#JackedKirby - Thor Treasury Edition!!!! I thought this would be a perfect quick hitter on this Thors-day morning... the Marvel Treasury Editions were published from 1976-81 and were oversized reprinted comic books in a larger format. This was done for two reasons: 1) they had the material and wanted to reprint it so they can make more money off old product & 2) these larger format comics were now considered "periodicals" and could be sold in real magazine shops instead of just candy stores and other locations that only sold comics. Marvel was trying to tap into a new market of consumers, and these beautiful Treasury Editions were the best was to do it!!! These edition usually featured a mainstay character (Spidey, FF, Hulk, Thor, etc) in reprinted adventures that were almost double the size... which is incredible in its own right. But they also featured something real cool: newly drawn wraparound covers! These new covers are epic, and loaded with really great images that really pop off the page!! This wrap around comes from #Issue3 which was published in late 1974. It reprints key issues from the mid 120s -130s of the books run. It featured an awesome red hued cover shot of Thor doing a fly by over Asgard complete with the rainbow Bi-Frost Bridge in a classic Kirby pose. The back page features a huge Thor looming over a kneeling Donald Blake as he strikes his cane into the ground to complete the transition!!! Beautiful... I really love this battered version of the cover too. Gotta nother comic haul. I’m now mainly collecting treasury editions (and a few comics of course 😆) what’s cool about the treasury editions are the back covers. Love the Peter Parker/spidey half face art. Just like in the movie! 😱 now, to find bags for these.
