Mor has always gotten under Nesta's skin, and Nesta has the same effect on Mor. That's all there is to it; there's nothing else going on.
Or: five times Nesta lied to herself + the one time she didn't
written for @sjmsapphic day 1. there is mutual pining if you squint. but also mutual loathing. it's toxic yuri time >:)
thank you to @olenvasynyt for beta reading she saved my life!!

Nesta scans the room for her next conquest. A few familiar faces make to catch her eye, but she turns away quickly. She prefers to avoid repeats. But Velaris, no matter its size, is an isolated city; there are never travelers passing through to entice for a single forgettable night. The pool of prospects has begun to ebb.
When she catches glimpse of a head of sun-gold hair, she finishes her drink. The color is one of a kind, just as the faint scent of citrus and cinnamon that wafts amongst the must and sweat and old, stale beer soaked into the floorboards.
Recklessly, she pushes her way through the crowd.
"Morrigan," Nesta says with mock sweetness, flashing her teeth as she approaches. It's too pretty a name for someone so unpleasant. "I didn't think this was your sort of tavern."
"It isn't." Morrigan's nose wrinkles, the long curve of it pinching with disdain.
"Following me around now, are you?" Nesta asks, not caring that the words slur together as they tumble out of her mouth.
Morrigan says nothing, only looks at Nesta down her nose. She's always looking at Nesta like that—like an annoyance she'd rather not put up with. Like something inferior.
She's dressed, as usual, in bright red. Something tight and low-cut that hugs every curve of her body, leaving little to the imagination. Scandalous in a way that's hard to look away from.
"If you were trying to go unnoticed, this"—she gestures to Morrigan's dress—"was an odd choice."
"Maybe I wanted you to notice me," she says, her voice sensuous as silk, a long nail tracing the rim of her drink.
do u have an idea for how toxic yuri nesta x mor smut dynamic would be 🫣 personally i am partial to sunshine top and grumpy bottom dynamic (mor smiling sweet and sharp while topping a scowling nesta??? cinema 🤌🤌) but also feel like they would just switch constantly bc neither want to "lose" to the other lol
Well at the start they’d be biting clawing kissing hissing like a couple of cats in heat, then after a while it would mellow out into them rage-baiting each other at meetings then fucking nasty in the house of wind afterwards
A suffix for when someone's entire hoard is themed after something. For example, a catmallstic may have an identity hoard mostly or fully related to cats.

Nesta
Nesta sighed as she finally made it back to the safety of her dorm room, closing the door behind her and leaning against the dark wood for a moment.
Nesta still could hardly believe that Amren had chosen her to study sorcery. She’d only been here to see Elain off, and then that overeager headmistress had tried to touch her chair, and now…
And now here she was, attending classes and learning how to harness the strange powers that had plagued her all her life and turn them into a tool. Sure, her classmates weren’t particularly nice, but she’d dealt with that all her life. She wasn’t seasick, she hadn’t eaten too many blueberries as a child, and she wasn’t depressed. She was just blue, and they were going to have to deal with it.
Her father had been irate, but she’d dealt with that all her life, too. Speaking of him, she should probably write to him and give him an update; she sighed and made her way through all of Morrigan’s blood red possessions to her corner of the room.
Nesta had just pulled out an empty page and her good pen when Morrigan finally returned from classes, and there went her concentration. At least she was alone for once; Morrigan was bad enough on her own without bringing her irritating friends into it.
“Oh,” Morrigan said once she realized she wasn’t in the room by herself. She was wearing another red outfit that absolutely violated Prythian’s dress code, but everyone knew none of the faculty would ever say anything to her about it. “You’re here.”
“Where else would I be now that classes are finished for the day?” Nesta said back flatly, attempting to turn back to her letter. It was already a failed effort; Morrigan had the unfortunate habit of drawing everyone’s eyes, and even in what should have been the privacy of her room, Nesta wasn’t immune.
