so, fun iceland update! i am an introverted creature who adjusts poorly to new social environments, so it has been a quiet life here so far, but in a bid to fill the solitude i started learning to knit and now i need project ideas. recently i went to a reconstructed early medieval farmhouse and there was a gift shop there that sold yarn dyed with natural plant fibres, i think based on the methods & materials with which wool would have been dyed locally in the early medieval period? so i bought as much as i could afford and now i need ideas of (medieval-themed, perhaps?) things that i can use my funky yarn for. it's very, very scratchy so i don't think an item of clothing would be great, but i would love to use it to make some kind of memento of my year here
ok SO! basically, the core of it is "what if one of them died in limbo" and then that evolved a Lot xD
what i settled on was "at some point, marm ends up dead, and now haunts limbo as a sort of guardian ghost spirit thing" and she watches over avid as he collects the last things he needs to escape, and he whispers a final goodbye to her, and since she died there she can't follow him through the portal. but she can make sure no one else ever dies here again
so avid moves on, and marm stays in limbo, but avid is still haunted by her ghost because that's his friend, and he couldn't save her from his own torment. that wasn't her punishment to bear, but she sacrificed herself to save him
if anyone else falls into limbo, which avid is now making doubly sure they dont, then marm will watch over and protect them as much she can until they escape. fortunately, people don't fall into limbo often. in a way, they're dual-protecting the world from it even though they dont know what each other are up to!
(also ghost!marm is just. avoid but marma1ade flavor (solidly void-black with stark white eyes) which is a fun detail)
if you know what the game Detective Beebo is (please play it it's so good. also like half of the sbk fandom is obsessed with it including me lol) then there's some things i added that are more of an au of the au au! BEEBO SPOILERS UNDER CUT
so! HAUNTED HOUSES ARE A BIG THING IN BEEBO. your grief is so overwhelming that the house you live in takes on a purpose and gains a mind of its own, and now it will do its best to grant your wish, as best it can. you also become part of the house, and your soul merges with it as you grant it a purpose
marm and avid both have grief that they use to, separately, haunt limbo (there's other sbk fans who have beebo aus and limbo is always such a huge part of it. cries) and by this i mean they are both haunting limbo. their souls are connected through this transitivity. guys theyre both a part of the House that is limbo can you hear me-
avid's grief for marm's death and marm's grief for not being able to rescue avid from his past (she's trapped in limbo, and with her went a part of avid, stuck forever in this place. you can never truly leave limbo...) make it so that the plane of limbo between the void and the overworld like. vanishes? not quite. idk how to describe it but this post is like. how i visualize limbo as a dimension, a small plane right above where the void begins to suffocate you? and when it becomes Haunted, the plane becomes more of a hologram / intangible thing than a pane of glass so people just fall straight through it with no worry of falling in
the only connection to limbo, now, is marm and avid's connected souls! :D
Wanted to play around with her costumes ‘cause her previous design was lacking colour. And she’s extremely passionate and extravagant young woman, so it was almost ridiculous for her to wear smth muted (especially in medieval times; even though fairies have completely separate perception of life (and other stuff that make a culture) from humans in the context of the world Mawd lives in)
Christmas, amiright? It is A Thing. And every year it seems to creep a bit further into autumn as capitalism demands larger and larger bloo
On this, the feast of Stephen, your resident Dr. Eleanor Janega fangirl offers you this article on how to live it up for the twelve days of Christmas as medieval folks were wont to do.
