Lan Xichen is usually calm and collected, but hearing people talk negatively about Jiang Cheng really bothers him, especially when it's to paint him as a villain. He eventually gets angry and defends him when it's Lan Wangji talking shit.
Similarly, if Jiang Cheng thinks someone is crossing Lan Xichen's boundaries, he will spit venom at them because while Lan Xichen is polite, Jiang Cheng is not.
Lan Xichen is the only person who knows how Jiang Cheng lost his core.
Lan Xichen asks Jin Ling's "permission" before courting Jiang Cheng.

Does anyone have any theories about why Jiang Cheng doesn't call Wei Wuxian by his birth name? I'm pretty sure there's a very distinct reasoning behind it but I can't quite see it. Maybe because when WWX first came into his life Jiang Cheng refused to accept his as his brother and that's why he set this distance between them? But it doesn't make much sense since the official name is given to a person much later in their life, at about 12-15 years, so JC should've called him Wei Ying for at least half their childhood, so I really don't get why he switched gears. Because his mother told him to not be too familiar with a person who is technically below him in status? Yet Jiang Yanli and Jiang Fengmian don't have this problem.

After the fight, angrily, reader went the forest without informing anyone and Lan Wangji gets deeply concerned for her. He searches for her everywhere and in the forest, reader gets into some trouble but Lan Zhan saves her in time. In anger, reader said some hurtful words something like, "why are you here? I'm nothing to you, you shouldn't save me etc" and he becomes so angry on the fact that she doesn't understand his feelings for her and how much he loves her and protective of her, so he takes her to a nearby cave and makes love to her and also confess his feelings for her. Zewu Jun and you were walking through the corridors of Cloud Recess, after you helped him take a musical lesson for the instrument using cultivation students. He was now walking you to your quarter. "Zewu Jun is just very kind," you said, smiling.
What you didn't notice was Lan Wangji walking by another parallel corridor, who was headed towards you two and heard two juniors discussing "Zewu Jun and Ln Guniya look so good together" one said. "Look at the way they smile at each other, what a cute pair". Wangji gritted his teeth as his palm tightened around Bichen.
"Zewu Jun, Shifu is calling you urgently," Wangji said. "Well, I was walking Ln Guniya back to her chambers-" Zewu Jun tried to speak, but was interrupted by Wangji "I'll do it" he said. You mentally thanked the heavens that there was nobody around. He looked straight at you and you asked "Are you angry with me?". "Mn" he said, turning to restart walking, now it's your turn to get angry so you do the best thought that comes to your mind, you use your brother's binding talisman and catch his left wrist, stopping him in his tracks. "Lan Wangji, you can't just say Mn and walk away. That's not how things work, why are you even angry? I arrived yesterday and was in a class with Zewu Jun the whole morning" you said. "Reason" he simply said, "What? Because I was with Zenu Jun?" You repeated and he looked away and said "Mn" he responded. "You're really testing my patience here. Wangji, why would you be angry because I was with Zewu Jun, he is your brother" he said. "Can't stay close to Zewu Jun" he said, and it seriously frustrated you. Why would he say that? He has never reacted to your romantical advances. He always retracted his hand if you placed yours even a little close to his, he has never invited you to meals or even tea, he never even sits beside you during meals, he has made it clear that he isn't romantically interested in you so why? It's not like you were hitting on Zewu Jun. "You really frustrate me Lan Wangji" you said and walked away.
"How can he be so insensitive like this?'' You spoke to yourself as you paraded inside the room. "Uh" you said, finally being done and feeling suffocated and left your room, walking start towards the forest shortcut you found the last time you came that led to a lake just outside the periphery of Cloud Recess, it wasn't that far, but you could easily return before curfew. You made the walk for it, you reached the lake and took off your shoes and dipped your feet in the water, you lied back down to watch the pretty sky. The cold water was relaxing after the whole day.
What you underestimated was your fatigue and before you realised you dozed off to sleep and how quick warm afternoons in Gusu can change to cold evenings.

We searched around the premises, she wasn't here".. as soon as Zewu Jun and Wangji heard, they stood up. "Never late" Wangji informed Zewu Jun "something must have happened" Zewu Jun said and summoned some disciples to immediately go look for you.
"Brother, I'll go" Wangji said and went off, he quickly asked your attendant to bring your Pipa. He got out a tracking talisman and used it in the Pipa.

