on for a while until Natasha payed up her dare. She sat down once again and met her sister’s eyes for a brief moment before settling her green orbs on Y/N, who gulped loudly at the expression Natasha was sporting.
"Y/N?"
"Hm?" The ash-blonde asked uncertain.
"Truth or dare?"
"Truth." The girl answered, knowing really well Natasha would embarrass her for life with her dares.
"HA! Told ya! She’s a pussy." Yelena yelled, pushing Natasha softly on her shoulder, taking a big swig of her drink, Natasha nodding beside her, taking sip of her own beer.
Y/N rolled her eyes and took a deep calming breath, "dare."
"That’s my girl." Yelena patted her shoulder, laughing when Y/N punched her softly in her stomach, Yelena bumping their shoulders together, laughing carefree.
"Y/N…" oh god… this is it… "I want you to tell the worst pick up lines you could think of…" Y/N smiled and went to mumble ‘easy’, sighing in relief, when Natasha continued, pausing to make it look like she was still thinking about a dare for Y/N, "to Kate." Y/N’s grin fell off her face, that turned slightly white at the prospect of flirting with her crush. She recovered quickly and addressed her two best friends, who were failing miserably to cover their smirks with their beer bottles.
"It’s fine by me, if you want to do the dare." Kate stepped in with a warm and comforting smile, trying to soothe the ash-blonde’s self-doubts away.
"Oh she has to comply to the dare. Otherwise I’ll ask Thor to place his hammer on her head." Y/N considered her options, for a moment really considering Thor’s hammer on her head, but in the end swallowing her fears and got up - deciding it would definitely hurt more Thor’s hammer than embarrass herself in front of her crush, one option could wound her body, the other one could wound her pride. In all honesty she was still considering it while sitting up, conflicting thoughts swirling around her head until she walked in front of Kate and sat beside her, deciding on complying her dare.
"Alright, here I am. What are your other two wishes?" Y/N told Kate, staring directly into her intoxicating blue eyes with a serious expression, beside them Yelena and Natasha lost it immediately, laughing their asses off at the pick up line Y/N delivered.
"That was the worst pick up line I’ve ever heard." Natasha said between laughs, Yelena leaning her body on hers for support, repeatedly slapping softly her sister’s arm.
"I feel sorry for you Kate." The blonde wiped the tears that escaped her eyes and composed herself, wanting to focus on the priceless show she was witnessing.
Y/N rolled her eyes at her two dumb best friends and flipped them off, hearing a soft giggle coming out of Kate, smiling at the cute sound, "four more to come. You can do it!" Kate encouraged Y/N, who nodded and looked back into her intoxicating eyes.
"I was wondering… aside from being sexy, what do you do for a living?" Y/N was starting to feel sweat beads forming on her forehead, trying really hard to shut her best friends’ laughs out, the other Avengers watching the scene intently, a few cracking a smile at Y/N’s efforts.
"Good one." Y/N swore she saw the faintest blush on Kate’s face but she thought nothing of it, feeling herself getting dizzy from embarrassment.
"If I could rearrange the alphabet I would put ‘U’ and ‘I’ together."
"Booo." Yelena yelled, "you can do much better."
"Yelena I sweat to God-"
"Focus on me c’mon, you’re doing great." Kate interjected and stopped Y/N from throwing a murderous glare at her best friend, who was finding entertainment in her agony.
"Do you believe in love at first sight or should I walk by again?"
Kate snorted and nodded, Y/N not really understanding if it was to approve her pick up line or answering her question, but she didn’t want to think about it too much, fearing she would faint in front of her crush if it was the latter. "Last one. Hit me with your best one yet, c’mon."
Y/N took the hem of her blue t-shirt and stretched it over to Kate, caressing it softly, "here, feel my shirt." Kate tentatively touched her shirt, their fingers brushing lightly, sending shock waves throughout Y/N’s body, but fought against her brain shutting off and continued with her pick up line, "do you know what it’s made of? Girlfriend material." She told her seriously and kept her eyes glued on Kate’s ones, watching her blush and smile shyly at her.
"Good job. Those were the worst pick up lines I’ve ever heard. Thank you." The archer giggled and Y/N felt over the moon, standing up and feeling her legs almost give out, wobbling over her seat beside Yelena, crashing on the couch, leaning her head on the cushion behind her and closing her eyes. She felt the blonde approaching her, hugging her torso and whispering in her ear, "good job womanizer. It was a funny scene to watch but I think we paved the way for you to make your move tonight."
Y/N’s eyes snapped open and turned her head towards the blonde who was smiling up at her sincerely, "El are you drunk? I’m not going to confess my crush to her! I embarrassed myself enough tonight!"
"You’ll thank us later, you’ll see." Yelena simply stated, patting her hand on her stomach and pulling away, "it’s your turn dickface." Yelena pushed Y/N on the shoulder to get her attention, the girl staring off into space with an unfocused expression, her best friend bringing her back on earth.
"Yelena, truth or dare?" Y/N asked in an hard tone, staring at Yelena in challenge and determination with her right eyebrow up.
-
Everyone called it a night about 10 minutes ago but Y/N stayed back to clean up a little bit, not really sleepy, her mind still reeling from her dare, still not believing she embarrassed herself in front of Kate. Sure she laughed it off, only because she is too polite and sweet to tell her she was disgusting and to tell the ash-blonde to fuck o-
"Knock knock."
