One of the criticisms I've seen a lot is that Rook is too nice, but after playing this game a lot I'm actually enamoured with how Veilguard rewards you for choosing to be kind
This has been going on my mind with a current playthrough I'm doing where I'm choosing a lot of options I normally wouldn't.
The game illustrates this beautifully with one of the first choices you make mayor Julius. This is a person who caused so much harm, and leaving him there would be fair. But that's the option that causes the most harm as he goes to become a darkspawn and goes on a rampage.
The best objective ending is sending him with the Grey Wardens, which not everyone can do, but I did with my main Rook. And he goes to save a lot of people and atone for his crimes.
I can think of more examples, but just... I love when the narrative about the power of being kind. Choosing to be even when it's hard, even maybe when the other person might not deserve it. People can improve if you give them the chance, it's so hopeful and I don't think I've ever felt so rewarded for choosing kindness at every turn
God I love Rook
