Chapter Seven
Gah..... I’m so late with this chapter! I was aiming for Easter but I got bogged down by work, crochet and writers block. As always thank you to @purple-compromise and @tf2humbug for the use of their OCs. So well here it is. Enjoy 😊
She felt Sniper’s arm slide around her waist as Spy was talking about strategies once they had landed, it was comforting, warm but it was not like him to show affection in public, even in front the others. Specialist nudged Driver as they both noticed and gave each other amused looks.
“If we land at this air strip they won’t even know that we’re even in the area.” She said brushing his arm away and stepping forward to point out which she meant.
“Ain’t that one a little short for the plane that we have?” Scout asked sceptically.
“No it’s actually a long enough runway and the one thats closer they’d definitely know we’re coming.” She said pointing out the second. “And as Spy said the element of surprise is essential.” Spy gave her the smallest of nods in acknowledgment.
They continued planning for a little while longer before there was a loud ringing from the telephone on the wall and they all watched as Engineer answered it. “Yes... Right… I see…Yes… We’re on our way.” he said, Pilot recognised the voice on the other end. It was Andy one of her supply/flight crew, their rapid fire speech heightened from the sense of urgency, they must be calling that the other plane had landed. “Ok we know what we have to do. Pilot could you take two of the others with you in your car?” He said gathering up the map and other paperwork on the table. “Right then, any volunteers?” She said rubbing her hands together, none of them would look her in the eye. “Don’t all rush at once.”
“Oh for goodness sakes! I’ll go with you.” Specialist said exasperated sigh and glare. “Sniper, you too.” Pilot looked at him as he nodded.
Pilot helped load the back seat with the necessary equipment that Sniper and Specialist needed, reassuring them that any extra ammunition would be already at the plane. Just as the McMANN drew up beside them. Driver rolled down the window looking down at her with a sly smile.
“Think you can keep up?” She said.
“Well I don’t think I’ll disgrace my lessons that my uncle Mike gave me, though I’m probably not as good as you from what I’ve heard.” Pilot said getting in and starting up the engine.
They both turned into the airfield, to Driver’s pleasant surprise Pilot did drive well and was able to keep up.
“Holy Dooly! That’s some plane!” Sniper’s eyes widened at the sight of it in front of the hangar. “Well now that we’re here I suppose I better get changed into my proper uniform,” Pilot said parking by the small arrangement of buildings, along with the McMANN. “My crew will see about the McMANN and loading everything up. Why don’t you lot go and have a look around her.” Pilot then spotted who they’d drafted as the relief. “Jerry!” She squeaked, seeing Saxton’s former personal pilot walking towards them. “Well, well,” He said with a smile. “Little Jenny Wren got her wings back then?”
“Yeah, I did. Any chance you could Co. Pilot with me? It’s been a bit long since I flew something this large solo.” She said and started to walk with him into the building.
“Pauling said you might need a hand.” He said patting her on the back.
Guilty pleasures.
Every once in a while, Sara McMann does something to remind you that she can absolutely beat everybody in the division. It’s usually followed up by something to remind that she can absolutely lose to anybody in the division.
