One of the reasons I was put on this earth was to speak the truth and get folks to act right and do right by the people but to see the work credited and half-assed. By folks who will ultimately change the lives of millions of people in this city!!!!

hey thanks a whole lot, Swagbucks, for waiting until after everybody’s Black Friday sales to offer cash back on Etsy purchases for the first time in ages
I’m looking at some music I sang at a festival a few years ago, and came once again across Morten Lauridsen’s setting of the James Agee poem “Sure On This Shining Night.” This is a pleasure because this is easily one of my favorite choral works (and I have performed it with three different ensembles!), but more importantly, I think the poem is very apt for the time we find ourselves in now. Here is the text:
“Sure On This Shining Night” by James Agee
Sure on this shining night
Of starmade shadows round,
Kindness must watch for me
This side the ground.
The late year lies down the north.
All is healed, all is health.
High summer holds the earth.
Hearts all whole.
Sure on this shining night
I weep for wonder
Wand’ring far alone
Of shadows on the stars.
We are losing a lot of people to the coronavirus. Poetry like this is cathartic to me, and I hope for you too.
kindness must watch for us this side the ground
Interestingly, I think, right now, we are the kindness this side the ground. Because fear is pretty much ubiquitous right now, our human instincts to care for each other are showing. With these words in mind, I’m thinking more about the gift of life, even when it is short. Peace and love to everyone reading this omg im getting sentimental. stay safe. ❤