When you opened your eyes, you sat straight up, you legs were numb from the water that was now freezing cold. "Gods!" You exclaimed, as you had to physically pull your legs out. You tried to get up but could not, your legs needed time. Suddenly you heard some weird sounds from a close by bush. When you looked you noticed motion, that looked like 3 walking corpses. You were done for, you can't run because you have hills on two sides and the now closed protective walls of Cloud Recess and the only exit was were they are arriving from. You looked around and realised you didn't even bring you pipa when you left your chamber.
Is this how you'll die? You won't even be able to see Wangji one last time before you pass! Would it hurt? Will you vecome one of them? You hoped Wangji killed you before you hurt someone else or-
Your chain of thoughts was interrupted by a sharp sound. A sound you've heard so many times when you joined Wangji and your brother on Night Hunts. A wisp of white came flying and stood between you and the walking corpses. One more strike of the guqin and they were down dead (well, more dead than they previously were)
"Are you okay?" Wangji looked at you on the ground and pulled you up. You felt glad to see him for a moment, only to remember what he'd down back then. You removed your hand from his and went off on him. "Why are you here? It's not like you care about me? Why are you here?! And why did you sav-" you were yet again interrupted by more sounds of grunts and you both look to see the 3 corpses up again and 3 more arriving. "No time, poisonous corpse" Wangji said and in one fast move he literally swept you off your feet and picked you up bridal style and ran. You tried to resist but none of that effected Wangji. He entered a cave with you in his arms and placed you down on the cave ground. He then put a few protective talisman, to guard the gate.
"I refuse to stay here a minute with you" you said and stood up. In a blink of your eye Wangji was infront you and he pushed you aginst the cold wall of the cave towering infront of your short shape, you craned your neck to look at him.
"Zha- Lah-Lan Zhan! What are you doing?" You asked.
Wangji looked at you and you felt like you'd melt right then and there. "Show Y/n my love" he said and crashed his lips onto yours. This was a foreign feeling to you. The way he devoured your lips and you reciprocated felt like sparks. You felt a fire in the pits of your stomach or below. He asked you "trust me?" Looking deep into your eyes, and all you could do was shake your head. He slowly slid your outer robe and you did the same for him. Slowly all the layers came off, you found yourself tracing his chest with your hands, it was more toned that you imagined.
As the layers were now off, he slowly sat down on the cave floor and pulled you on his lap. You loved how your small body fit with his. "So pretty" he said as he kissed your neck and sucked on the skin, making you moan. "Mine" he said before he went further south but holding you up by your ass. "Lan Zhan~" you moaned as his mouth took your hard nipple into his mouth. If there was heaven on earth, it was here right now for you. He slowly laid you down and climbed on top of you, covering your whole body with his. He looked at you for permission, which you granted and his hands reached your wet core. His touch felt like fire, he slowly reached down and drew circles around you clit, making you moan his name harder.

The two of you lied beside each other and suddenly you said "didn't we do a taboo?! Lan Zhan did you break rules?!" You whisper yelled. "Not in Cloud Recess" he said asuring you. "Still be did a taboo" you said, but he just wrapped his arms around you and said "mine". "Why were you behaving that way then?" You finally asked the question that has been lirking on your mind. "Y/n was with Zewu Jun, Juniors said you both looked good" he said pouting. You wanted to squish his cheeks "Was Lan Zhan jealous?" You asked, only to get a "Mn" in response that melted your heart. "I'm yours, I can't be or even think about anyone else" you said.
Wangji suddenly turned and started kissing you hugrily, but you pushed him away and strandled him and started kissing him. He pulled you on his lap and this time made you ride him until the two of you came and lied down with you on top of him, in his arms and the two of you fell asleep. Tiredness took over you as you both found comfort in each other.