“I don’t know,” Morrigan replied with a huff. She tossed her blonde hair over her shoulder and Nesta had to force herself not to focus on how gold her hair looked when it caught the sun. “That building where they have all the books?”
“You mean the library?” Nesta asked in disbelief, turning to look at Morrigan again just so she could see Nesta’s expression. How she managed to make it through the world, Nesta hadn’t the faintest idea. It was infuriating.
“Yes,” Morrigan answered primly. She shrugged out of her maroon jacket and tossed it into her corner of the room, revealing a lot of pale, creamy skin that had Nesta hurriedly turning back to her desk. “That place.”
“It’s too busy in there,” Nesta responded after a few seconds of willing herself to calm down. It was just her dislike for Morrigan that was making her cheeks feel warm, that was all. “Not that I owe you an explanation.”
“No, because you’re not as nice as I am,” Morrigan retorted. She finally flounced over to her side of the room and sat down at her vanity, and Nesta heard her rummaging around for something inside one of the drawers. “Aha!”
Whatever. She wasn’t going to bother dignifying that with a response.
Nesta rolled her eyes before forcing herself to turn back to her letter in earnest; she didn’t particularly want to write to her father, but it was certainly preferable to speaking to Morrigan.
Dearest Father, Nesta wrote. There’s been some confusion over rooming here at Prythian, but of course I’ll care for Elain, for I know that’s how you’d want me to respond.
“Dearest… Mother…” Morrigan muttered to herself from her side of the room.
Nesta held back her incredulous huff. Of course she couldn’t be original – if Nesta had to write a letter to her father, of course Morrigan had to reach out to her mother. From what Nesta had managed to see of the woman, she hadn’t been impressed, but it wasn’t as though she had a particularly more impressive option herself.
“There’s… been… some confusion… for you see my roommate is…” Morrigan continued to narrate her letter out loud. “Unusually and exceedingly peculiar… and altogether impossible to describe…”
Fine. Two could play at that game.
“There’s been some confusion… for you see my roommate is…” Nesta repeated, trying to come up with something that would strike back at the roommate in question. After a few moments of thought, she decided simply on, “Blonde.”
Apparently, that was going too far for Morrigan. “Excuse me?”
“Yes?” Nesta responded, turning around to see Morrigan glowering at her from across the room. “Do you have a problem?”
“You know how hard I’ve been trying to be nice, Nesta, but really,” Morrigan snapped. She stood up from her desk and took several long strides across the room, stopping at the halfway point between their sides with a loud huff. “You’re being ridiculous!”
“You started it,” Nesta responded as calmly as she could manage, knowing it would make Morrigan turn as red as her clothing. “You give me a constant headache, but you don’t see me going on and on about it.”
“Well, my pulse won’t calm down,” Morrigan fired back without missing a step. “You just make me so… ugh. Your face, your clothing, your… everything.”
“Well, I don’t like you either,” Nesta told her, finally getting to her own feet and stepping forward to meet Morrigan where she stood. They were nearly the same height, but Morrigan was just a hair taller than Nesta at the moment with those ridiculous heels she always wore. “In fact, I can’t stand you.”
“Well, I loathe you,” Morrigan replied in a clear attempt to one-up Nesta. She took another step closer so they were practically chest to chest, and Nesta pretended not to notice how pretty her eyes were up close or how warm she was through both their clothes.
“I didn’t know you knew a word that complex,” Nesta told her sweetly, trying to focus on how Morrigan made her blood practically roar in her ears instead of how pretty Morrigan was when she was so angry. It was ridiculous how distracting she was. “Congratulotions.”
“I’ll show you complex,” Morrigan huffed. She tried to lean forward and tower over Nesta, but at the same time, Nesta tried to reach up onto her toes to make them the same height, and somehow their lips connected and didn’t stop.
Huh, Nesta thought as she let Morrigan’s tongue into her mouth. Maybe it wasn’t loathing after all.
