SFX: シュッ [Fabric rustling.] エス　「！」 ES: ! ムウ　「ムウ、関係ない」 MUU: MUU… isn’t involved in his death… エス　「ハ……ハルカは……お前は赦さなければ死ぬと言った。それでも関係ないというのか」 ES: Ah… HARUKA… said that if you didn’t forgive him, he would die. Even with that, you think it has nothing to do with you? ムウ　「ムウを赦さなきゃ死ぬって言ったんでしょ？それでもムウを赦さなかったのは看守さんでしょ？」 MUU: He said he’d die if MUU wasn’t forgiven, no? They wouldn’t even say what was wrong with MUU. HARUKA-kun was like that too. MUU was just being kind because he’s a friend, but then- things got weird. ムウ　「ただ……ただ仲良くしたかっただけなのに」 MUU: Muu just… Muu just wanted to be friends. エス　「ただ、仲良く」 ES: Just… friends. ムウ　「うん。優しくしたら喜んでくれるから、何かあげたら喜んでくれるし」 MUU: Mhm. If you were nice, they’ll be happy, and if I gave them things, they’ll smile. エス　「ハルカが、お前に何を求めていたかわかっていたか。わかっていたか」 ES: Did you… understand what HARUKA wanted from you? This got long. It’s a second person pov of what I think it’s like to be muu. It was supposed to be an analysis but ce lavie or whatever. Titling it a character study instead. Main tagging because I’ve lost all sense of shame.

Ok, so. Imagine, if you will, you're 16 again. You don't have a real support network, just people who'll stick around as long as you do things "right". That "right" thing changes every other day, and you're desperate to be liked. No matter what. You'll do anything. Even if it's awful. Even if you don't particularly agree with what you're doing. But all you know is that you cannot be at the bottom of the pack, you have to be the apex predator. The second you fall, crack, or fumble in any way, you'll be eaten up; devoured by the pack as the weakest link.

Imagine that scenario, and then to top it off, you're suicidal. Not for any "reason" in particular, your brain is just wired that way. Without the attention [even if it's fake] of your friends [even if they're fake] you won't survive [even if the life you live is already fake]. And then, and then, you slip. Someone you thought highly of is disgusted with you. Maybe it's the person you've been holding on for; maybe it's someone you don't know, but they were who you wanted to be — either way, it crushes you. Crushes you so completely and utterly that you just.. can't handle it. All the pressure of your complex lie of a life comes crumbling down on your neck, and your mind snaps.

It's not a clean break, it's messy and everyone knows it. You feel their eyes on you [fake like everything like you like—] and you run. As fast as you can, like you can outrun your own cowardice, your own lies. Along the way you grab the closest sharp thing you can find, because no matter what you can't see any other way out of this. You're sobbing, hyperventilating, and as you run clutching the thing that will end this one way or another [you lost a shoe on the way but you can't remember how] and you spot Her. She did this to you. She's the reason everything broke. It's not your fault. You scream at Her, but She doesn't stop. You grab Her sleeve. That stops Her, finally. You tell Her exactly what happened, why it's Her fault not yours. She sneers. She's still disgusted. How dare She. How dare She? You bared your soul to her, and She shrugs you off. You reach out to grab Her again, but—

You're still holding the box cutter. What was meant to be your end turns out to be Her end, instead. This wasn't supposed to happen. What was supposed to happen? You don't know. You don't know. You don't know. You laugh and fall to your knees. What else can you do?

Then MILGRAM happens. No-one here knows you. They don't know you broke like that. They're all worse than you. You can be on top again. You get "voted" [by who? the warden? they're younger than you..?] innocent. Your lie, your intricate web of personas is back to being intact. Someone [this odd guy.. he's kinda sweet though] depends on you. It's great. You never want to leave this moment.

And then, again, like clockwork, like fate, it all falls apart. Haruka, that sweet, seemingly naive guy threatens to kill himself for you. You don't take it seriously. Why would you? You'll be innocent again anyway, it'll all be fine, but it isn't. He's dead. It's [not] your fault. He did it to himself. It was his choice. You were friends. Friends support each other. You supported his choice. It can't be your fault. But it really, really feels like it is. Your web has collapsed again. And, and..! You've been voted guilty by this, this child? You're restrained painfully, there's voices [ones that weren't there before] that tell you that your whole life was wrong. That you were never right. Not even before everything. You're a monster. A cruel, despicable thing that can only hurt. It's your fault. The voices don't stop. It's your fault. Another important person — someone who was better than you in every conceivable way — is dead. It's your fault.

And then you see Her. You're in pain. Restrained like some kind of monster, like a feral animal. And She's watching you with that blank, unnerving stare. And you can tell. You know what She's thinking. It's all your fault.
