In honor of Mama's Day here are some Kantoph-universe headcanons for Mama Toph!

Metalbabies (or Kantophlets ;) are: Lin, Suyin, twins Xinyi and Xie, Jie, Mei, and Jian :D

To calm the babies down, she usually holds them and sways, and then presses her lips to the baby's head. It doesn't take long after that for bb to calm down.

The Kantophlets love to nap with her because she pulls them into her warmth and they could lay there for hours. Even if they're not sleepy, they'll just lay with her, sometimes they like to babble and Toph listens and chimes in with a comment every now and again.

Play time usually involves earthbending, a bit of meteorite shape bending, and lots of running around to get their energy out.

Toph would deny this, but Kanto has heard her sing soft lullabies to the babies when they're having trouble sleeping.

The Kantophlets almost always insist that Toph help them get dressed in the morning. Usually requires a match-check by Kanto, but she knows how the dressers are organized and does a killer job getting them ready for the day.

Toph is also easily persuaded by the Kantophlets to skip daycare/work and have a day out in the town. Kanto and Toph typically do a day with each baby to make it a lil special.

One of her favorite things to do is teach the kiddos seismic sight. Especially with Jie, she loves being able to pass down her knowledge to the kids and to help Jie see the world better (Jie is a blind bb that they rescued/adopted).

Throughout the day, Toph tries to check in on the Kantophlets and their whereabouts. She's not trying to be snoopy, she just likes to know they're safe and happy.

She loves feeling their heartbeats accelerate with excitement and tries to feel that every day.

The Kantophlets don't like going to bed until Mama tucks them in. If there are evenings where she has to work late, she'll come back home for bedtime, and then go back to work if she has to. The babies always come first, though.

Toph is the more lax and carefree parent, but that doesn't mean she doesn't worry. No one messes with her babies, or they will feel her wrath.

Do you have any headcanons about Kantoph and Zutara being couple friends?

Oooo yes yes yes :D I feel like they’d be great friends and make it a point to visit each other whenever they can.

I like the idea of them going on vacation together. They’ve got tough jobs, and sometimes they need a break. And while they always ask the whole Gaang, it’s usually Kantoph or Zutara that says yes haha. Whenever they go (usually to Ember Island), Katara and Toph do a bit of chatting and sparring, and sometimes Katara convinces Toph to go shopping. Zuko and Kanto do the same thing usually, but separate from the girls so they can get “bro time” as Kanto calls it lmao. The couples love going to the beach together though, and Katara and Kanto cook dinner while Zuko and Toph nap or read.

Katara and Zuko are the first people from the Gaang that Toph tells about Kanto! She tells them about all the milestones first, incoming baby Lin being a really exciting time for them lmao.

I feel like Kanto trusts Zuko and Katara enough that he goes to them for advice first. And they’re always surprised when they find Kanto at their door because it’s not like they live next door. But he knows they’ll be honest with him.

Zutara and Kantoph agreed to watch the kids if anything bad happened to one of them, a heavier emphasis on Zutara taking care of the metalbabies (only because Katara and Zuko have immediate family and they can rely on them for guardianship too).

I see Zutara and Kantoph always doing double dates with dinner whenever they can. They have the best time when they go out, a great combination of good conversations and shenanigans lmao. This holds up even when they have kids.

We know that Katara is there for the birth of the metalbabies, but I wonder if Toph and Kanto are at the Fire Nation when the steambabies are born. Maybe not the firstborn, but for the subsequent children. They keep the kiddos busy while Katara and Zuko are gone for the day LOL.

I don’t this this applies to our in universe AU, but I like the idea of Katara being a meddler and basically playing matchmaker for Toph and Kanto in a modern setting haha! She’s just like “I’m meddling because I love you and you’ll love Kanto. You can thank me later by making me the godmother of your children.”

And then in general, Zutara and Kantoph are the best aunts/uncles to the kiddos. They spoil them rotten too hehe.

Okay I think I rambled on long enough about the potential for Zutara and Kantoph being besties, because I firmly believe that is the case LOL. But hey if you wanna talk about them more please do! :D

Can’t remember if we’ve talked about this before or not but how do the officers down at the station react when Toph visits them at work with newborn baby Lin?

Oh my goodness they're just puddled when they see Mom Chief Beifong come to the precinct with Chief Jr.

It's a surprise to all of them, because she was just randomly bored sitting at home so she thought why not go visit the station. Kanto was very excited to see Lin and Toph and then proceeded to carry and parade Lin around so the officers could see. Some of the more tenured and responsible overgrown teenagers officers get to hold Lin. They may have gotten some dust in their eyes. (They SWEAR it was dust. They weren't just crying). But yeah they definitely ignore work for the hour that she visits and then spend the next hour talking about Baby Chief. Kanto tries to get them back to work but he falls under the trap of gushing about them too.

