I mean, at least Moon has the metaphorical "nuts" (Ha. Get it?) to feel guilty for their traitorous acts. Sum seems to have no remorse at all.

AAAAAHHHH! KICKING MY FEET AND GIGGLING, I'm gonna ramble! Hopefully no spoilers?? (Nothing we don't already know anyway) This made me actually stop and think and friend....
Sun is my favorite! I can't help it, I related more to him than Moon and he just kind of stuck with me. He's overly anxious and scared of getting in trouble, I'M overly anxious and afraid of 'getting in trouble', same, same!
BUT, big old but, I like that you caught that Moon is feeling a bit more ashamed (as they rightfully should) btw. As for the fic, Sun has more personality and quirks, like being a sassy cvnt, but Moon has more emotional range/depth! Quite impressive for a guy who doesn't (seem to) think.
Sun doesn't "go with the flow" by any means, but he does think in alphabetical order with his heart guiding him, and at times doesn't think to take other people's feelings into consideration! Like when he got upset over MEchanic getting chapstick on him, even though he had JUST been thinking about how much he liked them?
He had a pop up come on saying he was sticky and needed it "fixed" and that was all he could think from there. It was just sticky -> fix it now. Didn't really matter how he GOT sticky or even if what he was saying was "appropriate" (we all know it wasn't) it just made his one track mind focus on that particular thing instead of the whys, or how's or "if I should berate my bestest best friend even though I (currently) am kinda in love with them?"s.
Every feeling Sun has is big. It doesn't make him a bad guy, it's just part of who he is.
He just focuses on the right exactly now, or the closest thing he can freak out over. Like when there's a ton of Fazzy String ™️ unloaded into the Daycare. Or when a certain someone waltz in like it was destiny and they lock orbs. He can't quite stop that loving feeling.
He could feel bad once he realizes what he's done. Or maybe not until it's too late
Moon is taking it hard, because he knows what's at stake. He does have the audacity to feel bad. He's dumb, but he's not stupid. You can't exactly have your YN and eat the Reader, too.
Also, the VR game where Sun got to be a sassy pants McGee was a big inspo for him to be meaner. I've always planned him to be the mean one (and maybe it is bc he's my favorite, maybe I need to do some self reflecting on that 🥲😭😂) and since he's canonically "mean", it seemed like the best route (trust, we're getting our feelings hurt by the both of em) that's one of my goals for each chapter is to make it hurt, somewhere throughout it.
