Can you explain mennard in your au real quick?
Err, uh, sure! I'm assuming you mean the shipping of Michael and Ennard, which is, technically, not in my AU, but the two DO have a bit of a backstory.
What I'm about to explain actually contains huge SPOILERS for CGHA and AFLH, which significantly take the impact and enjoyment out of the story. So, if you're planning on reading that,
don't read this.
Okay, you've been warned well enough.
Michael Afton left home as a young adult and went to college where he studied robotics. There he met and began a friendship with a young man named Ben Hansberry. They were close and eventually even moved in together. It should be noted that this wasn't a romantic relationship, just a very close friendship.
Michael was detached from his family and Ben was a foster child, so neither had many connections. Thus, the bond they formed with one another was very dear to them.
At one point, Michael got a call from his father trying to get him to go to Afton Robotics with the claim that his sister was there. Michael refused, but shortly afterwards Ben found out about the alleged job in Afton Robotics. Unable to find work in his field, and against Michael's warnings, Ben took the job.
Within a few days of working in Afton Robotics, Ben was reached out to by Baby, who played the role of an innocent, sentient animatronic. Ben was so intrigued that he continued going down to Afton Robotics until he was eventually confronted by Michael. At Michael insistance, Ben decided to quit the job.
But not before Baby lured him into the Scooping Room.
When Ben didn't return, Michael eventually caved and went down into Afton Robotics to find him... But he didn't. He too was scooped and, unlike Ben, his body was more than acceptable for its new burden.
Except once his body decayed, the amalgam fled his body and Michael was left struggling to exist up until the event in which he went to Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria and found himself trapped inside of Springtrap.
After rejecting Baby, the rest of the Afton Robotics animatronics wandered around in their conjoined form waiting for another body until something inside of the body became sentient and forced them out of it. At this point, Ennard became his own being and struggled to learn how to exist.
Michael and Ennard do not interact until sometime later when they are trapped in the same inclosed space, during which Michael aggressively goes after Ennard, recognizing him as the one who murdered Ben and stole his own body. They are forced to reluctantly work alongside each other later to keep from dying.
Michael and Ennard's relationship doesn't get much better in their next encounter, when they get into a brief fist-fight in the warehouse and have to be broken apart by a threat from a taser. Michael still identifies Ennard as his killer while Ennard has become convinced that Michael is William Afton.
It is revealed later that this is because Ennard believes he is the real Michael Afton. He remembers his voice and is having spotty flashbacks of being scooped, which almost leads to a total breakdown where he literally falls apart.
This finally culminates in a terrible plan to go down to Afton Robotics so Michael can prove who he is. Ennard is not supposed to come, but he does, and it is down there when Michael is able to prove that he IS who he says he is.
They're then attacked by the surviving Molten Funtime Gang and the two make a sort of truce, which after the events of what happens down there leads Michael to being willing to keep it- especially since at this point it is obvious that Ennard isn't the same being who scooped him and Ben.
Because after hearing Ennard mention a few choice things, Michael realizes that he IS Ben. Ben who has taken over Ennard's body, but only remembers the vaguest pieces of his memories.
After this point, and a nice little chat, Michael and (B)ennard pick up their friendship where it was left, with Michael even repairing Ennard after his eye injury towards the end of the book. As of right now, the two are on good terms and have no animosity towards each other.
I COULD imagine that people may think there was something romantic though since Michael is shown throughout the story to be so deeply in mourning for Ben.
For example, he clings to a Handunit device that Ben used to use- evidenced by some of the things on it. Ironically, it is this Handunit that ends up being the catalyst to the discovery that Ben is Ennard.
Michael is also shown to be surprisingly gentle with Ennard after the reveal that he is Ben. Something not frequently shown in CGHA and AFLH, though is largely because of the situations he is in.
So, if you ship Michael and Ennard in this context, then all the power to you!
In the ARI Nightmares series, Michael Afton and Ennard have not met and haven't had any interaction, though Ben is alive- he goes as Eggs- and he and Michael are roommates.
In the Buried Voice Trilogy, Michael and Ennard's relationship, if they had one, is currently unknown. Though it IS known that the scooping did occur.
