Happy Monday! For the first time in months, I have nothing to do with myself except work out, do volunteer work and just be myself. I’m done with my LLB! And therefore, I can get back on track and focus on other things - like Fic Rec Monday! I realize that this 8th week of it, but it’s my 5th week participating, hence why it says five above. Anyway, midwestwind is a legend and if you haven’t read her fics, I feel sorry for you. She’s a fandom classic and deserves all the praise in the world. Hence why I’m recommending her.
Openheart | MC | Rated: T | Status: Complete
Summary: Once upon a time in Brooklyn, NY, there lived a community of fairy tale characters known as Storybrooke. Through the use of magic they have protected their secret community from the mundane world.Sheriff Emma Swan protects them from each other. Ro’s Notes: This is without a doubt one of my top five AUs in this fandom of all time. Hands down. There is not a single thing I don’t love about this fic. I’m shocked at how little traffic its gotten in comparison to her other fics. It’s A Wolf Among Us AU and it does not disappoint! I highly recommend dipping your toes in this beautiful story, especially because it’s more plot-driven than romance. If you haven’t realized it yet, I’m more about a good story than I am about my faves mushing faces. Ya feel?
The Meaning of a Tragedy | One Shot | Rated: T | Status: Complete
Summary: After the death of her partner-turned-boyfriend, Emma takes Mary Margaret's advice on finding a grief counseling group for Henry's sake. Whatever she's expecting, Killian Jones definitely wasn't it. Ro’s Notes: One of things I love about midwestwind is that she has an amazing handle on Emma and her complex trauma and emotions. This one I think does an amazing job of articulating Emma’s insecurities, grief and walls despite being an AU. The emotional human element is what I love about her work, and this one is an absolute highlight of that.
Stardust in Your Skin | One Shot | Rated: T | Status: Complete
Summary: Emma Swan may believe in magic and curses and fairy tales but she absolutely does not believe in soulmates. Ro’s Notes: I’m going to lay this out there for you. I don’t like Soul Mates AUs. I don’t. I don’t like the very concept of soulmates at all. Mainly because it seems to put a capacity on the amount of love you’re capable of giving a person while also taking the choice out of it. It’s just not my jam. HOWEVER, all of those things are addressed in this very fic. This is how you fucking write a Soul Mates AU and get a cynic like me interested in it. This is a fandom classic, but it’s a classic for a reason and if you haven’t read it, you should.