Y/N’s train of thoughts was interrupted by a voice, the girl too busy in her own mind to hear someone approach her, and turned around, smiling softly at the blue eyed girl, "who’s there?"
"Baby Yoda." Kate answered seriously and this took Y/N aback, confusion clear on her face.
"Baby Yoda who?"
"Baby Yoda one for me." Y/N snorted loudly at the poor attempt of a pick up line Kate just told her, "it was bad, wasn’t it?" She grimaced and chuckled softly, walking further into the common area of the Avengers compound.
"Not as awful as mines, but yeah… it was really bad." Y/N laughed, dumping an empty cup into the trash bag she was holding into her left hand.
"I found a couple of them good, cute almost."
"Ugh, please let’s not talk about those ever again, I embarrassed myself enough." Y/N let out a mix between a groan and a whine, frantically throwing everything into the bag and walking into the kitchen to settle it in the trash can.
"You don’t have to feel embarrassed I-"
"You don’t need to explain yourself, I let my guard down with those two idiots and they involved you in all of this. I didn't want to drag you into my mess and I didn’t want to make you uncomfortable."
"Bu-wait let your guard down? Your mess?"
Y/N widened her eyes at the questions, still a little bit intoxicated from the alcohol she consumed after the dare, wanting to suppress everything with a little bit - it was more than a little bit - of vodka. It made her just slightly tipsy, but enough to loose her inhibitions it seems, "fuck- I- gotta go."
"Wait no-" Kate grabbed her arm before she could exit the kitchen and turned her around to face the archer’s warm eyes one again, Y/N ones full of uncertainty, insecurities and distress, "what did you mean by that?"
"I- uhm…" Y/N broke their staring contest and frantically searched something to settle her eyes on, desperately trying to find a way out of this mess she created, but when her eyes settled on those blue hues she became fond of once again, so full of comfort and affection, she decided right here, right now to just dive in and see what happens. She survived the Red Room, what is revealing to your crush you like them in comparison? Fucking terrifying, let me tell you. "Okay, fuck it…" Y/N paused in anticipation to take a breath to give her enough courage to confess her feelings for the blue eyed girl, the archer holding her breath in anticipation, hoping this conversation was heading were she thought it was heading. "I like you, Kate. And I told my best friends about my feelings for you and since then they did everything to embarrass me in front of you, hence the dare. I didn’t want to drag you into this mess, but I did, and I’m sorry."
"Since when?"
"About two months ago."
Silence fell upon them, Y/N never felt anxious, not even when she was alone fighting against 35 thugs wanting her dead. But right now, with Kate’s eyes studying her face intently, still not saying a word about her confession except for her previous question, she felt nauseous, anxious and dreading the reaction, wanting to run as fast and far as possible.
"I was wondering about a thing I read sometime ago…" Kate spoke up after what felt an eternity for the former widow, anxiety became confusion, Y/N’s furrowed eyebrow were a clear sign. She expected Kate calling her disgusting, asking her to stay away from her, hell she even pictured Kate punching squarely in the face. She wasn’t expecting this, whatever this was.
"About what?"
"People say nothing lasts forever so…" she paused for good measure, "do you want to me my nothing?"
Realization hit Y/N like a train, a plane and cruise ship all at once, hope swirling around in her stomach making her feel nauseous in a new and exciting way, "are you saying what I think you’re saying?" She felt a big smile staring to form on her lips, not really fighting against it, letting it freely appear on her face.
"Well if my bad pick up line wasn’t an enough good evidence, maybe this will clear your mind." With that last word of her sentence, Kate surged forward and grasped Y/N’s neck, pulling the former widow towards her and crashing their lips together in what Y/N classified as the best kiss she ever had.
The ash-blonde was a little taken aback from the sudden gesture, not expecting it - not even in her wildest dreams - , freezing up when Kate’s lips wrapped around her own, but Kate’s hand squeezing her neck brought her back on earth, making her reciprocate the kiss.
Their lips moved over each other together, not really wanting to rush anything, just enjoying the closeness and the other’s taste, Y/N’s hands sneaking around her waist and caressed her back affectionately, the girl shivering at the tender gesture. When air became necessary, they broke apart, exchanging a few pecks before reluctantly pulling away from the other. Y/N kept her eyes closed, Kate watching her with amusement written all over her face, biting down on her lower lip to suppress a laugh, while her hands on the back of her head caressed Y/N’s skin softly, leaving a trail of goosebumps in her fingers’ wake, "wow…" Y/N let out with a dreamy voice, Kate humming in agreement.
"I know, the feeling is mutual."
"If this is a dream, do not wake me up!" She said with her eyebrow furrowed in an hard expression, almost like she was talking to someone.
"Open your eyes, it’s true. I’m here."
Kate wasn’t prepared when Y/N forced her eyelids open and her blue hues met the power green that now where Y/N’s eyes, staring at her with what she could only consider a mix of fondness and delight. "Never in a million years I would have thought this would happen tonight, not after the pick up lines fiasco." The ash-blonde let out a soft chuckle, shaking her head side to side.
Kate mirrored her and nodded, "Well for what’s worth it, I think they were good."
"Oh please! They were bad."
"I liked all of them, especially the first one."
"Really?"
"Yes, because you are everything I wish for."
"Now who’s the good one with pick up lines, hm?" Y/N asked smugly and tightened her arms around around Kate’s waist, forcing her to lean her body on her own, their noses brushing together softly.
