Actually, Mairon was truly shameless for calling Melkor "the greatest giver of gold and rings" in front of Beren and Finrod.

"Did you know my boss spoils me ROTTEN? Yeah, I’m his favorite special boy and I’m living my best life. I can kill and torture pathetic little idiots like you as much as I want for my heart’s pleasure, and then I get tons of jewelry and pats on the head as a reward. I’m so winning at life."

An Eye For An Eye

As my Melkor has heterochromia I like to think that the reason Mairons sigil is a red eye is partly for the fact that Melkors right eye is red. The eye Mairon sees when standing next to him :)))

(I also have a fic idea for that… let’s see how far that gets)
