Headcanons: Baby Tiefling

My headcanons on tiefling development/anatomy, specifically infant tiefling, because the idea of tiny, kitten-like tieflings was too adorable to resist!

I had to reference so many sphinx kittens. Wrinkly, squishy babies <3

Horn Buds Horn tissue starts growing from birth, but bone doesn't start to develop until 2-3 months

Loose Skin As babies, tiefling have prominent scruff until right (around) 3 years of age. Depending on the variant of tiefling, some parts of the skin might still remain loose to help the body remain flexible while running and jumping. (Other spines, spikes, and ridges will start to show as the body fills into its loose skin.)

Tail Variety The development and grwoth of a tiefling's tail depends vastly on the individual it belongs to! Spikes, spines, and other bone growth might grow at the same rate as their horns, but some don't develop until puberty (and some don't grow anything more than the initial tail bone at birth).

OTHER - Ears remain soft & folded until about 2-3 months as well (ref horn buds) - Eyes will remain closed 1-2 weeks after birth - Tiny claws develop at birth, but they remain soft for the first few weeks - Infant tiefling might also be referred to as tiefling cubs or kittens! - That's (the drawing) baby Marzio!

Meet the triplets! I let the delusions win!

Sabah, the eldest. Carmelo, the middle. Abel, the youngest. Three healthy baby boys!

A little lore drop about Marzio. He really, really wants a family! Specifically, he wants a family he can love, nurture, and NOT slaughter. It’s his one goal in life, and he would be devastated beyond imagination if this future was taken from him. So naturally, the triplets are conceived before anyone *cough* Jaheira *cough* can make Marzio paranoid his future children will be Bhaalspawn with horrible urges like he once had.

In his epilogue, he gets his happy family! He did get a bit more than he bargained for (in one go, at least) with triplets instead of a single. But Marzio probably cried tears of joy every single time he looked at his babies for the first week after their birth. He’s a very, very happy papa!

Gortash is in over his head though, and he has no idea how he got here! But you bet I have more planned for how Gortash handles fatherhood 🫵! You bet I’ll be posting more art for this asap!

Marzio & Gortash Epilogue (Part 1)

I just think it would be neat if redeemed Marzio and Gortash moved to Reithwin after defeating the Netherbrain. It’s a city that’s rebuilding and recovering from its atrocities. A recovering, messed up place for recovering, messed up people! They would fit right in, and Gortash can get some much, much needed therapy. Poetic <3

My confession is that as Marzio’s durge run developed, I decided he wasn’t a natural blonde… it’s just blood staining his naturally white hair. Whether the stains got there during the 10+ years as Bhaal’s Chosen or from his time under Kressa Bonedaughter’s capture, idk. Maybe both.

During a breakdown in Act 3, Halsin helped with washing, dematting and moisturizing Marzio’s hair. Special thanks to my gf for hair care references for Marzio’s hair type (3a-3b) 💕 I didn’t know honey could be a hair moisturizer! Halsin 100% would use that on Marzio’s hair!

1 and 24 for the durge asks?

After Marzio had baby's first murder spree, he wandered around Rivington terrified, sobbing, and confused... until he was picked up by Father Lorgan. Knowing Baldur's Gate's history with Bhaalspawn, I feel like Father Lorgan immediately had a suspicion of what Marzio was. Sending Marzio to an orphanage would most likely be a death sentence for the young child, so he decided to raise him in the Open Hand Temple. Maybe he could teach him to do good rather than evil.

At this point in time, Marzio did tell Father Lorgan his name was "the Dark Urge". Father Lorgan tried Urge, but Marzio was adamant this was incorrect (in the way only toddlers are). So, they compromised on Durge as a virtue name.

Marzio would learn the Way of the Open Hand here alongside Ilmater's teachings. Father Lorgan was not supposed to do that. Ilmatari priests do this thing where they enter the minds of those wanting to join their ranks, and they immediately deny those who have evil or harmful intentions. As the Dark Urge, I think it was pretty clear what he might have seen in Marzio's mind.

But Father Lorgan wanted the best for Marzio, and Brilgor said, “He was kinder than most”. He hoped the control and balance of an Open Hand monk would aid him against his urges. For a while, it did.

He was trained in martial arts, herbalism, anatomy, and other forms of healing & alchemy. Unfortunately, all things that would aid his assassin and Bhaalist ambitions later in life. In the end, it was a good call; these things saved Marzio's life—and the world.

Marzio would then receive clerical powers after his amnesia.

Marzio's treasured item are his holy ropes, a symbol of devotion to Ilmater. Even after he abandoned the Open Hand Temple for the Temple of Bhaal, he just couldn't seem to let them go.

After waking up with amnesia, he saw them around his wrists and figured he must have worshiped Ilmater before the Nautiloid. He was half right. He was very confused at the Bhaalist tattoo on his arm paired with these holy ropes to say the least.

2) Who's your OCs best friend? How did they become best friends?

Marzio: Isobel!

She was the first to really acknowledge that he “has fits of madness” as worded before he knew he was a Bhaalspawn. She could see it in his eyes, and he felt seen for the first time. They’ve been besties ever since.

Khes: Astarion!

I haven’t gotten far into my playthrough with Khesbedj, but Astarion seems to be their ‘doing evil behind everyone’s backs’ buddy. They, unfortunately, haven’t gotten to the point where they care for their party emotionally. It’s all “what can they provide for me”. But Astarion is the closest thing they have to a friend beyond usefulness.

14) Who's a character your OC cannot stand! It's on sight when they see them!

Marzio: Ketheric!

Marzio has never liked Ketheric. The third wheel he never asked for. Now he's sitting on Marzio's throne?!? He's trying to kidnap Isobel?!? Hell no! Marzio means "he who is war-like", so Ketheric feels like a replacement. Not even Orin actually replacing him insults Marzio more than Ketheric's entire existence (at least by he and Gortash's side as a Chosen). The hate 100% remains after Marzio obtains amnesia.

Khes:

I think Khes has killed everyone they dont like, so I can't think of any. They haven’t met Halsin yet, but maybe Halsin at first? As they redeem themself, they’ll like Halsin more. Dame Aylin maybe? They might kill Isobel. We'll see when they get there.

27) What's their spirit tamagotchi? Or an animal you associate them with?

Marzio:

Tamagotchi - Maskutchi Animal: Leopard Seal (I even have this anthro I drew while hyperfixating on a furry au lol)

Khes:

Tamagotchi: Tamatchi Animal: Blue Dragon (if that counts lol; this is what their true form is outside of polymorph and slayer). Maaaybe a ringed lemur? I'd need to think about Khes's animal more
