Hugs with genshin men: Who hugs who more often, how often, and what is the most common/or their favourite hug.
Featuring almost all of the current characters.
Assuming you guys are together romantically and you guys are standing. I have a different post about cuddling but this is just hugs. I was honestly unsure with most characters for this one so forgive me if I mischaraterized them and tell me what you think is better.
My reference for each hug if you need a visual is at the bottom.
One hand on waist/back hug.
Gaming: hugs you all the time. He hugs you more often than you hug him. His love language is physical touch so he’s always all over you. He will put one hand on your waist while hugging you because two hands are too tight and he wants enough distance to see your mouth moving while you talk. You’d position your hands to hold each bicep of his.
Heizou: Also one handed hug but he’s facing you a little less. He’s more diagonal to you when he does it instead of right in front. He can observe you a little more. He will squeeze your waist just to fluster you. His other hand would be on his chin as if he’s pondering your entire existence. I think you initiate the longer hugs while he initiates the shorter hugs. When he hugs you it’s more or less just to fluster you which is why he won’t do it for long since you’ll grow used to it and he loves watching you look a little desperate when he lets go. If he wants a more intimate, longer hug he may ask you to hug him then he will hold your waist with one hand. It doesn’t matter where you put your hands. The more embarrassed you look the better.
Mika: a little unsure of where would be appropriate so when you lean in he puts one hand on your waist and hesitates before putting the other on your back. You hug him more often. He won’t hug you too often because he’s not sure how to ask and is more comfortable showing his affection through acts of service. It’s not that he dislikes hugging it’s more that it confuses him. Hugs are usually short but if they last more than 5 seconds he will try to move his hands a little, finding it awkward if he just stays still. He might switch hand positions so the other is now on your back and the second on your waist. If he feels like you want a hug he will ask you before hugging.
Razor: a little awkward with it. He sees his wolf pack cuddling but they don’t have hands so they don’t hug. He prefers cuddling over standing while hugging. Might sniff your hair a bit. With him I think it’s a mix between this hug and you hugging him from behind while trying to catch him by surprise. I put him in this category because I think this hug last a little longer.
Xiao: you’ll go into a neck hug and he will reciprocate with this. The hug is short and sweet. He’s scared that if he feels you too much his karma will rub off on you. It’s only in very emotional moments when he will hug you in any other way. You definitely hug him more often. If he wants a hug he will just look at you. He won’t ask. He wouldn’t know how. He wouldn’t be able to let himself ask. If you just hug him he won’t push away. You’ll know the difference between you randomly hugging him and him secretly hoping you’d hug him by his grip. If he was hoping you would his grip would be much firmer. So firm it makes your shirt wrinkle just a bit. It will last a little longer depending on how much he has been missing you. Most of the time it won’t last much longer. Maybe an extra 3 second, but if you’re lucky you might find yourself being held for much much longer. If you ever pull away he won’t lean back in. He might even say goodbye and teleport away. He fears that the longer he finds himself with you after the hug the more you will suffer.
Two handed back/waist hug
Alhaitham: hugs your waist while rubbing his hands up and down. If you’re upset then he will rub your back while he hugs you. Most of the time you will swing your arms around his neck and in turn he will grab your waist. If your on the taller side there would be a small gap between you so he can look in your eyes. If you’re on the shorter side you’ll be a bit closer with your chin on his chest looking up to see him. This is the most common position but not his favourite. His favourite is coming from behind you and hugging you after a long day while resting his chin on your shoulder. If you ever need to cry on him he won’t stop you from doing so. He will definitely let you cry while hugging him. He will always accept hugs. I think he will match your energy when it comes to hugging. If you’re someone who barely hugs their partner he won’t hug you too often. If you’re someone who is always hugging their partner he might not hug you as much as you hug him but he will often invite you to hug him by opening his arms and stuff.
Baizhu: waist if you’re the hugging type, back if you aren’t. If you hug him a lot then the most common is your waist just because it’s easier. If you’re not the hugging type then hugs happen less often making the hugs more needy. One arm would be over your shoulder and the other would be other your other arms(bear hug in picture). It’d be tight hugs. The time is a normal amount for lovers so not too long or too short. The frequency of how much he hugs you is the opposite of how much you hug him. If you hug him a lot he will hug you little. If you barely hug him he will hug you a lot more.