"You’re incredible." Kate told her out of the blue, staring intently into her eyes.
"And…" Y/N stopped and faked being confused for a second before staring at Kate in awe, the archer waiting expectantly, getting ready for a new pick up line, "you’re so beautiful, you made me forget my pick up line."
Kate blushed hard at that and pulled the girl into a deep, bruising kiss, leaving them both breathless when they pulled away, Kate staring affectionately at Y/N, a warm smile pulling at the corners of her lips.
"Don’t look at me like that, it makes my insides melt and it makes me want to kiss you again."
"Who said you couldn’t?" With that last affirmation, Y/N leaned in and kissed Kate once again, more firmly this time, pressing their lips in an hard kiss, changing angle from time to time to kiss her better. After some time, the ash-blonde let her tongue out to trace Kate’s lips to ask her permission to deepen the kiss, the blue eyed girl granting her immediately, moaning softly when Y/N’s tongue invaded her mouth.
The former widow shivered at Kate’s sound and let out what she pathetically recognized as a whine, pulling on Kate‘s hips hard and flushed their bodies together, leaning impossibly closer on each other, the archer’s hand in her blonde locks tightening their hold, while Y/N’s hand got bolder and wandered down to give a tentative but firm squeeze on the archer’s left butt cheek, pulling the loudest moan so far from Kate, the girl wailing right into Y/N’s mouth, the motion so erotic the ash-blonde felt her legs give out for a split second. One of Kate’s hands left Y/N’s neck to sneak between their bodies and squeeze Y/N’s right breast, both of them moaning at the sensation, Y/N for the unexpected but really welcomed action, Kate for the shocking discovery of the simultaneously soft and firm texture of her boobs, the black haired girl’s eyes staring at Y/N chest more times than she could count every single time she saw her wear tight t-shirts and sport bras, something the girl loved to wear often in the compound and during her daily workout, the archer always wanting to touch but never been able to do it. But now that she can, she was over the moon.
When their lungs burned from lack of air, they pulled away, breathing heavily while raking their eyes on their faces and bodies, finding blushing cheeks, lips swollen and chests hardly heaving, their hands now in safe places, Kate’s ones returning behind Y/N’s neck and Y/N’s ones placed safely on her hips, caressing her through the thin layer of her shirt.
"Is your name Google? Because you’re everything I’m searching for."
Kate giggled cutely and pecked her lips softly, "no, my name is Kate, but you can call me yours." She mumbled on her mouth and Y/N simultaneously blushed harder and let out a soft growl, before diving in for another sweet kiss.
"I like this back-and-forth pick up lines game between us." Y/N smiled shyly at Kate, her eyes shining with glee, joy exuding from every pore of her body.
"Me too." Kate reciprocated the smile and leaned forward to kiss Y/N once again, choosing to kiss her deeply once their lips met, her tongue invading the ash-blonde’s mouth immediately, who moaned at the bold gesture and walked them backwards onto the nearest wall, trapping the archer there with her own body, Kate whining pitifully in her mouth and pulling on her hair hard to hold her impossibly closer.
"Do you have a map? Because I keep getting lost in you eyes." Y/N spoke up after sometime, staring intently into Kate’s blue orbs, the two pulling away to subside their needy kisses, their hearts beating loudly in their chests and the butterflies in their stomaches going crazy.
"Look who’s talking! You have the most beautiful eyes I ever saw."
"I can say the same thing about yours." They stared fondly at one another and smiled shyly. "Go on a date with me." Y/N spoke up after silence fell upon them, watching a blush appear on the black haired girl’s cheeks, the girl interrupting their on going staring contest for only a second to smile shyly at the ground, Y/N pecking the red skin repeatedly, causing the blush on Kate’s face to intensify.
"Yes. I would love to." Kate looked up once again and both lost themselves in their magnetic eyes.
"Good, it’s settled then."
"Yup. It’s a date!"
Y/N smiled at her and pulled away, "now c’mon. I’ll walk you to your bedroom." Y/N outstretched her arm out for Kate to entwine their arms together, Kate’s hand traveling down from her forearm to her hand and intertwined their fingers together, their stomaches doing somersaults at the cute motion and at the intoxicating sensation it caused both girls to feel, before starting to walk out of the kitchen.
"Wait, you were in the middle of cleaning up."
"Oh don’t worry." Y/N waved her hand around in a ‘it’s not a big deal’ gesture, "J.A.R.V.I.S will do that tomorrow, I stayed back to be overdramatic and to beat myself up for embarrassing myself in front of my crush." Kate leaned her head back to laugh at the ridiculousness of Y/N’s reasons to clean up the room, not really to help with tidying up the place, but only to self-pitying herself. "But hey, it helped with having some privacy to talk!"
"True!" Kate sighed and leaned her head on Y/N shoulder, the girl turning her head around to kiss the crown of her forehead.
Y/N switched the lights off and both walked towards the elevator, pressing the button to their floor - luckily Kate lived on the same floor Y/N, Natasha and Yelena stayed at, Kate's bedroom right across Yelena’s bedroom door - . So it shouldn’t have been a surprise to Y/N what happened next.
"I’ll see you tomorrow." Kate nodded, biting her lower lips to suppress the big smile fighting to come out, in the end stopping her efforts in fighting it and letting the brighter-than-the-sun grin to stretch over her lips, the ash-blonde sporting one too, "we have a date to attend to."
