10/11/20Â You Are Loved <3
Hey everyone! Hope you are doing well :)
If you donât have time to read the entire devo, I just want to let you know that God created you with a purpose. No matter what youâre going through, remember that God has so much in store for you in the future! There are people around you that support you and value everything that you do. Even if you donât know me, Iâm an email away if you ever need someone to talk to!!
In the spirit of World Mental Health Day yesterday, I thought I would take the time to reflect on a few topics that are often taboo and overlooked in churches. Especially now, when everyone is forced into isolation at home and in the midst of a hard school semester or job uncertainty, itâs important to find purpose and joy in life. And, as Lili discussed in her devo earlier this week, staying connected with a church and engaging in fellowship with other believers is extremely valuable. We need to continue growing in faith and growing together!
I want to first share these verses from Psalm 139.
For you created my inmost being;
  you knit me together in my motherâs womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
  your works are wonderful,
  I know that full well.
God created each and every one of us to be unique and special in His eyes. Weâre all blessed with talents and gifts that are one of a kind. His love for us is so abundant, we canât even comprehend it. God knew each and every one of us from before we were even born! How crazy is that? Our Creator in heaven watches over us every second of the day, giving us hope and peace. We are made âfearfully and wonderfullyâ in His image and praise the Lord for that! I hope that we will never forget these truths from Godâs Word.
Now, Iâll share a few things Iâve been thinking about. Over quarantine, Iâve definitely had more time to waste, and something Iâve done to distract myself from reality is scrolling through TikTok. I know the app gets such a bad rep, but I feel like Iâve been able to learn a lot from random videos people have created. If you arenât familiar with how the TikTok works, it is able to track the types of videos you enjoy and curate a suitable timeline that varies every day.
Well, one specific theme that Iâm now seeing a lot is quite sad, with videos that reminisce the life of a lost loved one. This got to my emotions and I feel like one of my worst fears is losing a close friend or family member. I donât want to stray too far from the initial topic of this devo, but I just feel like I have this burden to constantly make sure that everyone in my life is doing okay because I donât think I would be able to deal with the guilt of not being able to protect them. Even with people that I might not talk to regularly, I canât bear to think about someone feeling like they arenât loved and valued.
With that being said, I suppose we can take time to meditate on these verses and the topic of mental health. The world today is really toxic sometimes, and life can be a lot to handle with how much busier our lives have begun. Honestly, throwback to simpler times when we were eating animal crackers in Sunday school and fighting about who got to go down the slide first. Anyway, whatever is causing you stress or worry or fear, I urge you to bring that to God in prayer and to have full trust in His will.
Additionally, maybe our problem is placing our worth in worldly things. In todayâs sermon, Pastor Plato questioned what we were letting take control of our lives. Is it work/school? Money? Relationships? Or, is it God? We all need to reevaluate our purpose in life and cast away any unwanted distractions. Weâll never be fully satisfied if our eyes arenât centered on the Lord.
Right now, I feel like Iâm sacrificing my time with God to do well in school with the ultimate hopes of finding a good job and making money. College is such a stressful time and I constantly feel that looming sense of failure creeping in. It seems like my only major goal in life right now is to do well in school. Pastor Kenneth actually shared a quote from his professor that was along the lines of âyou might want to do everything perfectly, but youâll die tryingâ (hopefully thatâs at least somewhat accurate). Situations and mistakes that might seem like a big deal right now are simply a learning experience and a way for us to rely on Godâs power.
With all that in mind, I suppose I just want to remind you all of Godâs love and provisions. I believe that God is leading us in so many different directions but with a clear purpose in mind. Again, I hope that everyone is getting through this unmotivating time at home in quarantine. Make sure to spend quality time with your family + check in with your friends :)