"First Ln Guniya was missing now even Wangji is mossing with her" Zewu Jun said pacing around, he hoped Wangji atleast found you before any harm could happen to either of you. That was when they saw Wangji riding in on Bichen with Y/n on his back. You attendants rushed to you as soon as they sae you. You explained how you went for a walk and then fell asleep and how later Wangji saved you. Wangji told them how you two had to spend the night in a cave as the Corpse were poisonous.
"I'm happy you both are safe, please refrain from going on walks around the gate closing time. Even for two people who are supposed to be bethrowed, they shouldn't spend nights together before wedlock" Zewu Jun said.
"Bethrowed?" You repeated. "Yes, you and Wangji are to be bethrowed soon, I proposed the offer and your brother said you accept" he said and you just nodded and said "sorry I'm just tired" and thus Zewu Jun asked you to go rest. You turned to your attendants and said "He was serious about that question. I thought when Wuxian asked about the marriage, he was joking! I'll kill that-" you were interrupted yet again by the love of your life, who came to back hug you one last time before you both part. Before releasing you he mumbled one word into you ears, "MINE".

Perhaps it might be of some use to some of your followers as a starting point for some background reading?

It’s always upsetting when people read a chinese danmei and then refuse to engage or even understand that it is not an western story or american or christian. It is bizarre to come across ‘thanksgiving AUs’ or fics about the ‘magic of Christmas’ and for people not to realize how utterly tone-deaf they are.
Maybe it’s because I’m used to reading fiction that is not about me or that American books are just as much of a ‘foreign work’ that a Japanese Light Novel would be or a Chinese danmei, but I’m used to stepping out of my comfort zone while being aware of the limitations in my knowledge. I don’t pretend to know what I don’t and I don’t rewrite what I don’t know to fit my world view. Give the works of other cultures the basic respect they deserve while also keeping your own thoughts and opinions and developing them.
I’ve seen a take that my Lan post is me claiming that No Criticism Is Allowed Ever which 1- is not what I said and 2- is also not true. I come across plenty of racism from the author while reading fiction, ive read danmei with fatshaming, Islamophobia, extreme nationalism, classism and so on. These things exist and can exist in any work written by a human, and the point isn’t to mindlessly defend it all or hate it all. But at least read what is in front of you and not reaffirm what is already in your head. Especially when it’s a culture and place that is unfamiliar to you.
He's exhaustingly hyper active. He bullies people at school and gets them in trouble just for funsies. He breaks rules just because. He sasses back and disrupts classes and conferences. MXTX didn't intend for us to read him like this, he was meant to be the hero, the moral compass that everyone else should follow. WWX and LWJ are meant to be the moral ideals. He is a hero ❤️

Firstly, he's not exhaustingly hyperactive. He can be calm and steady when he needs to be. But even so, his energy is infectious and endearing. I don't usually bother with this stuff, but because you asked so nicely, I will hand your ass to you on a plate answer your question.
You are calling WWX a bully because of the way he treated 'people' - who?! Unless you are referring to LWJ...Which wasn't bullying - it was teasing, because, and this might shock you.. but, he FANCIED him!!! Subconsciously, yes, I know. But he was acting like a lot of silly boys do with their crush. He just wanted his attention, and when he didn't get it - he teased, because getting a reaction out of him was at least something. It was harmless teasing. WWX would not bully anyone, he's empathetic and sweet natured. If he thought he'd actually upset LWJ, he'd stop. Oh, and apparently he only gets people in trouble for 'funsies'... If you're refering to when LWJ got disciplined as well, that was his choice, WWX didn't expect him to actually do it! It's a pivotal point in their relationship!!! Firstly, as soon as he realised that LWJ was about to punish himself as well, he tried to stop it all and take the full punishment himself. He was horrified LWJ was about to be hit also. After this, when he saw him in the cold springs he couldn't help but gush over how much he admired him. Because, WWX has always taken the punishment himself. It's always just been just him and he's always thought it was unfair. It's a poignant moment.

