Did a drawy of Kai Ninjago from the miniseries Monstrosity

Haven't drawn in a while either so this was fun

I love the fact that they went greyscale which only made the colors pop more when they were used for elemental powers.

Doesn't really have spoilers for the miniseries cause this was a drawing of a scene from the trailer.

Miniseries is a funny word.

Background was very rushed and had barely any effort put into it.

Headcannoned civvies for one of my favorite ninjas…

I think all his casual clothes are so worn and tattered. From a life of pinching pennies when his parent’s disappeared, he’s grown into the habit of holding onto old used clothes and hand me downs. Nya keeps telling him he needs to throw out his old clothes but he insists that the old ‘The Fold’ t-shirt from when he was 12 still fits. The ridiculous pink and orange socks Jay gave him as a gag gift are FINE! So what if there’s a hole in the toe? And NO the hole in his jeans are NOT getting larger, you’re imagining things!

But when it comes to dressing up nice for a date he’ll pick out his nicer clothes. He sometimes asks Nya for help if he’s having trouble putting together a good outfit. When he needs to dress for a formal events, he’s got one good suit that he keeps in good condition. (Nya has to help him with his tie)

He also always mixes silver and gold jewelry he’s picked up from the antique stores that Jay sometimes drag him into. He doesn’t understand how to actually pull off mixing them together. He just wears whatever he thinks looks cool plus his dad’s wedding band that he always wears. Nya doesn’t care to try to help him. Same goes for mixing a brown belt with black shoes.

Also, he absolutely HATES the cold you cannot convince me otherwise. Doesn’t matter if he’s the master of fire, he still hates dry winter weather. If he has to go outside he brings every damn layer he can find. He’s always wearing wayyyy too many sweatshirts and triple layering his socks. And then he complains about it being too hot lol.

And yes. Sometimes he’ll steal his sister’s winter accessories. Gloves/hats/scarf. He doesn’t care to buy his own. Nya constantly complains about it. Zane gave him proper winter gear of his own in his colors once and Kai still lost them. Nya’s kidna given up.

Bonus:

He wears only loose tees or long sleeve shirts and boxers to bed. (Usually the ones that are so tattered and worn he can’t wear them in public). He hates wearing anything too tight cuz it feels like he’s being strangled in his sleep. When it’s winter time his bed is piled in blankets to stay warm and he actually likes the weight some times.

In winter he’ll briefly throw on some some loose PJ pants if he has to walk around the monastery to grab something or for movie nights. But the second he’s slipping under his covers he’s taking them off. He doesn’t like how they bunch up around his knees. Huuuuuuuuge sensory ick.

Anywhoooooo that’s all I’ve got for Kai. Have fun ig ✌️
