I said this in the tags of another post, but I’m deeply grateful that I cut my fandom teeth on RWBY because (in addition to many better or at least more positive reasons) its insane hatedom it made me largely immune to getting swept up in bullshit bad-faith interpretations (often fueled by internalized prejudice) in any other fandom.

(I say largely because obviously no one is completely immune — internalized prejudice is so insidious and sinister that it can creep into your mind very easily. But the FNDM + a film and media studies minor has made me better at checking this sort of bias than many, I feel confident in saying that much.)

I watched people go rabid trying to defend terrorism and fascism and genocide because an attractive powerful white man is the one committing the terrible deed, and those same people bent over backwards to find an excuse to blame first any woman in that man’s sphere in-universe. Failing that, they’d blame the writers. Anything but admit that the cool charming capable guy those “fans” were smitten with was canonically a bad fucking person.

And as such, I have learned to see it for what it is when audiences jump to see the best in some characters and the worst in others. When the same action is charming and heroic or violent and cruel depending on who does it. When writers prioritize certain characters’ arcs over others, and when that reflects bias versus narrative priorities. And that is a very good skill to have.

It does often have the side-effect of making you feel like Alice in Wonderland — the lone sane person with good takes, surrounded by incels and madmen in the main tag — but hey! You can’t win ‘em all.

I really hope that Viz lets a RWBY fighting game happen, from what I remember of a QnA kerry shawcross said to try to show support for one to viz to get it to happen, plus arc system works (the people who made games like guilty gear and blazblue, which had a crossover game including RWBY) said theyd be down to do a RWBY fighting game im fairly sure, just needs the money to get it done. I would genuinely KILL for an official arcsys RWBY fighting game man

As a huge gamer myself who grew up loving Tekken, I'd be sooo down for it!! It would be sick to be able to kick Adam's ass with both Blake & Yang. 🥷🏼🦾

But also, an open world game would be something I'd pay whatever money to have (something big like RDR2, or the Jedi series, Assassin's Creed, etc). 😍 Just imagine getting to explore Remnant with the team, unlocking new outfits, upgrading weapons, spending skill points for semblance evolving...UGH, now I desperately NEED THAT!! 🥲🎮
