Happy Nameday @trysta-rider
Mimble is blowing you all the kisses - seriously they're going all over the place. Hopefully they all find their way to you in the end!
Happy (Belated) Nameday @scrollsfromarebornrealm!
I went for a Fairytale AU - having been suitably inspired by the fantastic sketch by @sayonaramidnight here.
It was quite tricky to sort out an outfit for Humble's scene at the Palace Ball - initially I went for an Ishgardian vibe, complete with thighboots, which looked very nice, but then I realised that he'd need to lose a slipper when running out at mightnight and it's really quite hard to accidentally lose a thighboot. So he ended up with a more Corvosian look, which will hopefully be enough to catch the eye of a certain Miqo'te Prince...
They also aren't glass slippers, partly because that's quite hard to achieve in vanilla gpose and partly because, at over 700lbs, Humble would be risking a nasty injury tottering about on glass shoes!
So happy belated nameday @scrollsfromarebornrealm and thank you for the inspiration to @sayonaramidnight.
What is your general favourite thing about the character? What is your least favourite? (for both mimble and humble if no one's asked yet)
For Mimble I think that I hit on quite a distinctive look for him that is still very obviously White Mage, but less druidic priest and more gentleman healer.
For Humble I think it's that he is quite fun to write about, since he's a juxaposition (not used that word since 6th Form!) of strength and power with diffidence and shyness.
For least favourite things... they both can be tricky to write without really concentrating on getting the balance right.
Mimble has to be whimsical and irreverent, but without being so silly that he stops making sense in the setting - having seen this excellent post (reblogged by the equally excellent @zylphiacrowley), it was a good reminder about how important it is to resist the urge to be ironic and self-referential out of a fear of sincerity.
For Humble it's having a distinctive accent and voice that needs to be kept consistent - if an "h" is dropped on a word in one sentence, then it needs to be dropped in all of them, unless there's a good reason it wouldn't be. This turns out to be harder than I'd envisaged.
And, although it's nothing to do with their characterisations, it's not much fun to have OCs from races that are frequently disliked, denigrated or dismissed as less worthy by a lot of other players. But I'm buggered if I'm going to let that stop me.
Get Well Soon @diggingforkuponuts
People say that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Those people are wrong - it's actually comically oversized baked treats.
Mimble has brought you some, but he might need some helping carrying all of them...
Happy Nameday @eidingate!
What is the origin of their personality? And let's be honest - how much of it is projecting?
I think both my OCs developed their own distinct personalities over time, but they do also both reflect various aspects of my personality and appearance - for better or for worse. Hopefully not too much, as they are supposed to be very much their own characters, but if I had to examine them more closely...
Mimble probably reflects my silliness, my whimsicality and my love of words and badinage - but also my occasional(?) tendency towards being arch, facetious and something of a smartarse.
He definitely gets my more chaotic and irresponsible traits, but also my areas of strength, like my confidence in performing and speaking in public and my quick thinking in a crisis.
He is also imbued with a lot of my more easygoing personality traits and my ability to get along with most people - but he also has my tendency towards self-indulgence and my habitual idleness and disinclination towards exertion and labour.
He is much more of a gentleman than I am - and infinitely better dressed. Plus I am considerably larger than Mimble (who is just under 3 feet tall) and not nearly as cute. But I do know what it is to feel very small and to have others frequently underestimate me, so maybe he functions as something of a reaction against that.
He's also definitely a power fantasy as far as bringing people together, breaking down barriers and spreading joy is concerned. I do my best, but sadly real life offers far fewer victories in that regard.
1. Heatwave.
It's too hot...
In truth, the Rak'tika Greatwood only ever seemed to vary between warm and hot, and was always stiflingly humid.
Consequntly, Mimble was starting to somewhat regret offering to assist the joint archaeological expedition between The Stewards of Note and the scholars of The Cabinet of Curiousity.
He'd already dodged a giant boulder, fought off a swarm of venomous insects and gingerly negotiated his way around a pit of quicksand. And - thus far - there was no sign that the ancients had applied their arcane wisdom to the matter of keeping drinks cold, which Mimble felt was rather remiss of them under the circumstances...
