A clumsy kiss for Bucktommy, please 🫶
(sorry I took a dinner break!)
“Another round!” Lucy cheered as the waitress brought over a tray of tequila shots.
Melton carefully doled them out, waiting until everyone had one in hand. “To my promotion, and Kinard’s misfortune!”
The rest of the pilots cheered, Tommy scowled, and Buck laughed before he downed his shot. Melton had shelled out for the good tequila, and Buck could feel the warmth it left behind, spreading out towards his fingers and toes.
“One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor!” Lucy chanted, pointing at Buck as he listed slightly into Tommy’s side.
“I’ve only had two,” he pointed out.
“And Tommy’s weird ass high ABV beer,” one of the other pilots said. Buck thought it was Hernandez.
“I’m totally fine,” he lied, doing his best to sit upright. Tommy laughed warmly and slung an arm around his shoulders, sliding in closer to help keep him propped up.
“Want to get out of here?” he ducked his head to whisper in Buck’s ear.
“Absolutely not,” Buck shook his head. “Not every day you get to celebrate your captaincy with your team.”
When Melton had announced he was going to be moving to the academy, he’d pulled Tommy aside and said Tommy could turn it down if he wanted, but there was no one he trusted more to run Harbour when he left.
Tommy had said he wanted to discuss it with Buck before he made a decision, and Buck had told him in no uncertain terms that he should accept it. It meant a few less hours in the air, a few more hours doing paperwork, but Buck knew it was something Tommy had wanted for a long time.
“Okay,” Tommy said, his thumb lazily stroking along Buck’s shoulder.
Buck settled in to listen to the 217, Lucy and Hernandez throwing out more and more ridiculous training ideas to Melton, Williams trying to convince Tommy he shouldn’t have to be on cooking duty any more after his latest kitchen disaster, letting the voices wash over him.
“Want anything?”
Buck blinked at Tommy, running the last bit of conversation back. Tommy waited patiently.
“Just some water,” Buck decided, leaning in to kiss him.
Lucy might have had a point, because he only caught the corner of Tommy’s mouth with his own, the kiss mostly landing on his cheek. He could see the lines around Tommy’s eyes deepen as he smiled, resting a hand on Buck’s cheek and giving him a proper, if chaste, kiss.
The rest of the pilots hooted and hollered at their new captain. Buck felt dazed as Tommy pulled away, and wasn’t sure if it it was from the kiss or the alcohol.
“Be right back,” Tommy promised, sliding out of the booth.
“So,” Williams said as soon as Tommy was out of earshot. “When are you making an honest man out of our captain?”
