Got board and decided to rewatch ninjago after like 10 years or something but instead scrolled through the Kai tag. I got an idea for a ninjago Au now.

My idea is Lord garmadon gets tired of the ninja constantly thwarting him so he uses the mega weapon to go back in time before Wu trains the ninja. He plans to find and train the ninja before Wu.

Lord Garmadon goes to get Kai and Nya first. This is because Kai definitely hated him more than the other ninja, so farmadon would have to spend more time convincing Kai to his side. When garmadon get to the four weapons shop he has to coax them to his side like feral cats.

So I don't know the ninjas cannon ages I think they only have speculated ages so I personally think Kai is 15 in the pilot and Nya is 12, for the sake of this Au.

So Lord Garmadon finds them when Kai is 12 and Nya is 9. This gives him 3 years before Wu comes for them, good right? No because Kai and Nua are like feral cats extremely untrusting of him especially since he looks like he did in the pilot. So he spends like 1 year hanging around the shop to gain their trust and also checking to make sure Wu hasn't picked up the other ninja.

He gains some of their trust by giving Kai some blacksmithing tips. Garnadon worked with their parents and I know a lot of people like to imagine the parents group of ninja were close friends so it isn't hard to imagine Garmadon picking some things up from Ray and Maya. Kai and Nya also learn he knew their parents. Nya doesn't care at first since she was to young to remember them but Kai does and always wanted to know the reason that they were abandon. Of course Garmadon doesn't have the answers but he does tell them about their elements powers and starts two train them.

At this point 2 year have passed and Garmadon realized he got too distracted reminiscing on his previous friends the old ninjas. Wu has already picked up the other ninja at this point in this Au. It's okay though cause Lord Garmadon will just turn them to his side later and he the red ninja from Wu. Garmadin will instead turn his sights to getting his son who is also the green ninja. Kai and Nya who have given up on the Feral cat act leave with him to pick up his son. He is their teacher after all (and he can't abandon them that easily).

Lord Garmadon has also trained Kai and Nya as samurai instead of ninja. It's like an insult to Wu like “Not only have I turned your ninja against you but I also trained them as samurai instead”. This works out because I actually headcannon the smith family being really into samurai. Like Ray and Maya are ninja but have samurai armor in their shop like sure their blacksmiths but also- NYa chooses to make “Samurai X” and then Kai chooses the name “Shogun” for the slither pits. So imagine Ray and Maya had a samurai fascination for some reason and would read and tell samurai stories to Kai and Nya. And then Kai would tell Nua samurai stories after their parents left. So the Smith family just likes samurai’s making easier for Lord Garmadon to train Nya and Kai as samurai.

So when they leave the four weapons they take the golden weapons map obviously but also some personal items. I imagine Kai takes some of his parents' belongings since Garmadon telling them about their parents has Kai missing them. So things like clothes, weapons, and jewelry. Kai takes a pair of his mother's earrings and has Lird Garmadon pierce his ears. *Also I think it would be funny if Lord Garmadon thought Kai’s name was Ash at first! Since somewhere is said Kai parents named him Ash then changed it to Kai*

Garmadon, Nya, and Kai pick of Lloyd from Darkleys. Kai and Nya become Lloyd siblings, and they usually watch him when Garmadon is away. The Skulkins are still there but now they have to listen to Lord Garmadon, two teenagers, and a child. Lloyd will be like 6 probably. Again I don't know how old he was so this is an Au. Kai and Nya bully the Skulkins and Lloyd idolized them so he does too.

They pick up the fire sword after getting Lloyd. Wu hears about Garnadon no longer being banished and goes to get Kai and Nya but finds out their gone. He finds out his brother has them and is like “aw man”. So now he has to train Zane, Cole, and Jay again fire and water. It mostly follows the pilot with the collection of the golden weapons except for the sword of fire. And they also don't go to the underworld. The ninja gets the other golden weapons so now Garmadon will also have to steal the weapons but convince the ninja to his side. He tells Kai and Nya to be nice to the ninja since they have to make them turn traitor but it's also kinda hard when your smashing their facing in at the same time. The ninja are very confused. Cue Nya flirting with Jay only to actually fall in love with him.

The skulkin who babysit Lloyd while the others are out gets tired f him and abandon him in the desert. Lloyd anger goes to release the serpents to please his father. Cue Garmadon, Nya, and Kai absolutely destroying the Skulkin.

