Ghost Rider Extra - Danny Ketch

Daniel ‘Danny’ Ketch is the younger half-brother of the earlier Ghost Rider, Johnny Blaze.  His biological mother was Naomi Kale, a sorceress who wielded magic from the Tome of Zhered-Na.  Danny and his sister grew up unaware that they were adopted.  

When they were teenagers, Danny and his sister witnessed a battle between rival gangs.  Danny’s sister was caught in the crossfire and gravely wounded.  Desperate to save his sister’s life, Danny came across a gleaming motorcycle that seemed to call out to him.  Upon touching the cycle with his bloodied hand, Danny was instantly transformed into a new Ghost Rider, imbued with the powers of the Spirit of Vengeance.  Danny’s sister ultimately perished and he used his new powers to extract vengeance on those who were responsible.  

Not long thereafter, this new Ghost Rider was recruited into an iteration of The Fantastic Four that gathered together to thwart a plot by Skrull invaders.  Discovering that there was a new Ghost Rider, Johnny Blaze sought out Danny worried that he might be a manifestation of the spirit of Zarathos.  Johnny and Danny would come to discover they were half brothers and decedents of a man named Nobel Kale whose bloodline had been cursed with possession of the Spirits of Vengeance.  

Johnny and Danny would go on to join the Midnight Sons as part of an effort to put down the threat of the demonic being known as Lilith.  During his continued exploits, Danny came to realize that his actions were slowly being influenced by the sprit of Nobel Kale.  In time this possession became complete offering Kale full control over Danny;’s body.  

Following an exorcism conducted by Mary LaBow Danny was finally free of Nobel Kale; yet this also entitled his losing his powers as The Ghost Rider and matter that ultimately led to his falling into a deep depression.  

The villainous Mister Eleven took advantage of Danny depressed state and manipulated him to do evil deeds in exchange for a return of his powers.  Following battles with Johnny Blaze, Danny repented for his misdeeds by freeing his brother of the evil influence of the Spirit of Corruption.  

Having now possessed the new powers of the Spirit of Corruption, Danny has taken to calling himself Death Rider and aided in fending off the invasion of The King in Black.  

A younger version of Danny Ketch features in the movie Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, portrayed by actor Fergus Riordan.  The character first appeared in the pages of Ghost Rider Vol. 3 #1 (1990).
