I'm making another post to open up my commissions, since I've gotten more confident in my art and have plenty of time on my hands!
I will be limiting myself on how many commissions I take each month, and since this month is already halfway over, I will be taking a maximum of three commissions until June.
Here is all the basic info for my pricing!
Details regarding payment and deadlines for the art will be discussed privately.
hey remember that time i went off on DnD Spell Material Components?
..I remember:
if you’ll endulge me for a second, imagined reader who doesn’t exist, but “Material Components” make me go bantha poodoo. How about “Every Time You Swing A Sword, You Must Eat A Whole Egg and 1/5th Of A Pound Of Ground Beef (Oh, You’re Using An Axe? Ok, It’s Nutritional Components are A Piece Of Cheese The Size Of Your Fist And A Turkey Leg)”
...or “Not Only Keep Track Of Every Fucking Arrow You Have But Each Time You Fire An Arrow And Want To Pick It Up Later, Make a Arrowhead Saving Throw, Shaft Saving Throw (shut your mouth), and Three Separate Fletching Saving Throws To See If Any Of Them Take Damage And Thus Need Repairs Before They Are Usable Again (With Different Arrow Component Saving Throw Modifiers Depending On What The Arrow Hits Or If It’s A Miss What Kind Of Terrain It Eventually Hits).“
Why not keep track of how many footsteps your character can walk before they need a Big Meal with a high protein count but also vitamins A, B, C, Folic Acid, Guar Gum, Potasium, Etc etc fucking etc Otherwise There’s A Modifier.
Um, In Conclufiosn: If you’re going to make 1 character class’s Special Boy Spiffy Doo Powers require asinine micromanaging, why not everyone? Otherwise you’re playing favorites.
Regarding Fjord and the Material Components for his Summon Greater Demon spell,
this is what DnDBeyond says about Material Components:
Casting some spells requires particular objects, specified in parentheses in the component entry. A character can use a component pouch or a spellcasting focus (found in “Equipment”) in place of the components specified for a spell. But if a cost is indicated for a component, a character must have that specific component before he or she can cast the spell.
If a spell states that a material component is consumed by the spell, the caster must provide this component for each casting of the spell. A spellcaster must have a hand free to access a spell's material components -- or to hold a spellcasting focus -- but it can be the same hand that he or she uses to perform somatic components.
So, if the material component has a material cost, an Arcane Focus can not be used. It also states that if the component is consumed by the spell, it must be available so it can be read as needing the component instead of an Arcane Focus.
Now, the material component for Summon Greater Demon is:
* - (a vial of blood from a humanoid killed within the past 24 hours)
There is no cost, so the material component is not needed if an Arcane Focus is used.
In the description of the Summon Greater Demon spell, however, it states the following:
As part of casting the spell, you can form a circle on the ground with the blood used as a material component. The circle is large enough to encompass your space. While the spell lasts, the summoned demon can’t cross the circle or harm it, and it can’t target anyone within it. Using the material component in this manner consumes it when the spell ends.
The important thing to note is that this is optional. So had Fjord made the protective circle, he would need the blood, but Fjord has never done that. If his sword can be used as a spell casting focus, then as long as he isn't creating the protective circle, he does not need the blood as there is no material cost for it.
Materials components are usually included in a component pouch, but for a pouch that costs 25 gold, I highly doubt it includes the diamond dust needed for Greater Restoration, for example. For those who enjoy tracking inventory, and to make high level spells, while still castable, more precious, I recommend checking out this chart!
