I sure do love Unova, but I really have almost no attachment to their starters. Like, at all. I think there are just some things that...baffle and annoy me. Fortunately, with the power of Mega Evolutions, anything is possible!
Mega Serperior Grass/Dragon Ability: Serenity - Decreases super-effective damage 50% when not inflicted with a status condition HP: 75 Attack: 75 Defense: 135 (+40) Sp. Atk: 75 Sp. Def: 135 (+40) Speed:133 (+20) Notable Moves: Draco Meteor
Okay so real talk. I think this might actually just be worse than the base form. I can’t really think of any way in which it’s definitely better, aside from like...a passive set with Leech Seed, Coil, and whatever else you want to do. It’s basically just there to be a tank option, with an ability that turns everything into neutral damage except Ice. It can also carry over offensive boosts from the base form, but at that point you’re better off with Life Orb. I dunno, folks; I think this is just a wholly different creature that also probably isn’t that good.
Mega Emboar Fire/Dark Ability: Strong Body - negates recoil damage, and prevents defensive drops HP: 110 Attack: 153 (+30) Defense: 115 (+50) Sp. Atk: 70 (-30) Sp. Def: 115 (+50) Speed: 65 Notable Moves: Close Combat
You know what’s cooler than a damage buff on moves that have recoil? Not taking the recoil damage, and spamming moves with secondary effects. Flare Blitz, Close Combat, Wild Charge, Head Smash; all have the negative side-effects cancelled out. I also changed the typing to Fire/Dark, because that’s what it should have been from the start! Which means stronger Sucker Punch. Take that, world.
Mega Samurott Water/Fighting Ability: Bushido - If struck first, reduce damage 20%. If strikes first, increase damage 30% (includes if opponent attacks and you used a boosting move) HP: 95 Attack: 120 (+20) Defense: 105 (+20) Sp. Atk: 118 (+10) Sp. Def: 90 (+20) Speed: 100 (+30) Notable Moves: Sacred Sword
When trying to figure out what I wanted for Mega Samurott, I came to the conclusion it would be a good mixed attacker. But I also kinda wanted defenses, because of course I did. It’s not particularly fast in its base form, so I had to think about what was the most critical option to enhance. Turns out, it was all of them. Mild-to-moderate increases in all stats, and an ability that just gives a free Life Orb effect if you’re attacking first, and a reduction in any form of damage if you strike second. I honestly love the ability concept. It makes this a Pokemon with fairly good stats across the board, but nothing exceptional. Basic forms of regular Pokemon can have stats higher than 120 and get an item! But with the ability, it gets more wallbreaking potential, since it’s likely to outspeed most common walls, and allows better defense against the fast but frail offensive Pokemon. With both offenses being fairly equal, it also allows for mixing and matching of offensive options. The only significant drawback is Water/Fighting, which I honestly think makes sense, means it basically just gained three weaknesses. I could be talked into Water/Steel, or even just Water, but for some reason...I dunno, this just made sense.