It follows season one but again with Kai and Nya evil trying to get the ninja to their side and the ninja trying to turn them good. Kai still awakens his true potential in the volcano saving Lloyd I'll have to think of how Nya can awaken hers.

Picture of a design for evil samurai Kai. I decided to make him blind in his scarred eye. Nya and Kai will have reversed color themes. So Kai is red with light blue accets and Nya is blue with red accennts. I have trouble drawing kais hairs so it's longer and he keeps it down now. I'll draw Nya soon!

I'll probably call this like “Fire and Water Elements of Destruction” so something like that.

The Mega Weapon

You know, I'm kinda surprised that I don't see more Ninjago fanfictions that use the Mega Weapon as a plot device. That weapon has so much fanfiction potential, like it can literally do anything!

Time Travel? - Been there, done that.

Changing the age? - Done.

Reviving the dead? - That happened.

Literally everything you can imagine!

My brother: Yeah, Lotor's ship just kinda disappeared, like the Golden Weapons in Ninjago.

Me: No, they didn't disappear. Garmadon stole them and fused them into a Mega Weapon thing, remember?

My other brother: Yeah, but he could only use it like, once a day or something.

Me: No no, it could only be used to CREATE. So, you know, it drove Mr. Destroy Everything Garmadon nuts.

My mom: If it could be used to create, why didn't he just use it to make another weapon? One that DOES destroy?

Me: ...

My other brother: ...

Me: OH MY GOSH

how do you think you would explain how the pirates are still alive in the future after the time travelling happened, or how lloyd is still older in the future, when the pirates AND the events that caused lloyd to age up were DIRECTLY the effects of the mega weapons wishes? the time travel apparently didnt erase the pirates being wished back to life or lloyd fighting the dinosaur monster at all.

Gosh, oishiipan, you just broke my second theory (which is good, I guess). That’s why I had multiple theories, in case one of them was wrong.

I’ll add that to the time travel post.

Update: I should’ve taken the time to answer this ask instead of having to edit after publishing. Correction - you didn’t just break the second theory, you just broke my brain. I don’t know how to justify the whole theory - heck, the entire episode and TV show - so I’ll see if I get any showerthought solutions.

How time travel works in Wrong Place, Wrong Time

OK, recap: Garmadon makes a time portal to separate the ninja. And during the fight against him, Zane says,

“It could be possible to erase the events that transpired so far by destroying the Mega Weapon that brought us here in the first place.”

(Thing is, as we all know, the future and past did alter.)

“My father has a Mega Weapon?”

So they destroy the thing by attacking the Mega Weapon by using the Past Golden Weapons...well, they went to space, right? Because they were equal in power and kinda destroyed themselves.

Past and present weapons fused together, sword to sword, scythe with scythe, then all to the Mega Weapon to becoming a chunk of gold that obliterates on touch.

Then the thing makes fireworks and lands in space.

And then past-Nya disappears...wait, what? It’s supposed to be the future characters, not the past, because it wasn’t the past that was rewritten, it was the future!

Time travel fictions give Stephen Hawking a headache. Wrong Place, Wrong Time is full of paradoxes.

The destruction of both sets of weapons makes the past disappear, because the Mega Weapon is the time travelling device that allow(ed/s) the timeline to change, so the moment it got destroyed...well, it should be that the future ninja will exist in the past and the rewritten timeline, unable to return to the future, co-existing with their “past” selves (another version of themselves). 

But we wouldn’t like that, would we? So deus ex machina, the Mega Weapon brings them back home. We can accuse the writers for making the universe’s laws lenient (and thus potentially crashing it unworkable like a failed hack on a game, had the universe not been fiction), but here’s a better way to think of it: 

The Mega Weapon is a wish-granting object, a genie’s lamp with rules, a diabolus ex machina, right? The moment the Mega Weapon was destroyed (i.e. melted to disfigurement), all the wishes it granted fade away from existence, including the time travel. Way harder to notice it, though, in a world it created where it’s not supposed to exist. If you somehow managed to see a possible paradox in the explanation - the time travel “wish” I meant is simply being able to travel in time, not the actions and effects future Garmadon and ninja caused. It’s like the Weapon Gold Mold thing kicked them tourists out because their services are cancelled, but they left all their tissue and vandalisms. 