Bennett: his favourite but hugs aren’t too common because of his bad luck. You hug him more often because bad things happen whenever he tries. In Natlan though you guys hug a lot. He loves hugging you. He won’t ever refuse a hug.
Cyno: almost always around your waist. Even before you got together. If he knew he liked you then it was around the waist but he doesn’t hug any other girl how he hugs you. If you’re shorter than him he will press his forehead against yours as you hug. If you’re a lot taller than him then his hands would be a little bit higher up around the center of your back so that you feel a little bit more balanced. If you’re not a hugger then hugs will be very rare. He won’t hug you too often. If you are a hugger then he won’t refuse but he won’t initiate hugs too often unless you specifically ask him to.
Diluc: it doesn’t matter how big you are he will have his arms around your waist. Your arms will be around his neck. It might even be a little awkward if they aren’t. If you’re a super hugger he will be a super hugger in private. He will hug you in public but a little less as to have courtesy for those around him. If you’re not a hugger he will initiate most hugs. You will probably hug him at least once a day. He’d prefer if you hugged him before and after work but at the very least when he comes back.
Neuvillette: basically the same as Diluc when it comes to position except your hands would be on his chest not around his neck. In public he’s not too much of a hugger and would rather hold your hand. In private he will be very inviting if you wish to hug him. If you don’t initiate often he might assume you’re not into that type of thing. A melusine would tell him to hug you because human lovers hug each other so one day he’d ask to hug you. If it doesn’t go well he won’t bother with it again but if it does every few weeks he’d ask if your give him the pleasure of holding you. Hugs are probably longer and usually very romantic.
Scaramouche/Wanderer: will act like hugs are a drag but responds well to them. You hug him more often and if you never hug him he will act like it doesn’t bother him though once in a while he will look at other couples hugging and scoff about PDA with a small hint of jealousy. If you hug him a lot then randomly stop you’ll notice a visible change in his demeanour. Hugs started with his hands barely touching you to his hands being a firm presence on you as he gets more used to it. Your hand position doesn’t matter. He will complain about you being clingy either way.
Wriothesley: a very manly man so all his hugs are with him being more in control. You will learn to hug him tightly since he doesn’t do loose hugs. Will hug you very often so you either hug him as much as he hugs you or less than he hugs you. There is no hugging him more. Hug time ranges and depends on how long you let him hug you. If you reject him too much he will joke about you being cruel.
Xinqiu: it’s how he hugs all women. It’s how his dad hugged his mom so he unconsciously does the same. Might kiss your forehead if he is at a height where he can do so. He hugs you a medium amount of times so who hugs more depends on you. If you’re not a hugger then hugs are semi often with them being about once every one to two weeks.
Zhongli: a little old school so he has always been the type to hold women that way. Most of the time to other people he isn’t much of a hugger but with you it’s different. You can hug him as often or as little as you want. He won’t mind either way.
Bear hug (lock hug in picture)
Itto: He is lifting you off the ground with his hug while squeezing the life out of you. Most of the time you can’t move your arms but sometimes your arms are free and you’ll try to lightly push him away and he will ignore you while laughing. He will hug you more often and he will hug you very often. If you ever made the mistake of telling him you like hugs or love physical touch then you won’t be able to live another peaceful day ever again. If he catches you hugging someone else he might feel a little jealous. Later on he will hug you extra tightly while complaining.
Varka: whenever he’s excited he’ll hug the life out of you and lean back so that he is lifting you off the ground. You have to remind him that you can’t breathe. His favourite is the waist hug but this ends up being the most common. He hugs you more. If he’s ever flat out drunk which is rare since he can hold his liquor he will hug your leg while talking about how gorgeous you are. If you’re not the hugger type he will sometimes forget about your aversion and hug you anyway before letting go as if someone shocked him. Hugs happen whenever he is around.