Y/N started to lean in to kiss Kate goodnight when suddenly they heard a door open and a smug looking Yelena came into view, leaning her left shoulder on her door frame with her arms crossed, dressed in black sweatpants and white t-shirt, "I want a reward for what I’ve done tonight."
"Yelena!" Y/N only turned slightly towards her best friend, not going too far from Kate.
"What?! It’s true! If it wasn’t for my idea, you wouldn’t be kissing right now!" Yelena’s accent was stronger than ever now, her eyebrow furrowed together to prove she was on their side.
"We’re not kissing right now because you’re disturbing us."
"Oh sorry, pretend I’m not even here!"
"But you are." Y/N argued back and Yelena groaned.
"Kate please make our little Y/N relax, she needs it." Kate just merely laughed while Y/N regarded Yelena with an hard stare, "don’t look at me like that, you’re uptight lately. It’s clear that it’s not working anymore masturbating every night screaming Kate’s-"
"OKAY! Stop!" Kate had a bewildered expression on, laughing baffled at the russian’s unexpected brashness, but felt a slight and familiar pressure between her thighs at the revelation.
"What? I‘m stating the truth! It’s honestly really difficult shutting your moans out! I thought that Stark was rich and could afford soundproof rooms, but living right next to you proved I was wrong."
"Yelena… stop talking or I will make you stop." Y/N drawled each word, growling under her breath, Kate just watching amused at the two best friends acting like children, feeling Y/N’s hand on her hips squeeze her side, not too much tho.
"I didn’t say anything wrong. I was just informing Kate of your late night acti-"
"That’s it." Y/N pulled away from Kate, and walked towards Yelena, pushing her into her room and turning around just a second to say to Kate, "excuse me, I’ll beat her up quickly and we can finish our talk." And then closed the door.
Kate stared at the wooden surface a couple of seconds with a still shocked but aroused expression, a fond smile on her lips at the two best friends’ antics, before jumping on her spot startled when she heard a loud thud, followed by grunts, commotions and fighting sounds from the other side. A few seconds later Y/N emerged from Yelena’s room, opening the door wide enough for the archer to see the blonde leaning on her bed, facing the door.
"I’m okay!" She winced and flipped Y/N off with her middle finger, the ash-blonde chuckling and blowing her a kiss before turning and walking towards Kate, waiting patiently in front of her bedroom door.
"I’ll see you tomorrow. Goodnight." She rounded her arms around her waist and pulled her closer, Kate’s hands entwining behind Y/N’s neck, both grinning brightly at the other.
"Goodnight Y/N." They met halfway in a sweet kiss, both smiling on each other lips at the ‘aw’ Yelena emitted form her position on the bed.
They pulled away a few seconds after, Kate turning around to open her bedroom door, but before she could close it, Y/N spoke up, "I must be in a museum, because you are a truly piece of art!"
Kate chuckled and Y/N purposefully ignored her best friend’s snort from her bedroom, "go to sleep, you must be tired! Because you’ve been running though my mind all day!"
They both laughed at their pick up lines, hearing Yelena yell enthusiastically ‘the girl got game!’ before Kate closed her bedroom door, Y/N turning around and walking in Yelena’s bedroom, closing the door and trudging towards the bed, leaning down beside her best friend, "don’t say a word."
Yelena smiled brightly at her best friend and hugged her tightly, leaning her head on her shoulder and looking up at her with a fond smile, "you are perfect for each other! I can’t wait to tell Nat first thing in the morning."
"Ugh, great." Y/N faked being annoyed, when in fact she was really grateful for her two best friends, who she considered family, along with the Avengers of course, pulling Yelena close, cuddling her in comfort, something they had done since their first night in the red room, the action calming both of them immediately.
"Thank you, by the way. For helping me find the courage to tell her how I felt."
Firstly I want to say thank you so much for liking my recent frank castle smut! I never thought it would have such reaction, so THANK YOU GUYS I LOVE YOU!! AND MORE TO COME.
Which brings me to me next question...who wants to be apart of the bernthal babes taglist? Comment down below.🌹💅🏽

This has not been beta read, all mistakes are absolutely mine.
It's 3:26 AM in the Compound and once again you are awake and sitting on one of the couches with a box of cookies, an entire bottle of whiskey, and a vacant expression. Most of the time your meds take the edge off of your depression, sometimes it doesn't though. When it doesn't it can get dark up there in your brain.
Wanda comes wandering through on her way to the kitchen and sees you sitting there in the dark, "(Y\N)? Are you alright?" When you don't respond she walks over and sits at the end of the couch beside your feet, patting your leg gently. "Lost in your own mind again, huh, sweetie?"
After a few gestures with her hands a red glow illuminates the room as she tries to reach into your thoughts. "Why am I even here? They hate me anyway. Everything hurts. I just want it to stop." - followed by images of various ways within the tower to end a life. She gasps quietly to herself.
"F.R.I.D.AY.? Is anyone else awake?" she said out loud to the AI.
"Yes, ma'am," the robotic voice responded.
"Can you ask them to join us in the lounge? It's urgent."
"Of course, ma'am."
After a few moments, Tony is the first person around the corner, rotating his joints and grumbling, "Wanda? Really? It's three in the morning. Why in God's name...what is so important that you had to..."
She cuts him off by pointing in your direction beside her, "She's disassociated again. I read her mind, Stark. It's not pleasant." You look in his general direction, sigh, and lay down using the armrest for a pillow.