I can see Toph standing off to the side smirking at all the excitement (maybe even chatting with Penga? If she stayed on the force? Or just another buddy cop lol). After Kanto passes off Lin to a responsible metalbender, he goes over to side hug her and they just smile and watch the scene unfold.

Toying with the idea of metalbaby #2 being a boy (instead of it being Suyin) that way it’s sort of balanced out with one boy and one girl. Plus making OC kids is fun.

Making OC kids is always fun because there are so many possibilities! I think it's interesting too to see how the characters would react to having one girl and one boy. It's cute.

I kind of like the idea of them having Suyin and saying they're done (especially if with the whole 'Kanto was kidnapped' bit). But then the bloodbender case comes up again (dang Kantoph can't catch a break lol) and they both almost die and they have oops baby #3 after that's a boy lmao.

I also love the fact that we can't let go of Kanto at this point so we're finding ways for him to live and have more kids and a happy life (filled with hurt/comfort) with Toph.

Lin: How’s the (whatever holiday they have in ATLA instead of Christmas) tree going, Dad?

Kanto: Pretty good. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to top it with an angel or a star, so I went with both.

Lin: Dad, that’s a picture of Mom.

Kanto: Exactly.

LMAO where is the lie?

Lin: Dad, what did you do to the ornaments?

Kanto: I made them better.

Lin: But they're just pictures of Mama and me taped on everything.

Do you have any thoughts on the day Lin was born (Kantoph AU) and how the Gaang reacted to meeting her? Oh and do you think they would go to the hospital or have a home birth?

I have many a thoughts on Kantoph in general, but yes. Also many a thoughts on Lin's birth haha!

So I initially thought it would be cute/funny if they were together when Toph goes into labor. She just slaps him awake and there's a moment of shock, but then they're excited because they're gonna be parents now but shit they're gonna be parents now. But they go to the hospital (Katara's been in town for the last month or so), and it's kind of smooth sailing from there. That's a pretty heartwarming, pure fluff Domestic Kantoph kind of vibe.

The other idea, where Kanto is at work when she goes into labor is pure comedic gold, I love it.

Zuko is also in RC (because he can't go a day without his Queen Katara lmao), and is keeping Toph company while Kanto is at work, and Sokka decides to ditch work in favor of hanging out with them. Aang stops by for a quick break and to say hi. Then Toph goes into labor, chaos ensues like we talked about (Aang tries to be calm but then Toph practically catapults him out of her home, Sokka is sprinting to the station, and Zuko for some reason forgot what he should do to help). I feel like until Kanto is there Toph is kind of freaking out because her friends have no brain cells.

And then when they go to the hospital, Kanto shows up eventually and then Toph relaxes a bit and then boom. Domestic Kantoph moments.

But yeah, I feel like if Kanto is there the whole time, or just when he shows up, Toph is pretty calm and focused and is like "All right. Let's do this."

And then when they hold Lin for the first time, they cried and internally freaked out because she's so little and they don't wanna break her lol. Katara cries too, because she's so happy for her friends. She probably got emotional seeing how in love those two were, and it jsut makes her heart swoon.

Aang is like a bouncy, excited mess because how amazing! Another baby! He wants to take her to see Appa and take her flying and Kanto is like "NO." Protective Dad Kanto is now in the picture.

Zuko quietly wipes a few tears from his eyes (Hey, his 'baby sister' just had a baby...), but he is puddled when he gets to hold Lin, and he knows that he will be a pushover because she's absolutely adorable and he's always had a big "S" on his forehead.

Sokka (let's imagine him not jealous, because he deserves to be happy lol) jokes that she's so squishy, but is so happy for Toph and Kanto and Lin is adorable. He's excited to teach Lin how to throw a boomerang.

When Suki meets the baby, tons of coos and tickling of cheeks, she thinks Lin is just adorable.

And those are some of the thoughts being thunk about Lin's birth haha.

“Linny, I packed you a lunch, it’s in the ice box in our office. And Mama has a meeting late tonight so it’ll just be you and me on our walk home okay?”

Lin -_- : “Aye aye, Deputy Beifong.”

“That’s my baby girl!”

But secretly she loves it because she thinks her parents are cool and wants to learn from them. They’re also like, this badass duo that are unstoppable and they’re really good leaders together.

We talked a bit about how Toph and Kanto smoke a bit but it’s not a regular thing for them. Do you think they stop completely once they have Lin?

Lol I think we're talking about it in length now because I kind of dig the vibe... ;)

But yeah I think they're casual smokers, nothing too serious, and Katara hates it. She's ready to chew them out about it, but then Toph isn't feeling well and... ope! Incoming baby Beifong.

So they both totally go cold turkey for the nine months (Kanto gave it up too so Toph wouldn't throw a boulder at him feel left out), which surprisingly, isn't hard for them. And then when Lin is there, they just, never went back to it.

I bet they'll share a cig every now and again when Lin is older, but they're less inclined to smoke around her!
