Yessiree. I'm not just saying it for bingo points, this issue matters to me a lot. My fam is Irish the whole way down on my dad's side, from new waterford lol. The Minceir/Mincéirí (Travellers) are hugely discriminated against, legally as well in Ireland if you scroll down to here in the wiki article now I'm not saying wikipedia is a fantastic source and I am sure the whole article is full of gibberish about the travellers that is offensive and stupid, just like how they did to us Jews wrt Zionism etc, well-known that indigenous ppls get the shit can but it is actually a legal thing, which is legal apartheid

Irish Traveller =/= Irish tourists. That was their first bit of ignorance.

Travellers/Mincéir/Pavee are an indigenous ethnic group as recognised by the UN, the Irish government, and even the fecking UK government. When this was explained to them, the USians switched to victim blaming them and saying it wasn’t racism but the result of Travellers not respecting the property rights of settled people 🤔 and that discrimination against ethnic minority groups isn’t racism 🤔

Mincéir face more discrimination than any other ethnic group in Ireland. It’s frequently referred to as “The last acceptable form of racism” and a presidential candidate in our last election gained 36% of the vote based on literally nothing but his anti-Traveller rhetoric.

Irish people of other ethnic minority groups have flooded to her defence...coz they fecking live here!!!

hi i'm a settled irishperson & am finally sorta waking up to anti-traveller racism bc of my college course (where "why the moon travels" by oein debhardúin was required reading). i was wondering if u knew of any resources where i could learn more that u were willing to take the time to share? i intend to go looking properly myself anyway but it'd be nice to have some starting points as well

as for resources to learn more about minceir / irish travellers & our culture as well as racism we undergo; your first starting points are always going to be pavee point & the irish traveller movement websites. they'll provide a good foundation to start from to then leap off into other areas, & a lot of their information is incredibly digestible & easy to comprehend (i have worked with the team behind it before.)