"Oh...OH. Well, the last thing (Y/N) needs is this. I'll be right back. This isn't my area of...expertise. You call everyone who's awake?" he says as he grabs the bottle of whiskey off the coffee table beside you. You made a whining grunt and try to grab it back. "Nope, kid. This is absolutely off the menu. F.R.I.D.A.Y.?"
"Yes, Mr. Stark?" the disembodied voice responds again.
"Order locks for my liqueur cabinets."
"Yes, sir. Order placed."
"I'm going to put this away and bring her some water. Someone stay with her tonight to make sure she doesn't go off the rails. I'm going back to bed. I'm sure Nat and Barnes are awake, at least. Probably Rogers. Who knows. I just know this isn't what I'm good at," he says as he replaces the bottle into the cabinet and fills a glass from the sink at the bar. He walks over and hands it to you. "Here ya go, (Y/N). I'm sure you'll be in more capable hands than mine." He ruffles your hair a bit and looks at Wanda, "If no one else comes out here, she's your responsibility, Red. Got it?"
"Yes, yes, I know. I'll keep an eye on her," she responds while tugging the blanket down off the back of the couch and wrapping you in it. You murmur a small thank you to her and a goodnight to Tony.
"Goodnight, kid," he said as he walks out of the room about the same time Steve comes around the corner. "Oh, good, the Stars and Stripes has arrived. Problem solved."
Steve looks at Tony as he walks out of the room with mild confusion and then at the couch where you and Wanda still were. The look on her face told him everything he needed to know. He crosses the room at a jog and sits down cross-legged on the floor beside the couch.
"Hey...I've got you. What's wrong?" he says, brushing your hair out of your face. You just shake your head in response. He looks at Wanda, "She talked much? You do that...magic thing you do? What's going on in her head?"
"You don't want to know. She's spoken a couple of times, but not much. It's got ahold of her pretty good this time. I could try to shift her thoughts to something else but that is not fixing it. That is just delaying the pain," she says quietly while running a hand along your leg for comfort.
Steve nods, "I've got an idea." He stands and walks off at a brisk pace with an obvious purpose leaving you and Wanda alone again.
Wanda sighs and points at the glass of water, "You need to drink that." In an effort to make you smile she surrounds a straw on the bar in the corner in red swirls of magic and plinks it down into the glass that is still in your hand. It works a little, she gets a tiny smile for her effort, and you take a sip through the straw.
You hear heavy footsteps coming from the hallway seconds before Steve and Bucky come around the corner. Steve pats him on the back and turns to walk back down the hall the way they came as Bucky yawns and rubs his eyes. You cringe a little, feeling like you've woke half the tower up and are just being a nuisance. The last thing you wanted to do is bother people with your issues.
Bucky's brow furrows as he walks over to where you're currently burritoed in the blanket. He doesn't say a word, he just leans down and tilts your head up slightly by your chin looking at your eyes intently. He tilts your face slightly from side to side before running his thumb across your cheek.
"Her eyes are pretty severely dilated and she looks extremely tense. Steve said she was disassociated again? It looks like he's right," he says matter-of-factly at Wanda.
She nods, "I checked her thoughts and this absolutely seems like a you kind of situation. I apologize that he woke you up...but I'm glad he did."
"It's alright when you're the best man for the job. I've got it from here, Wanda. Go get some rest. If I need you, you're just a couple doors down." Bucky yawns slightly as he speaks before bending down, "(Y/N)? I'm going to pick you up. Is that okay?"
You nod and hand your barely touched glass of water to Wanda. He slides his metal arm under your knees and wraps his right around your back before lifting you and the blanket both like you weigh as much as a feather.
You grumble a little at the movement involuntarily but turn inward to lay your head against his chest as he carries you silently down the hall. It's been a while since you've felt this low. Sometimes it takes someone who has stared that void down just as often to understand exactly what you need. Bucky Barnes might be a hardass on the best of days, but he has a soft spot for people who have faced similar demons.
He carefully opens the door to your room with his right hand while easily keeping you propped secure. He carries you in and sits you down with your back against your pillows. You slide ungracefully down into a small ball as he sits down on the other end of the bed.
"There you go, doll. Safe and sound in your own space. You know the drill, five things you can see," he says as he starts the grounding technique that he uses himself.
"Door. Desk. Lamp. Chair. You," you respond your voice barely above a whisper.
"Four things you can touch."
You pat your pillow and grab your favorite stuffed owl.
"Nope. Out loud. You've got this."
You sigh, "Pillow." You pat your pillow again. "Winston." You give the owl a squeeze. "The blanket." You smile slightly and poke his leg with your toe. "You."
He holds back a chuckle and keeps going, "Three things you hear."
"The clock, the fan, my breathing," you respond, your voice getting a little stronger.
"Two you can smell."
"Laundry soap, you say as you rotate around and to his shock, lay your head in his lap, "You. You smell nice."
This actually brings a laugh out of him for once, "And one thing you can taste."
You sit up and grab two chocolates out of the bowl on your nightstand, handing one over. "Chocolate," you mumble after popping the other in your mouth.
"There she is. Good job, doll. Feeling better?" he smiles.
"Not really but that did help. My head isn't all floaty," you say leaning back into his lap again causing a bit of a confused grunt. "What? You're comfy."
He shakes his head, "Wanna talk about it? Wanda said your brain was pretty messed up earlier."
"I'd rather not but it's been a while since my thoughts were...that bad," you frown a little.
