People say, well he died what he loved doing, and I don't like that expression. I just know that he lived what he loved doing.

“Born to Run” by Christopher McDougall was the book that propelled Micah True (aka “Caballo Blanco”) to fame and legend. It also happens to be a rollicking good adventure story, with a motley cast of characters and sweeping mountain and desert landscapes. I can’t wait to catch the full documentary some day. RIP Micah, and thanks for the beautiful inspiration.

Watch Run Free – The True Story of Caballo Blanco
American ultra running legend Micah True (Caballo Blanco, or the White Horse) lived and ran with the Tarahumara Indians in Northern Mexico. The Tarahumara (also known as the Rarámuri or the Running People) are some of the best long distance runners in the world. This award-winning feature-length documentary chronicles Micah's quest to promote and preserve Tarahumara running tradition by creating a 50-mile foot race known as the Copper Canyon Ultra Marathon, which was portrayed in Christopher McDougall’s best-selling book "Born to Run – A Hidden Tribe, Super Athletes and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen".
Now fans of the book, runners and non-runners alike can all share the beauty of Micah True's simple message in "Run Free - The True Story of Caballo Blanco".
Slow
Tumblr’s template theme content features a Confucius quote:
“It doesn’t matter how slowly you go -- so long as you do not stop.“
Then there is the USN Seal Hollywood-ish one:
“Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.”
Then there is Micah True from the book Born to Run:
“Think Easy, Light, Smooth, and Fast. You start with easy, because if that’s all you get, that’s not so bad. Then work on light. Make it effortless, like you don’t give a shit how high that hill is or how far you’ve got to go. When you’ve practice that for so long that you forget you’re practicing, you work on making it smoooooth. You won’t have to worry about the last one – you get those three, and you’ll be fast.”
Miyamoto Musashi writes:
“Even at a calm time, the mind is not calm; even at a moment of great speed, the mind is not at all fast. The mind must not be carried along by the body, nor the body by the mind.”

"Don't fight the trail," Caballo called back over his shoulder. "Take what it gives you. If you have a choice between one step or two between rocks, take three." Caballo has spent so many years navigating the trails, he's even nicknamed the stones beneath his feet: some are ayudantes, the helpers which let you spring forward with power; others are "tricksters," which look like ayudantes but roll treacherously at takeoff; and some are chingoncitos, little bastards just dying to lay you out.
"Lesson two," Caballo called. "Think Easy, Light, Smooth, and Fast. You start with easy, because if that's all you get, that's not so bad. Then work on light. Make it effortless, like you don't give a shit how high the hill is or how far you've got to go. When you've practiced that so long that you forget you're practicing, you work on making it smooooooth. You won't have to worry about the last one—you get those three, and you'll be fast."
