why do I treat 98% of my uber drivers as therapists
My take away from Shane's Tanacon series:
1. Michael made promises he clearly couldn't keep and straight up lied about some things (like security and the free tickets). He was in it for the money not Tana or her fans.
2. Tana was too obsessed with revenge on Vidcon and was stupid for trying to do an event like that with only two months of planning. She should have cared more about having a solid event then sticking it to Vidcon. She's at fault for that.
3. Michael was clearly money hungry with no solid experience to agree to do this in two months with Tana. He's at fault for that.
4. I think Michael knew this would be a bit of a shit show hence the plans to make a documentary about Tanacon even before the event ever fucking happened... I just don't think he planned for it to go THIS bad...
5. Tana shouldn't have been out partying before and after this shit because it makes her look bad. I also believe Michael when he says Tana told him to get shit done last minute. It seems very like her to do that. Like she said, she has no experience with this.
6. The reason why I don't think either of them wanted to scam people is because 1. Michael signed a document with the ticket company saying any refunded tickets would come from his own pocket so... yikes. 2. Tana for what it's worth was really excited to her convention to work.
I think Michael was money hungry and knew this would go to shit but he didn't expect it to go this bad. He didn't care about Tana or the fans honestly. But now because it went this bad and he has the deal with repercussions of money, he cares. Tana really thought this would work. I'm not a huge fan of her but I think she really had faith in him to make this event a success. Granted she's an idiot for trying to do this in two months.
They are both at fault on different levels.
Oh look I made a meme
The entire third part was basically Tana shedding crocodile tears and screaming at Michael and not letting him speak. Shane’s an absolute angel and honestly Michael and Tana don’t deserve his kindness.
But there is one person who’s opinion I want to know about all this. One scrawny white boy, an alleged stalker, one of the only white people who can say the n-word in the right context and have it somehow work out in his favor no matter the backlash.
And that man
is Ian Carter
God I am so sorry for the tanacon spam but also I’m not cause there’s only like 20 people following me so idgaf lol
I’m not even in that fandom or whatever and I’m hardly active on tumblr anymore but like I have thoughts on Tanacon
Why the f is everyone defending Tana? Yeah, Michael seems kinda sketchy but Tana literally said “people like to be oppressed” they both basically said they want people to wait outside, from what I’ve seen, I feel like they were both fully aware of the fact that they were going over capacity.
And that freaking “important” network party? Don’t act like that was for real, she was literally drinking for fun, there is no way in hell she was trying to solve anything.
Yes, Michael probably srewed her but she is also an adult. She is older than I am and by no means am I saying I could run a convention, I’m just saying I know that you have to freaking double check stuff and that that hotel doesn’t look like it could hold 5,000 people. That’s literally a 30 sec google search?! Especially if people have already told her Michael is sketchy. Like? That’s not that hard, as a grown adult you should know that!
Seriously, not defending Michael in any way, I just haven’t really formed an opinion on him yet, cause it’s all hella confusing/contradicting info but I know for sure that Tana made a ton of mistakes and either Shane is too biased and protective of her or she’s also messing with shane (which i highkey think cause some of the stuff she told him in the vid sounded sketchy af)
Tanacon - what went wrong?
I just finished Shane Dawson’s documentary about Tanacon. If you don’t know what Tanacon was head to the YouTube channel of Shane Dawson and watch the documentary series.
When I heard about Tanacon I had a gut feeling that it was a classic disaster. Classic in that sense when people who don’t know how to run a convention organize one and make all the entry level mistakes. This was a perfect example of that. Luckily, no body died as Shane said.
Mistakes were made in every step on the way. From the contracts to the actual organizing. Event production is a really hard field to work. The win margins are slim compared to how much work a convention or an event takes. What I gathered from the series the owner of Good Times doesn’t actually know how to organize a convention. Tana knows even less. But still they’re are equally guilty.
WHAT WENT WRONG?
Don’t trust when something is said to you but the contract says something else. When things go wrong people will take out the signed contracts and what you have discussed gets lost in the air (if you don’t have witnesses).
You’re not responsible for other company’s losses. The ticket company clearly played the owner of Good Times. Usually the ticket price includes the sales commission that goes to the ticket company. When things go wrong the ticket company only holds that comission and transfers the rest of the money to the production company. But the contract was signed.
Planning, planning and once again planning. 6 months for a convention holding little over 1000 people is enough (if you know what you’re doing).
Overselling tickets is one of the biggest sins an event organizer can do. You should never sell more than the venue can hold. You’ll endanger your staff’s, performers’ and visitors’ safety.
WHAT SHOULD BE DONE?
Refund the tickets.
Pay back the travel expences of the fans.
Pay the bills.
Tana should take care of the fans and their refunds. After that move to a different talent agent / manager.
The owner of the Good Times should take care of the Mariott and other expenses of the convention. A lot of your reputation is saved with a proper apology and paying your bills.
This is a hard lesson for both of them. They did wrong. Luckily, you can always do better. Learn, pay your dues and don’t repeat your mistakes.
Okay but does anyone actually believe that the Marriott hotel could actually hold 5,000 people? I don’t think the hotel ever told them that 5,000 would be fine and 1,000 “just the number in the contract”. It’s in the fucking contract for a reason. So if it’s not in the contract, I don’t think they said it. I think Michael and Tana have agreed on telling everyone this to justify the 5,000 available tickets. Idk who scammed who about the number of free tickets etc but I know that Tana literally said people like standing outside and being “oppressed” and Michael agreed so idk about anything else but I think they were fully aware they were going over capacity and thus making it unsafe for fans (not even just talking about sunburns here, too many people in one place is never a good idea and if someone had actually thought there was a shooter or smth like those girls said in shane’s first video and everyone had panicked and tried to get outside or idk where, that could have been so freaking dangerous)
