Rufus Shinra had thrown a formal event to improve relations among his business partners, leaving the Turks on guard duty around the room. Tseng remained by his side - where his bodyguard and leader of the Turks should naturally be, Rude was stationed by the door - a big man like him could deter anyone from trying anything funny, Reno was stationed on the balcony - his keen sight watching for strange happenings, and Elena was stationed on the floor - mixing with people and ready to deal with anything at a moment's notice. Of course, not everyone sticks to plan and Elena joins Reno for a little... people-watching.

I found an old sketch from 3 or so years ago of my FFVII OC, Alice, at an airport. I think I was traveling for a conference at the time and thought it felt very professional, so naturally I needed my very professional OC to do very professional traveling things too.

Here’s a WIP of what I’ve turned that rough sketch into so far. I thought it would be a good project to pick up to practice environments and perspective a bit.

I drew this with the b&w filter on on my iPod without knowing what color palette I was using. The purpose of this excerise was to focus on value and lighting. The base of this painting was a sketch I did while experimenting with expressions and styles using Elena from Final Fantasy VII as a model.

If I post this WIP, maybe I’ll be inclined to finish it!

I’m not sure why, but about a year ago I was thinking about medieval/renaissance monarchies and how they related to the structures of power in Final Fantasy IV. So I looked up images of Queen Elizabeth I to get some ideas of how female monarchs were presented in paintings and I had the idea to draw Rosa in a similar fashion. Why did I choose the painting of Circe to model her pose off of? I’m not sure. But I think I was onto something with the symbolism of Rosa mimicking both Circe and her connections to Ancient Greek witchcraft and Queen Elizabeth I/ Christian monarchies.