Albedo: this hug feels the most physically close to you. He enjoys hugs but he won’t freak out if you don’t hug often. You will most likely hug him more often unless you’re shy. If he knows you’re shy and want to hug him but have trouble asking he will initiate hugs more often. In his head sometimes he might think about what materials your perfume is made up of as he hugs you. If you’ve been together for long there is a chance he made it for you.
Freminet: is a bit awkward with hugs but he’s been hugged by Lyney enough to at least know how. He won’t ever completely relax but he slowly gets less awkward the more often you guys hug. You initiate all your hugs. If you’re a huge hugger he might get overwhelmed. He will prefer if you ask first. If you do ask then your hugs will last a bit longer. If you don’t ask he might break away from the hug.
Gorou: gets flustered when you hug him. If you hug him by surprise he will assume something is wrong and will try to comfort you. He really likes being hugged by you. If you hug him in front of his soldiers he won’t know what to do. He doesn’t want to push you away but he has to keep his dignity intact in front of them. If you hug him a lot he will hug you a lot. If you don’t he will ask you if he can hug you and will hug you often.
Kaveh: hugs are tight but not too long. They’re more casual if anything. If you’re big on hugging you hug him more. If you’re not big on it he adapts. He will touch you in other ways.
Lyney: hugs you tightly. Whenever he tries to hug Lynette she’s colder with it than him and might tease him a little. He’s happy he can hug you and fully takes advantage over it. He hugs you in all different ways but he loves it the most when you guys are equally in each others arms. He hugs you more often.
Tighnari: he holds you as tightly as you hold him. Hugs you as often as you hug him. If you never hug him it’s fine. If you do hug him a lot it took a little getting used to but he’s fine with it.
Venti: the most common because it’s all he can muster when he’s drunk. He will latch onto you. Hugs you a lot when drunk. He hugs your side more when he’s not. Hugs happen the most when you are taking him home.
Neck hug
Durin: loves hugging you. Hugs you all the time. He loves how close your faces get when you hug. He doesn’t really have anyone else who lets him hug them as often as you do so hugs happen 20 times a day. Sometimes he will even hug you with his wings as well.
Side hug
Kinich: doesn’t mind hugging both in private and public but this hug is the most common when he initiates. He walks around Natlan with his hand on your waist. His hugs are more silent if he ever gives you a full on hug. He initiates every once in a while but wouldn’t stop you if you initiated it more. When he does give you a full hug it’s usually one hand on your back or waist with the other holding your head.
Back hug
Childe/Ajax: he loves hugging you from behind and pulling you into his arms. The range it lasts would depend on where you are. Hugs you more often and loves when you hug him back. He also does one handed hug, waist hug, and bear hug depending on his girl’s build and height. Most common is waist but his favourite is when he hugs you from behind.
Couldn’t group
Chongyun: he tries to avoid hugging you for long because it makes his heart speed up thus making it hard to control his yang energy. He will hug you if you ask and probably around your waist. If you’re big on hugging he doesn’t want to disappoint you but you will notice his breathing changes a little as he tries hard to suppress his yang energy. If you ever catch him when his yang energy is out of control he’s a big hugger and he will hold you tightly. He will hug you differently (bear hug in picture). Usually it’s for a short moment before he controls himself but sometimes it lasts much longer. Under normal circumstances he will tell you he feels a bit uncomfortable with hugs but deep down he really loves it.
Flins: the type of hugs that are the most common depends on you. It doesn’t matter how he hugs you he will just hug you the way you want to be hugged. He will be a little disappointed if you aren’t someone who likes hugs and will take great joy if you are. Sometimes he just likes when you hug him in his lantern form. If you’re a hugger, hugs are very very common. If you’re not he will try to convince you to let them be. If you hug him often he will eventually grow accustomed to them. If you ever pull a prank where you don’t hug him he will assume something is wrong.
Thoma: I couldn’t choose between a one hand waist hug and a bear hug. The bear hug felt too platonic but the waist hug felt like it would be more once in a while. His hugs are both loose and tight. Tight enough to feel your body heat. Loose enough for you to breathe. He hugs you more. He also really likes when you hug him from behind. It’s his favourite.