Bucky understands what you mean without you having to spell it out and gathers you up, pulling you up to his chest. "I know you likely don't believe me...hell, I wouldn't believe me, but there's not a single person in this building who doesn't care about you and who would miss you if you weren't here. Understood?" He places an oddly affectionate kiss on the top of your head.
You nod, letting a few tears fall before full on sobbing into his shirt a few moments later. He lets you cry it out, running his fingers through your hair until you stop.
"That's more like it. Are you safe? Is it safe for me to go get some sleep before the meeting in a few hours?" he hugs you as your breathing slows back down.
"I mean, I guess? I'll be okay," you say with fake conviction.
"Well, that answers that question. Come on, let's get some sleep," he scoots around to lean against the pillows but leaves you against his chest. He pulls the blankets up and wraps an arm around you.

XVII.I. Steve and You: Moments
The friendship was budding organically, as easy as a cool breeze on a sunny winter day, as natural as the flower blooms in the spring. Although Steve had always loved her more than friends, he knew it was needed for him too, to let time heals what willpower can’t.
When she came over to his house almost two years ago, sniffling, “I know you’re hung up on me, and I don’t want you to. I need to be alone for a while…” Steve didn’t want to let go. He was about to win her back and how he swore the timing couldn’t be worse. He wished he could pour his heart out to her, he wished he could say what he had been rehearsing.
“What I feel about you is not something I can just let go, Y/N. This is… special. And ll do everything in my power to make it work. Give me a chance to show you how much this means to me.”
But life gave him another story, so he offered to be her friend instead.
And they had always loved each other, no matter how they wanted to label it so it was really just about time until they ended up falling in love again. It was all so natural, effortless and easy, they didn't even know which date they had to choose for their anniversary, there was no grand gesture or epiphany or the metaphorical line being crossed, it was like eating ice cream in a hot summer day, you enjoyed it so much you didn’t realize you finished it.
So when their wedding planner asks them that question, they stare at each other with puzzled looks and they chuckle, “We don’t have an anniversary date,” they say it in unison. The three of them are sitting in the coffee shop a couple of blocks from Steve’s apartment.
“You guys really don’t know the date? Or… maybe the date of your first kiss?” The wedding planner, Jerome, whom Nat recommended to them, raises his eyebrow.
Steve smiles shyly at him, “We didn’t note that on our calendar either.”
But of course, although Steve doesn’t remember the date, he remembers the moment. After all, we all keep the moments, the feelings, the memories, not the technicality of some symbol made by the Romans.
At first they were only hanging out once a week, usually after him and Sam went for a run on Sunday. The three of them would try different breakfast places in New York and sometimes she and Steve would continue the afternoon by lazing around at his place, watching some old movies.
And then Sam got busy so sometimes it was just the two of them going for a run, eating breakfast, watching movies and then the hour became longer and it stretched to dinner. And then Sunday became the whole weekend, and then sometimes they added weekday dinners. And just like that, they had a shared calendar.
The new bagel place next Saturday!
Or; I know you have an ophthalmologist appointment next Monday but do you think it’ll be over by noon? I have surgery in the afternoon.
Or; Can we go to Walmart instead of Wholefood for the next grocery shopping?
Or; I’m so sad, the pizza place on the 13th will be closing for renovation! We have to eat there EVERYDAY now.
The relationship evolved from platonic to romantic when Steve came to her place one night, feeling down after losing a patient in the surgery. The little dog who was hit by a car didn’t make it, the seven year old boy cried in front of Steve and he couldn’t shake that image out of him. She was reminded again how gentle and kind Steve’s heart was, and if it was still hers, she would take care of it this time, not to let it ever break again.
She made him a warm chocolate as it was the beginning of winter and Steve felt cold. Steve watched her back as she poured the hot water into the mugs, then he approached her and hugged her from behind, his hands on her stomach, chin rested on her right shoulder and she leans her cheek to his head, letting the time froze, staying like that in solitude, feeling the warmth transferring from one another.
And she remembered how easy it was to love this man.
It was almost Christmas, they were sitting on the park bench while eating hot dogs. They just came back from the concert in Carnegie Hall and they were hungry and all the restaurants were full. She was too lazy to take off her gloves because it was freezing and she held the warm coffee cups in each of her hands. Steve shared the hot dogs with her, both hands holding it because it would fall apart if he didn’t. He took another big bite and the mustard splattered to the edge of his mouth, he licked it but it was smeared even further. “You made it worse,“ she commented.
“Can you please wipe it?” Steve nodded to the napkins that were shoved to his jacket’s pocket earlier. She looked at their hands, all occupied. So she leaned in and licked the mustard instead and left a peck to his lips afterwards, innocent and nonchalant.
Steve gasped, his breathing stopped for a second while she showed him a toothy grin. His face turned red— oh, Steve blushed easily, he couldn’t wait to free up his hands. So the moment she finished the hot dogs and his hands were finally free, he cupped her face and went for a real kiss, her tongue was still tangy of mustard and bitter of coffee. He kissed her before, but this one was especially memorable, it was long awaited yet unexpected at the same time. It was perfect.
“Well, what about the first… um, sex? We can use the date, do you remember that?” Jerome fans his face with his long and perfectly manicured fingers. He checks out Steve again. At this point, she has come to understand that both women and men check out Steve all the time because of his too-friendly demeanor and a greek god body, and that’s something she has to live with for the rest of her life.
