The Milamo is a fearsome critter from the folklore of North American lumberjacks. It is said to resemble a gigantic crane. Its diet consists of large earthworms, which it pulls up from the ground, and snakes the size of car tyres.
A popular story tells of how the Milamo tried to pluck a particularly stubborn worm from its hole. The worm clung on, pulled taut like an elastic band until it flew out and hit the bird in the eye. With the bird in pain, the worm managed to escape.
