im also really pleased that you said “genuine” and “informative” because information is a big goal for me, here. i’m responding a lot to the way that aromantic community on social media, in my experience, tends to answer confusion with community-building and not with, like, information. like, i’ve seen a lot of (especially young) people questioning their identities, talking about how they don’t understand romance, they don’t understand their feelings, they don’t understand what expectations people are going to come at them with or what they can expect from other people, they don’t understand what the possibilities are for their relationships, and they get met a lot with “you could totally be aromantic!” which is nice because it’s welcoming, it’s friendly, it’s positive. but for most questions, it’s not an actual answer. and i think it’s valuable for people - especially, crucially, people who are questioning, to like. know... information. to have an accurate understanding of the diversity of human experience, and of the social constructs that surround them.
as for genuine (and thoughtful, and measured) i like. really want to talk about aromanticism, and about aromantic issues, in ways that are like. grounded in social theory, informed by the realities of the world, addressing collective struggles, and that take seriously the task of thinking through the social phenomenon of romance and of alienation from that as an individual experience and as a social phenomenon. which is, you know, a lot of words, but like, what i really want is to take the social experience of this construct called “romance” seriously, and think about it seriously, and talk about it with sincere intellectual engagement. so im glad that comes across, and i hope it will continue to come across in the future <3
