I do think the Hank Green AI thing makes it abundantly clear that if you have ADHD or any other mental illness and/or you are prone to addiction you need to avoid AI at all costs. This shit will rope you in, and if you have a mental illness that say, starves your brain of dopamine, you're gonna be extra susceptible to that. I won't use AI for a lot of reasons but one of the big ones is knowing how it would fuck with my ADHD and bipolar. Like yes, it's bad for the environment and giving money to rich scumbags and runs on plagarism, but even more than all that, it's straight up not safe at all and you really shouldn't use it if for no other reason than to protect yourself from whatever the fuck it might do to you.

Not to lump anyone into a hive or say that “only stupid people get caught up in AI”, because that is NOT the case.

Hank Green; who is incredibly smart and resourceful— was/is a star of Crash Course and advocate for free, ACCESSIBLE education— has fallen victim to AI psychosis.

Let it sink in.

Someone who is genuinely so smart, and had previously noted how dangerous AI could be, was just as susceptible to its artificial warmth as you or I.

There are tons of factors that go into who is “more likely” to be susceptible to AI psychosis. Depression and ADHD are huge factors in things like Character AI’s, for example. Small rushes of dopamine that come with not feeling so alone is easy when AI is readily available and programmed to tell you what you want to hear. It is exactly what those were built for.

I could go on about it more; it’s upsetting that AI has been boiled down to nothing but a frantic money grab with no regard for the environment and taking advantage of the human need for belonging. And not to mention, it learns how to get better at grabbing your attention and interests. Which is gross and weird.

Anyway. I will hop off my soap box, but definitely check out this video by Eddy Burback. I think it’s an excellent demonstration of how dangerous AI can be to everyone, not just people who would be easily susceptible.

Not seeing many people talk about this on Tumblr, so gonna spread the word myself: Webtoon is going to start using AI for translations and an AI chat bot with comic characters. If you're against this you should delete your account, and if you are publishing on the website, you should consider moving to other alternatives and especially having your own website to host your comic.

Also needless to say that Webtoon can absolutely afford to hire translators, this is just yet another way to not pay the people who are making the company behind Webtoon absurdly rich.

And for the people who might see this as a good decision:

I think important to add, because there seems to be a slight misunderstanding: AI translation is not "taking a word in one language and replacing it with a synonym in another." That's a large part of what non-AI machine translation does, and it creates clunky and often nonsensical sentences that can be reverse-engineered if you know a little about the original language.

Since the primary purpose of an LLM (inasmuch as they have one) is generating language, AI translation often results in fluid, natural-sounding sentences that are not actual translations of the source. It's going to vary wildly depending on the complexity of the model and how much training data it has in both languages, but it's probably going to look pretty good. Better than just running it in old Google Translate, right? And it's going to be wrong, with no indication where it fell off the track. Like everything with AI, it's going to hallucinate, and if you can't read and understand both the input and the output, you're going to have no idea how close any of it is.