The conference...He only disrupted a conference because he wanted to know where the Wen refugees were. Sorry you think that the lives of innocent people should wait till the end of the conference...
'He murders people' - okay... Well he did, but it was revenge. His whole entire sect was brutally annihilated. He was left to DIE in the burial mounds, a period in his life so awful the author refused to write about it because it would be too depressing. There are a lot of hints throughout the novel that it was mentally and physically torturing for WWX. He was there three months. Three whole months of absolutely god knows what. Fighting for his life, fighting to control the awful things that resided there and fighting to become more powerful - all while recovering from having his golden core ripped out of him not long before. So excuse him if he's a little bit peed off. Excuse him if he kills the absolute psychopaths that caused the whole thing. He lost control and killed people, yes, but this was in self-defence and he was pushed so much he couldn't control his emotions or the corpses. Sorry he was so traumatised he couldn't keep control...
'He shows off' - I think someone is jealous 😂 He's confident in his abilities, he's worked hard to get where he is. If you're referring to the time he took one third of the prey from the competition on Phoenix Mountain, he only did this because he can't stand JZX and his showing off. He wanted to bring him down a peg or two. And he did, in the most epically understated, yet cool way. He's protective of his shijie and still holds a grudge for JZX's rude behaviour back at the CR.
'He's oblivious to others and when/how he hurts them.' - He's the most empathetic, caring person in the novel, as I said earlier. Yes, there are misunderstandings - that's another major point of the novel - but he never intentionally hurts others. He isn't aware of LWJ's true feelings, due to so many different factors I'm not even going to explain. He is always trying to make others happy and respect their feelings. He even tries to get on with JZX for his shijie in the end. If he's ever hurt anyone, it was due to lack of communication from both parties. And the minute he realises he's hurt someone, he always tries to clear it up.
'He gets everyone awesome killed' - .... Who? You mean the mass murderers, the psychopaths and the general villains of the story? If you mean his own Sect, that wasn't his fault and this would have happened regardless. It was only a matter of time before the Wen Sect came and annoyed them either way.

It's still him because I know what it feels like to constantly be put down by others and developing serious issues over it. Going into detail about all the reasons I relate to him so much would get too long but let's just say I get the feeling of wanting to make someone feel how they made you feel. I also relate to him cause he wants Lan Xichen to fuck him and honestly don't we all?

he absolutely spoils his pokemon and doesn't like to make them fight! would make a great coordinator 👀👀
sizhui & jingyi both had normal starters, since the lan sect (pkm clan??) didn't let them interact with their own pokemon until they were of age.
sizhui's just out here to catch bunnies ngl, but he saw sobble and cooed over it for a while before snatching that pkm up 😩

jin ling gets a lucario somewhere along the way for his goal of making his uncle proud of him 😩 jingyi gets a couple of eggs (that zizhen and sizhui end up caring for), but he also has a thing for dragon types and catches a dratini
i think jl and ljy are the ones who are trying to become pokemon trainers/masters, sizhui is vibin (and researching pokemon !!) while zizhen is just along for the ride--until he find pokemon coordinating and falls in love with it

Do you think that Huaisang included in his plan ( vaguely or not ) for WWX to return not just because he needed him for his plan, but also because he thought it would be nice to have his old friend back? I personally like to think that while NHS wouldn't go that far just for WWX, when it appeared it could benefit his plan he was genuinly happy for Wei-xiong to have another chance. Especially since he probably knew he wasn't evil and that sth else was going on, sth JGY benefited from
It's possible. I usually see it more as he believed in wei wuxian. Jin guangyao, for all his talk of having no power or ability to do anything, was nigh untouchable at this point. He had the sects clean under his thumb. It would 100% take someone pretty much unaffiliated with any sect to move right under his nose. And who better than wei wuxian to fix a problem that involved the dead? Who better than the man with endless curiosity, unable to leave anything alone, to relentessly chase down his brother's missing parts while keeping him from wreaking havoc?
Belief in wwx's ability aside though, I do think it was partially personal. Out of everyone, huaisang believed that LWJ and WWX would do the right thing, no matter who the opposing party was. He believed that they were the two people with the courage, the audacity, and the heart to step up and call out the chief cultivator. Huaisang believed that they would judge someone's merit based on what they knew about them rather than their reputation. Those are the boys he remembers, the ones he attended classes with.
So I think, rather than nostalgia, it was faith in wwx's character that made nhs turn to him. That and no small amount of grief and momentary madness. I've said it before and I'll say it again, huaisang held that plot together with tape and prayers at some point. Trusting the half brother of the man he inteded to kill with the details of his plot, giving him the idea then hoping? Tape. And. Prayers. I'm not discounting nostalgia. In his grief, it probably did comfort huaisang to bring back a familiar presence. And it probably did give him some satisfaction to know that he would help this man regain his life and find justice. But I think the main reason was faith--faith in wwx's abilities and his strong values. Faith that wwx would be able to do what nhs couldn't either because it simply was beyond his capabilities or because he was frightened and backed into a corner. Huaisang remembered a boy who was steadfast and creative, strong in all the ways huaisang wanted to be. He banked on that
