The New Year Ghost’s Embrace Unity Gala
By Aspen Cartwright September 21st, 2018
The New York Ghost’s biennial gala is upon us once again, the theme of the event this year is ‘Embrace Unity’. It will be a night to celebrate and embrace the differences we each have. Like each year the event will feature a keynote speaker, dinner, and silent auction. This year instead of auctioning off prized artifacts, and rare magical objects. Attendees will instead have the opportunity to bid on some of the wizarding communities most eligible singles. In order to keep things more interesting, as well on theme each auction slow shall be kept anonymous save for a few key components about the date you’ll be bidding on.
Invites to the gala have been personally mailed out by Ms. Wilkinson-Stone to New York Elite, press, and ministry officials, and as always a limited number of invites set aside for the general public to be obtained on a first come first served basis. The NYG Gala to date remains New York’s most prestigious event, in which guests are expected to dress to nines. In the past guests who have arrived dressed down have been turned away at the door.
The venue theme and other details as usual will be a surprise. We’ll be there to bring you all the exclusives.

The head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement takes the stage. Tonights Gala was about Embracing Unity. Like most in top positions, they knew how important it was to have a unified team. The attendees started to quiet down as they start. “Sonorus. Welcome distinguished guests to the New York Ghost’s 2018 Gala. Let’s have a round of applause for Ingrid! Ingrid, you put together one hell of a night, oops, can I say that?” They say with a laugh. Then they get serious.
“As you are aware, this year’s theme is Embracing Unity. Something that, as many have pointed out, seems to be missing from the Wix Community. I know this situation seems unfair, and depending on your situation, it is. It’s unfair that a parent has to choose between magic and abandoning their child.” They pause a moment looking around the room. “It’s not fair that Wix are being forced to cut ties with their whole family because they happen to be No-Majs.”
“Embrace Unity...How can we embrace unity at a time like this? I think it is simple. Support your fellow Wix. Maybe this new law doesn’t impact you at all. Maybe you simply don’t want to get involved in politics.” They start to walk around the stage, taking control of the space they have been given and continue, “Now I’m not here to talk about the politics. I know that everyone has their reasons for whichever side they belong to, but as a community, we need to come together.”
While the head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement didn’t officially take a stance, those who knew of them knew that they longed for peace; for families to remain together. “We need to support those who risk being separated from their families. Show those in power that we are strong as a community; that our voice is strong and that we will not stand idly by while families are torn apart!” They speak with passion and confidence. “Apart we are weak, but together we can make a difference.”
“SONORUS!” A deep voice bellows. “You are ALL HYPOCRITES!” The voice says as many Wix in dark clocks apparate into the hall. “You come together in your fancy clothes and think that THIS is going to change ANYTHING?” The speaker looks around the crowd. “Embrace Unity! What a lie! How am I supposed to EMBRACE UNITY when my loved ones were OBLIVIATED?!” Anger. Hatred. Betrayal. “YOU ALL SHOULD PAY! PAY FOR VOTING PEOPLE LIKE THEM INTO POWER.”

🤣😈
🤣 A question my muse thinks is funny:
“Everyone looks so beautiful tonight, do you feel intimidated?” they ask curiously. Linden couldn’t help but burst into laughter as they shake their head, “No, no, of course not.”
😈 A question that makes the interview mad
They seem to dislike that response, a frown crossing their face, “Well, that’s very cocky, it’s not like you’re the most beautiful person in the world.” Linden smiles and raises a brow, “First I’m hearing of it. I designed half of these gowns, though, so, you know, you’re welcome for all this beauty I made, including me,” they wink before they turn and walk away.
😉, 😴, 🤔, 🤨
😉 A question where the interview is flirtatious:
“You look very good tonight,” they say, reaching out towards his arm, he doesn’t move, just looks down at their hand on his jacket, “Where did you get this?” they ask. He frowns and shrugs, “Um, some th-thrift store,” he says passively. He wasn’t half as put together as everyone else here, and he was starting to wonder if this was some joke as they stepped closer.
😴 A boring question:
They remove their hand from his elbow, their eyes intently on his as his aren’t on theirs, “Are you a big fan of these sorts of events?” they ask. Cole shrugs and frowns, “Um, n-not really, I-I was just ex-expected to be-be here, I guess,” he says passively.
🤔 A thought-provoking question:
“Why did you choose to come to America and not another country? Do you believe it’s due to the special relationship between the countries?” they ask. It was a fairly good question, though Cole knew part of the answer he’d have to conceal, “W-well, um, part of-of the reason is, um, cl-classified, I-I suppose. I m-mean, there w-were a few-few factors, but, um, I-I suppose that c-could be one of-of the r-reasons, sure.”
🤨 A question that is personal / rude:
They pout slightly, leaning into him even more, “You’re not here for a girl, perhaps? That would be so beautiful, travelling to another country to spend the rest of your days with someone you love,” they say dreamily. Cole raises a brow and frowns, “U-uh, yes, I-I’m quite s-sure of that, um, th-there’s, um, I don’t, uh,” he clears his throat, “Th-that’s not my-my purpose f-for being in-in the country.”
🤔, 🙄, 😈, 😥
🤔 A thought-provoking question:
“Do you think MCUSA is wasting man power on observing no maj wizards when we could be focusing on those who are more historically threats to our safety? Namely, other wizards?” they ask plainly. It was a very good question, all things told. Adam had to take a moment to separate the true answer from the one he was meant to give. “We allocate our resources to adequately assess threats, it is never a waste of man power to protect our citizens,” he responds curtly, his tone rehearsed.
🙄 A question where the interviewer doesn’t care / like my muse
Obviously, that answer hadn’t satisfied them. Adam can see the reluctance in their shoulders as they respond, “Well, it’s obvious you care about your job,” they mutter. Adam adjusts his shoulders, “Do you care about yours?” he asks, his tone sharp.
😈 A question that makes the interview mad
“What kind of question is that?” they snap back, and Adam smirks faintly, “I would think you’d recognize a leading question in your line of work,” Adam responds in turn. He can nearly see their face turning red.
😥 A question that hurts my muse’s feelings:
“Are you always such a miserable person? I suppose that would explain why you’re alone,” they say, clearly letting the feeling get the best of them. Adam’s smirk falters, and he inhales sharply, “As far as you know,” he says, shrugging both shoulders in an attempt to pretend he doesn’t care before he walks away to the next interviewer.
😉
😉 A question where the interview is flirtatious:
“Well, you look absolutely stunning tonight,” they say, reaching out a hand cautiously, Linden nods extending their arm, “Touch this skin, touch all of this skin,” they enthuse with a laugh.
