finally (finally) writing again, so have a snippet as a treat:
“No more burying bodies in my garden, Kaz.” “I agree, dissolving them in lye is a much more thorough disposal method,” a voice said mildly from behind them. Both boys whipped around to see Marya strolling sedately down the hall. Wylan was momentarily distracted from the conversation at the sight of his mother looking every bit the poised mercher’s wife out for a casual walk along the Geldstraat. Her light summer dress was pressed and tied, not a hair was out of place under her perfectly pinned hat, and she carried a closed parasol in her lace-gloved hands. In short, she was just how he remembered her from his childhood. Then her words registered, and he couldn’t do anything but blink in shock. “I’ve appreciated the extra fertilizer, of course. My flowers have never looked so lovely. But it scares the gardener, and I’m sure we all have better things to do than deal with the nuisance of a murder inquest.” Wylan stared. His mother sounded for all the world like she was discussing the minor inconvenience of dodging muddy boots in the front hallway on her way out the door, not the pros and cons of burying bodies in her flowerbeds. …wait a minute. He knew that lye dissolved bodies, but why did she know that? Kaz’s only indication that he was giving the suggestion some thought was a cocked head. “I will take that under advisement, Mrs. Hendricks.” “Kaz, how many times have I told you to call me Marya?” Wylan’s mouth dropped open in astonishment as Kaz smiled. “As always, one time less than I need to learn the lesson, Mrs. Hendricks.”
and if I said that the smallest man who ever lived is marya about van eck... then what
I just love the idea of Marya, Alys, Colm and Inej’s parents having a tea party together
Imagine if Marya and Colm both take a strong liking to Kaz. He helps Wylan get Marya settled into a nice home before she’s ready to move back into the Van Eck mansion. He visits to make sure she’s doing okay, and he sends the Dregs as security for her. He also visits Colm often, helping him with his Jurda business so he makes a little extra money. He’s a natural on the farm and Colm is always grateful to get his help.
The two all but adopt Kaz as their own child. Which makes both Jesper and Wylan jealous that their boyfriend’s parent seems to like Kaz more than them. It’s not true of course. Marya loves painting in the gardens with Jesper, loves how he can make her new colours out of flowers. She loves how happy Wylan is when he’s with Jesper, how he has a special smile reserved just for Jesper. And Colm loves when Wylan and Jesper come to visit. He loves quiet nights by the campfire when Wylan plays his flute to accompany Colm’s guitar. He’s never seen Jesper that happy, not since Aditi passed away, and he knows he has Wylan to thank.
Idk where I’m going with this, all I know is Kaz has two sets of parents now because Colm, Marya and Inej’s parents all unofficially adopt him.

[creation 1]
There were a few reasons people came to Ketterdam, and money, escape, and opportunity were most of them.
“I will make you queen of everything you see, I’ll put you on the map, I’ll cure you of disease.”
Heart of Stone from Six the musical is Marya Hendricks theme song. No I’m not listening to it and crying as I imagine her singing it to Wylan to get him to fall asleep on her last night at the mansion.
I’m absolutely not sobbing thinking about Wylan playing the tune on his flute or humming it idly all the time and wondering what it is until Nina sings him a little part and it clicks that his mother used to sing it to him so he gets Nina to sing the whole song for him and he weeps like I’m definitely not doing right now.
