i read the books a long time ago but never watched the show - how different are they?

Idk, I haven't read the books. My friend has -- she says the books are way better, but a) I don't trust her judgment like she once told me that she would actually eat a person like not in the sexy way but the cannibal way if the option showed up so i don't trust most of her trash mouth b) I feel like... idk. I really like the actors and the setting of the show, so I think I'd prefer it overall... If that makes sense?

But who knows, the books for GOT are way better for the tv show, so maybe it's the same way.
