Headcanon: Mina Liao enjoyed these really high-end, expensive nice taiwanese oolong full-leaf teas. Like that was her go-to expensive beverage- they're delicate leaves, you're supposed to brew a lot of them at once, with lower temperature water, for a VERY short amount of time per batch, and then you resteep them and resteep them, savoring the subtle changes in flavor per batch. They have a very mild but complex flavor, ranging from sweet to nutty to floral, not from any flavorings but purely due to the craft of these leaves from specialty tea growers. Like this is NICE tea. Echo has had the intricate brewing instructions memorized since day 1- it was used to test her cognitive abilities.
One time in old Overwatch, Emre helped Mina's division and as thanks, she gifted him a few ounces of her favorite, precious tea leaves. And he comes back the next week going "hey, it was great! Lovely bitter flavor."
And Mina blinks. "Bitter?"
"Yeah, I know you told me to only steep them for a little, but they were good with just my normal steeping time!"
"How long did you steep them for?"
"Oh, only ten minutes. And I forgot to turn down the stove, so the water was boiling. But that's fine, right? Tea is tea."
And the Oslo Watchpoint gets to witness Mina Liao- mother of Aurora, famously level-headed and understanding -chasing someone across the Watchpoint, ranting, fuming, wielding a rolled-up newspaper as a weapon.
And the person being chased? Emre Sarioğlu, member of the Strike Team who's infamous across all of Overwatch for being the most self-sacrificially nicest man alive.
Jack Morrison cannot believe his goddamned eyes when the write-up hits his desk. He calls Ana on the spot and reads the report to her. They laugh their asses off and dismiss all disciplinary charges.
Every time Emre visited Oslo from thereon out, he got at least one comment about "gonna brew it right this time?" from one smartass or another who witnessed the incident.
---
The incident is even recounted at Mina Liao's funeral. Playfully, but awkwardly, as everyone wonders why Emre didn't show for the funeral of such a close colleague.
Emre doesn't learn of her death until three years later. His first thought is of how he never got to try her tea the 'right' way. He allows himself a little laughter, if only to stave off the thought that he might have had something to do with the bombing that caused her death.
some more young sigma cause why not
Reyes: You can't tell anyone outside of Balckwatch that we hired Dr. O'Deorain, not Ana, not Angela, no one.
Cassidy: Sir, I won't tell a soul
*Later*
Cassidy: Mina, Mina, Mina- I need to tell you a secret!
cover a fic that i am...very slowly planning and writing.
i can't bear to think about the heartbreak cassidy experiences every moment he spends with echo. he should be happy that echo's still learning and improving like liao wished for her, and he is, but there's a grief that only manifests itself whenever he comes face to face with her. as the most advanced ai learning model ever made, she imprinted almost all of liao's personality traits, mannerisms and intelligence.
imagine the horror he feels deep inside knowing he's talking to fragments of his friend who died right in his arms. and even if he's immensely proud that echo is coming into her own and knows that liao would be thrilled that she's come this far, i think there would be a small, scared feeling in the back of his mind that this growth means he's losing whatever's left of mina.
i wonder if he knows how much he contributed to the project, if he knows how much the laughter he brought out of echo meant to her development and to liao herself. i wonder if he knows there's fragments of himself in echo too, that he was the one that planted the seed of her own personhood. it all makes me want to throw up
Man I really want to hear Freja's interaction with Cassidy!!!!! Her interaction with Mercy,Solider, and Ram were very intense...Yet I want to here her place a shit TON of blame onto Cassidy.
Cassidy better not take any shit from her either! Cause this man will be throwing hands at her plus the fact he has a bounty I want him to be EXTRA sassy and spicy with her since NO ONE has caught him!
IF FREJA BRING'S UP MINA I WOULD BE DEAD!
~~~~~~
Freja: You know all of this is your fault... Cassidy: Oh Really how, is it because of Blackwatch that Reyes shot Antonio out the window. Freja: No...Because of Mina, should have told Reyes what SHE was doing but knowing you...I'm not even surprised. Cassidy: *in a hostile tone* Be glad there no bullet between your eyes Freja...BE very glad....
~~~~~~~
Like imagine that! Would it be this?
No not really but the angst would hit Cassidy really REALLY hard...This actually hurt me to write this ngl
But Mina being mentioned/brought up to Cassidy would hurt him so badly!!!