She and Steve look at each other again and his cheek blush a little. “Oh boy, did we remember—, of course,” he chuckles.
The sex happened a couple of days after the kiss. They were already spending the night together, not leaving each other’s side and Steve had to stop the make out session because it was just too hot for him to handle. He was hard and felt like about to explode so he said, “I gotta take a cold shower, sweetheart. Let’s stop for a while.”
“Why?” she protested. “I didn’t say stop, did I?”
Steve looked at her with anticipating eyes. “You’re okay? If I… you know.”
“Yes.” She didn’t waste any second to pull him for a kiss again but Steve breaks the kiss. “Wait, wait, wait, I really need to make it clear this time. You let me… um, you know.” He couldn’t seem to say it.
She almost laughed, she thought Steve looked so adorable, nervous yet really horny.
“Yes. I’m giving you full consent… to fuck me. Is that what you need to hear? Come on, Rogers, fuck me,” she said it in a scandalized tone and Steve gulped. With just those words alone, Steve swore he almost came in his pants. He had been fantasizing about this for years.
“Oh I will,” he hissed, and they never came out from the bedroom that weekend.
“But really, we don’t remember the exact date,” she says.
“What about the proposal?” Jerome asks again, batting his eyelashes. “Surely it must be quite memorable!”
She chuckles, “No, not really… nothing like a grand gesture.”
Jerome sighs, “Luckily you look like this,” gesturing to Steve’s head to toe, and then sips his tea.
It was one year later, another winter, after their first kiss, they were talking about how good it was to go somewhere warm in the globe to escape the cold weather. Steve suddenly remembered she still owed him something from a bet he won a long time ago.
“You said you’re gonna wear anything I choose!”
“There is a statute of limitation of bets, Steve!” she groaned, but Steve argued, “No, not in my world!” And they were childishly bickering until Steve said, “I only wanted to ask you to wear white, sweetheart. That’s all.”
Her face went what do you mean?
So Steve opened the drawer in his nightstand and took out a vintage looking box, it was his mother’s ring. And she said yes.
No grand gesture, no uncomfortable or awkward situation, just her and Steve sharing the moment, a memory they would cherish forever, the way she loved and wanted.
“Ok, so I guess I can’t create a timeline in the pre-wedding video or photos collage then?” Jerome knits his eyebrow.
“Um, can we also not have those? To be honest, we didn’t even want a wedding,” Steve continues. “You’re gonna be the only person who knows this secret, Jerome. But we’re technically already married.”
Jerome’s eyeballs widen, almost jumping out of their sockets. “Pardon?”
“We eloped a week after the proposal. We just went to the city hall and got married.” She smiles, remembering that night. It seemed like a good idea at that time but then they realized it wasn’t so good anymore when they thought about their friends and family. Nick would want to walk her down the aisle and Bucky would kill Steve if he never got to be his best man. So they picked a date in the spring, cleaned up the garden in Steve’s parents’ house and hired Jerome.
“Oh my god, you guys are really one of those couples, aren’t you…” Jerome shakes his head. “So blindly in love, you don’t care about material things. Oh my sweet summer child…” He rolls his eyes.
She giggles at the view of Jerome’s face, this guy does have a thousand expressions. Jerome scribbles something on his iPad and asks again, “Do you have anything in mind for the flower, the cake or the invitation’s design?”
“Can you do that for us? We trust you have an eye for those beautiful things,” Steve says.
“Are you saying you leave everything to me?” Jerome drops his jaw.
“Yes,” she affirms.
“So you’re paying me to plan and run a wedding that’s basically anything I want?” Jerome’s eyes sparkle.
“Yes, but please, nothing over the top. Just a good time with friends and family.” Steve grins.
They drive together, the three of them, to Steve’s parents’ house and Jerome looks even more excited than before, looking at the beautiful backyard. He’s babbling about all the things he wants to do with the place and promises the happy couple that it’s gonna be an intimate and beautiful wedding.
He keeps his promise.
❀☀☂☃
Bucky arrives two days before the wedding day. His reunion with Steve is not dramatic at all, it’s like they were never separated. Yes, they hug and it may last a minute longer than usual but apart from that, it’s like they just met up yesterday for lunch. Technically Steve and Bucky talk every week, unless Bucky is away for missions. Sometimes Steve would just prop the phone up on the kitchen counter, while the video call is on and Bucky would just watch him cooking while doing push ups. Bucky told Steve about their codependency, but they didn’t seem willing to take care of it. They video called each other so often that sometimes Y/N didn’t realize if Bucky was on the phone. Steve would leave the phone and go to the door to get pizza or go to the bathroom and she would pass by and Bucky would call her, “Hey, Y/N! How’s it going?” And she swore she would talk to Steve about setting boundaries but then Steve never really listened.
It’s been almost two years since the last time she saw Bucky and he still looks so dashingly handsome and his eyes are still as blue as the ocean. Bucky hugs her and murmurs, “God, I missed you!” And she grunts at how tight the hug is. It’s warm and comfortable and she knows she misses him too, but it’s not like that anymore. They lock eyes for a moment and only the two of them know how much they mean to each other. It’s appalling to think about how she thought she would die of a broken heart but then here she is, surviving and staring at the man who she thought killed her.
“Life on an island does you good, Sergeant Barnes,” she comments.
Bucky gives her the kindest and most genuine smile. “Life is much easier when I learn to accept the apology I never got.”
