A Random Ninjago Thought

Spoilers under the cut.

Okay, so with the new season of Dragons Rising having released last week I’ve been watching through it and with the reveal of Beatrix having been stranded in the Land of Monsters since the events of the season 1 finale, a thought occurred to me: Kai got off very, very lightly while he was stranded there.

Like, okay, to elaborate on my line of thought, think back to when Monstrosity was being advertised and theories were cropping up regarding the fate of the previous Elemental Master of Fire that was stranded there and what it could mean for Kai, particularly with this screenshot in mind:

And how it seems to detail the loss of humanity and subsequent transformation into another monster left to wander the land and fight for survival. I, like many others, thought that this would likely mean Kai would have to contend with potentially losing his humanity in his post-Merge environment, only for the miniseries to release and it instead be revealed the struggle was a more figurative example of fighting to maintain his humanity in such a hopeless situation.

…Now, fast forward to DR season 4 and the extended flashback at the beginning of Dying to Live, wherein we learn the full extent of Beatrix’s exile which shows that, no, the whole loss of humanity thing most assuredly isn’t a strictly metaphorical thing as she’s literally fused to her mech and gone onto assimilate other organic components as she fought for her life.

So, yeah, Kai was extremely lucky to get out of the Land of Monsters as quickly as he did and having done so with no (apparent) lasting alterations to his body and/or mind (though I do wish the writers would at least acknowledge his immediate post-Merge situation in the main series).
