truly sick of the debate whether we can seperate art from artist because you can’t. lovecraft’s racism is written into his monsters, whedon’s misogyny into the way he punishes his female characters, jk rowling’s transphobia and fatphobia are obvious in her descriptions of characters ur not meant to like, woody allen’s pedophelia is validated in every film he’s made about an older man falling for a very young woman, Dr Seuss’ racism was obvious in all his works he’d written for adults-- do i need to go on? you can’t seperate them! creations can’t exist without their creators’ thoughts and so carry their creator’s thoughts for better and worse! does this mean we get rid of the art? or only support Good Art? ofc not!! there isn’t such a thing! it means you believe and support the victims/survivors, you take the lesson in how not to be and carry it all into making something better.
the way euphoria is shot is actually so goofy to me like it's giving ✨pretentious✨, yes but in the cheap over-confident way that the 22 year old boys in my cinematography class would shoot their 5 minute short films about Mental Illness™. Like yeah you use all those intense angles and fancy lenses to say...mental illness is sad :/
it makes me see red reading fans of 13′s era praise it for “making the Doctor openly queer” and “having a queer relationship in the TARDIS” and “giving Doctor Who wlw representation.” First of all, the first gay kiss on Doctor Who was between the Doctor and Jack Harkness who, wouldn’t you know it, was their companion being openly gay in the TARDIS at the time. Secondly, people claiming that Yaz and the Doctor is in ANY way the first significant wlw representation for the show is misogynoir/antiblack. Bill Potts, played by openly bisexual actor Pearl Mackie, was a lesbian and the very first scene we ever met Bill she was telling the Doctor about how distracted she was by a pretty girl she’d met the night before. Bill was also the character that gave the series its first ever wlw kiss. That all happened 2 years before Yaz was even a companion. I am not trying to take away from people who are excited for Yaz/13. but if i see one more post that erases the Doctor’s bisexuality from when they were presenting as a man, or another post celebrating Yaz’s queerness that erases Bill Potts, i’m going to SCREAM (and block a lot of y’all for being antiblack!). I am begging youse to please stop giving Chris Chibnall praise for plot-points that have been done before, and better!! yes, its queer representation, but please ask yourselves is it meaningful? Is it written with depth and respect for the communities it affects? is it good? hell, is it even an improvement on what has been done before? chris chibnall has never written anything in this show with care. just look at how bluntly and simplistically he handled episodes about climate change and race! he isn’t a skilled or empathetic writer, especially when vulnerable peoples and topics are concerned. what’s more, neither jodie nor mandip are compelling enough actors to carry the slack left by his incompetency. stop giving this era of Doctor Who credit for anything other than turning the series into a condescending shadow of itself that wants brownie points for poorly immitating the bare minimum.
furious that boba fett is a legacy character from both the original trilogy and prequel trilogy, is a historically significant representation for Māori in scifi thanks to temuera morrison, AND that morrison fought for Boba to have his own series with Indigenous themes which he practically singlehandedly achieved - only for his show to be relegated SEVEN episodes (Mandolorian has 8 a season btw), and for ONE of HIS SEVEN EPISODES to be totally dedicated to a character that was a direct whitewashed (latino is an ethnicity not a race, pedro pascal is white, he says so himelf here) rip off of Boba Disney pulled out of their ass to sell toys, and who also ALREADY HAS TWO FUCKING SEASONS OF A WHOLE SHOW TO HIMSELF. your “did they release the right show episode?” jokes aren’t funny. both Disney, and the fandom celebrating Boba Fett being totally disregarded in his own show in favour of a character that was a weak appropriation of him in the first place is the most potent example of how Indigenous racism and colonialism permeates every level of pop-culture. fuck Disney and fuck Mandalorian fans for disrespecting Boba Fett like this.
yo i understand the animal population depletion is a horrible consequence of the aussie bush fires and those animals are an important and adorable part of the now devasted environment, BUT before u go into white-vegan-feminist mode and donate money to charities exclusively assisting animal preservation, pls consider the 100s and 100s of Australians, especially indigenous australians who are being displaced and are now homeless, as well as the volunteers working tirelessly to help these people and fighting these fires, and that these people should be the first people u help, not animals. animal life is not more important than human life and never will be and if your way of appealing to people to help with the fires is via promoting animal charities then you’re at best extremely unhelpful and at worse, a racist. that aside, there’s no one to help animals without people. help people first, animals second, because people need help the most right now.
crazy how i spent the last two years of my life being so terrified of getting covid i’ve barely left my house unless i had to and had debilitating deppression because of that and now i’ve got/had covid so many ppl around me are just like “ahahaha! nbd though see haha it was basically like you had a cold!” yeah except i haven’t been living in fear of getting a cold!! and a cold wouldn’t have left me feeling this exhausted!! and a cold wouldn’t have robbed me of my ability to taste!! but yeah haha nbd, right??? anyway, i am feeling loads better but i also feel a crazy mix of “was that it?” “was i stupid for derailing my life to avoid this?” “why do i feel so angry?” “why do i feel more deppressed now i’ve had it?” anyways i am just venting idk what to do with all this.
movies I unironically believe are beautiful wonderful absolutely smashing and will happily watch any day idc what ppl say
The Avengers 2012 - yeah it's corny but it's also sincere and every scene still gets me hyped idc
St Trinians 2007 - greatest Heist film ever made, had better lgbt representation than the majority of shit we see today idc
Alice In Wonderland 2010 - Tim Burton hasn't made anything even half as good as this since he made this cos he put his whole Tim Burtussy into it idc
Catwoman 2005 - it was simply ahead of its time. The world wasn't ready for miss halle as Catwoman dismantling the toxic beauty industry
Jumanji welcome to the jungle 2017 - if you skipped this because you thought it wouldn't be respectful of robin williams you were incorrect and missed one of the greatest comedies of all time.
A Wrinkle In Time 2018 - this was a stunning and meaningfully racebent adaptation and if you didn't see its value I kinda think you're heartless
Paul 2009 - this movie is fucking hilarious. Maybe you had to be there but idc it's fucking funny
The Mortal Instruments 2013 - literally was a better adaptation in every way than shadowhunters idgaf
Limitless 2011 - is this a Dad movie?? Well I guess I am a father. Love it. Last 20 minutes is HEARTSTOPPING
Jump In 2007 - cinema. CINEMA. this film coulda had a bring it on type franchise but didn't and We All Know Why
Surfs Up 2007 - this film is 80% of my personality. Animation mockumentary was a stroke of genius but it was ahead of its time
Bring It On all or Nothing 2006 - the superior bring it on movie. Ppl meme it for the crumpimg scene and they should but it's still a MASTERPIECE I wanna kiss solange knowles on the mouth and give her an Oscar
If you hate any of these films, keep that shit to yourself or we aren't gonna make it passed being acquaintances because it means to me that you don't like things with HEART