Steve knows, he’s always known that Bucky and Y/n had shared some moments in their life, but Steve also knows that the moments are theirs to keep and Steve would never intrude.
The three of them know; every moment in their lives happened for reasons. Although things change, feelings change and circumstances change, it doesn’t make those moments less true. It was true at one point of their lives, and will always be for as long as they hold onto it.
The wedding is beautiful, intimate and fairy tale-like without looking like they’re trying hard, just like Bucky thought Steve’s wedding would be like. White roses and fairy lights are everywhere, jazzy love songs are played by the live band, and really that’s all it takes to build a crazy romantic ambience.
As the best man, he holds the rings. She walks down the short aisle under the stars in the backyard of Steve’s house where he (and practically Bucky too) grew up, her arms are enveloped to Nick’s, his eyes already welled up before they even took the first step. The song is a classic Canon, Steve is standing, looking so handsome, proud and content.
They exchange vows, not too cheesy, a little funny and so wholeheartedly genuine, and Steve tears up just like Bucky expected. Bucky gives him the ring and a big hug, whispering in his ear, “So, very happy for you, pal.” Steve tears up again. They kiss and everyone cheers, it’s a wedding of the century, or so Bucky thinks.
And then it’s time for Bucky to finally make a toast.
“Steve and Y/N…” Bucky begins. “I don’t know where to start… To be honest, I spent countless hours scribbling what to say at this wedding. As the best man, I’m sure the pressure is high. But I didn’t get to write anything… So here I am, winging it. Hope I’m not too drunk yet.”
The crowd laughs in the background, Steve rolls his eyes.
“I’ve known Steve since we... '' Bucky squints his eyes, “forever. I’ve known him forever—, anyway, Steve is the most amazing, wonderful, kindest, sweetest, most intelligent human being I know. And he’s also a little shit.” The crowd burst in laughter.
“He’s so fucking stubborn, annoyingly naive and over-dramatic sometimes. When I was nine, I broke my arm— my left arm. It was gone for good anyway, so I don’t have any proof.” Bucky waves his left robotic arm, the crowd laughs again, oh they love him. “I had to wear cast on my arm for weeks and Steve, who by the way was skinniest little kid you’d ever seen, brought my books to the school, every fucking day. One day he didn’t show up at my class after school. I thought he was fed up with the books, or me, but then I looked for him and he was beaten up by bigger kids, and there was a little puppy there. Those assholes were bullying the poor little lost puppy and yes, Steve being Steve, called them off and got his lips split. I know Steve. Even if it wasn't a dog, even if it was a caterpillar, or an ant, he would still do the same. I think that was the moment I realized, he’s not just another human on this earth, he’s Steve Rogers, a good person. So if he stayed with me, if he loved me, it meant I’m good too. During my darkest time behind the enemy line, I would remember that Steve Rogers thought I was good.” Bucky’s eyes are soft.
There’s a choir of “Awwww” follows. “I always thought nobody in this world deserved Steve Rogers, that is until I met Y/N.” Bucky turns his gaze at her. She smiles at him, thankful.
“Look at her. She’s so gorgeous it’s almost a crime! And if you know her, her heart…. She has the biggest and kindest heart. And thank God, she had that eye issue when she was with Steve, because come on, that’s the only explainable reason she wanted this punk, right?”
Steve mouths you jerk to Bucky. Bucky laughs, “I know… I know… all of you think Steve is like a Greek god with an insanely attractive ass, but seriously he wasn’t like this. I knew him since he was a scrawny little dude. And really… all my life, all I ever wanted… is just to see that scrawny little dude to be happy.” Bucky stares at Steve, his eyes starting to well up as Steve’s too. And then Bucky turns his gaze to her, she returns his gaze, they share the unspeakable connection over the one person that resembles love, Steve Rogers.
“I love you, Steve. And God, I’m so, so, so happy you met Y/N. I’m so fucking happy for you guys, I—” Bucky doesn’t finish because Steve hugs him and Bucky hugs him back, letting the microphone drop to the table beside him. They murmur “I fucking love you,” to each other.
Tony Stark then takes the microphone and says, “Ok, it’s my turn, and I wouldn’t be able to top that toast. Goddamnit, Barnes! And Y/N, if you wanna run and let these two boys get married instead, I think you still can. Just blink three times to me, sweetie, I’ll take it as a code.” The crowd laughs again and Tony continues joking for the next ten minutes.
Dr. Raynor is at the party, approaching Bucky and gives him a warm hug. “Did you receive my letter?” Bucky asks and she nods, “You wanna dance, James?” Bucky smiles and accepts the invite. He didn’t know his therapist is one hell of a dancer.
It’s funny how life takes them. Some time ago, they would think they’d die if a certain thing didn’t happen… but then it didn’t happen, and they didn’t die. Life still goes on, the earth still rotates. At the end of the day, the world still revolves whether they’re in it or not.
Bucky is standing by the bar, sipping his whisky, staring at how happy Steve looks, dancing with his wife. The two of them stare at each other like the other person hangs the moon. Bucky remembers how he thought fate did him bad, how time cheated on him, how she was being taken away from him. Looking at it now, Bucky is clear, she was never his to begin with, she was the one who taught Bucky how to really love someone, the one who brought Bucky back to Steve, the only constant in his life, the good that stands by him, so that he knows he is good too.
And Bucky will remember this moment forever, when he’s feeling content, relieved and truly happy.