...oh, I just realized the other more common explanation: there is a deadline to how long one can stay in their past before all the changes they made start taking effect, and in turn changing themselves. Here’s proof, the future Sensei Wu waiting for the ninja, for the past to decide itself, staring at the clouds. He’s not frozen - he’s waiting for a change.

You know, like in the latest X-Men where Wolverine can only stay in the past until Kitty, the time travel device gal, stops using her powers, and when she stops using her powers, then her present changes. Think Marty McFly in Back to the Future, his hand disappearing.

Destroying the Golden Weapons just cut the deadline to the minute it exploded/melted. Yes, there was no deadline mentioned in Wrong Place, Wrong Time, but if the writers had to send the future ninja back home without destroying the Golden Weapons, then they would’ve probably introduced one. 

The moment our ninja go back, they probably merged with the version that existed in the changed timeline (the past ninja version in Wrong Place, Wrong Time, in their later years). No, replace the identities and minds and memories of the ninja that lived there, if ever they don’t remembered the memories of an alternate universe where no Golden Weapons exists. Both versions are practically the same anyway. The Pilot no longer exists, but simply took place in another timeline that seized to be.

All right, let’s go back to the last question: why is Nya kissing Kai disappearing?

This doesn’t make sense, right? So why is this happening? 

Think: what is the message the writers are giving us by showing Nya is seemingly drifting into oblivion? There is a reason, right? “No,” you think, “there’s no logic in it, it doesn’t fit any of your explanations, they’re just disappearing Nya because it’s cool and it’s all nonsense.”

Yes, you’re right! There’s no logical system of this whole time travel! Throw away what I’ve taught you, here is third theory: the moment the Golden Weapons were destroyed, it was the last straw of the universe - there were waaaay too many paradoxes already with the time travel, but the fact that on a linear timeline, the whole nonsense about the Mega Weapon having to exist in order to make itself not exist but if it didn’t exist there wouldn’t be a cause-and-effect - no, it was just too much for logical quantum physics (which doesn’t have much merit). 

The destruction of the Mega Weapon led the fabric of reality to distort, bursting in an LSD trip before getting up. Reality washed the stains of its cotton fabric, and sorted time’s contradictions without thinking about its laws, bringing Kai, Zane, Jay and Cole back where they came from, albeit now with a slightly improved backstory and without sharp blades and inanimate genies made of gold (Golden Weapons).

6/4/15 - So a few timecountingwords after I posted this, oishiipan broke my brain by asking

So I was like, OK, then the Mega Weapon didn’t undo all its actions. But then I started to panic, because there must be a cause-and-effect here, and how could there be Captain Soto there without time travel? My real-life scientific hypothesis is nothing can exist or happen without a cause. Cause and effect must always go together.

But recently I stumbled upon a Kotaku article explaining the new Spiderman comic:

...Dr. Doom has tried to prevent the eradication of everything by stitching together a patchwork world made from various alternate Marvel realities.

I have no idea how it goes because of lack of summaries, but it could serve as an explanation, which just expands on the “reality sees time travel as nonsense and smooths out contradictions”. 

Another explanation related to “universe smoothed out time travel paradoxes”: the universe tried to find other possible timelines that look similar to the future ninja’s one, with Captain Soto and Lloyd’s aging via megaweapon. The universetried to make a timeline where majority of events happened, except with a different cause instead of a megaweapon (i.e. L. Garmadon awakened a beast without a megaweapon but another mystical force, and Lloyd still used Tomorrow’s Tea). 

So there you have it.

Hello again,in the new season,are the ninjas are going to have this special episode were they are girls instead of boys?...:\?

I can’t guarantee any specifics about the new season; I can only offer a general outline, if even that anymore.

If I had to guess, though, no. The only reason there were such weird, somewhat disjointed episodes in the first half of S2 was because of the Mega Weapon - Garmadon was pulling a different wish every episode, and thus they could pull all sorts of weird things (like turning the Ninja into kids, reviving Captain Soto and his crew, etc.).

However, we don’t have the Mega Weapon anymore to make these wishes (and for that I am personally very thankful; that entire arc barely held itself together, let alone bridge the gap between the Serpentine and Stone Army arcs!). That source of insta-magic is gone; in other words, they’d have to do it all manually.

Even in the time period that we appear to have skipped to, this kind of technology would not exist. To press a button and make someone else a different gender within seconds? Yeah, it’s not gonna happen without several hours of surgery (or, at least in Zane’s case, several hundred hours of reprogramming).
