I am a woman
How am I a woman?
1. Not because of my organs or bodyparts. Not because you say I am.
But because I say I am woman. And nothing you do can change that.
2. I am a woman by not being a woman.
Or at least not the woman society thinks I am (is anyone ever?)
I am not the woman my parents think I am.
That my school thinks I am.
That my friends, family, crush, sister, therapist, followers or world. Think. I. Am.
I'm not even the woman I think I am.
I'm all of them.
Actually, screw that. It's way more complex than that, I am way more complex than that.
I am all of that and so much more.
I am a woman because of my scars and my marks.
I am a woman because of my trauma and the moments in life I waltzed through.
I am a woman because of what my parents made me.
I am a woman because of what my parents didn't make me.
I am a woman because of my strengts and weaknesses.
What doesn't define my woman being HOWEVER is my colour or my sexuality or roots or even my beliefs.
It's not my brain or my looks.
My heart or my head.
It's me.
I make me a woman
A woman who is everything and nothing. Who is so much more than whatever you can imagine and with that also less than what you can imagine.
But...
The most important thing you should remember about me...
About what makes me a woman...
Is that I. Am. A. Person.
So now reread this poem/rant/whatever you wanna call it and put yourself in there. Put your person in there. Replace every damn woman with person.
And answer my one question:
How are you a person?
