One thing intrigued me in this scene, namely that... no, you don't, Roger. Not yet, since your son will only be born in fifteen months, after your lover manages somehow to keep him in her womb long enough to save him from the massacre the Marines are operating among all the babies who could potentially be yours.
It seems like that in this continuity Ace was born before his father's death, perhaps to avoid having to deal with the complicated issue of Rouge's prolonged pregnancy. So Ace has already been born, which is probably why Roger speaks of a son, not of a child; since ultrasound apparently do not exist in the world of One Piece, he would have no way of knowing the gender of the baby otherwise.
In the animanga, on the other hand, he has no idea, which is why he chooses two names for his still unborn baby: Ace for a boy, Ann for a girl.
